Big sheds reward proper planning and punish shortcuts. A workshop-size building weighs more, carries more wind load, needs a better foundation and takes longer to build — and mistakes made early, on the base or the frame, are expensive to unwind once the roof is on. That's why we treat large shed installation as a quoted project with a survey first.

Why large installations need a survey

Size changes everything. A large building needs a base designed for its footprint and load, not just any flat patch; access routes need checking for panel lengths, timber sections and getting materials to the site; overhead obstructions, slopes and tight corners all matter. Ground conditions decide whether the existing base is adequate or needs correcting, and where digging is involved we locate underground services carefully and use detectors where appropriate — though no scan guarantees what's below, so we'd ask you to check any utility plans you have. Planning or permitted-development questions about a large garden building are your responsibility as the customer; we don't promise compliance status, and we'd encourage you to check with your council before delivery if you're unsure.

The survey and the quote

On the survey we look at access, ground, base, the kit and its delivery arrangements, and how the build will be staged. Then we quote the full project: what's included, what materials are needed, how many working days are realistic and what each stage involves. The first working day is planned as a substantial one — typically around eight hours of hands-on build time — but a large building is rarely finished in a day, so multi-day work is staged, and each stage is quoted and approved before it proceeds. Any parts or materials are quoted separately from labour.

How we build

The base is checked and corrected first, because everything above it inherits its errors. The floor is assembled dead level, the frame squared and braced, panels fixed per the manufacturer's specification, and the roof built and covered with the covering properly secured and finished at edges and trims. Doors and windows are hung, aligned and checked, hardware is fitted as specified, and finishing — seals, trims, felt edges — is done in dry conditions. Packaging and offcut disposal is agreed with you in advance. If we find problems mid-build — a base that's moved, a kit with missing parts, ground that's softer than the survey suggested — we stop and discuss rather than improvise.

Weather and honest limits

External construction is weather-dependent: roof coverings and sealing need dry conditions, and high winds stop roof work entirely, so we schedule sensibly and tell you plainly if weather must delay a stage. We don't guarantee against future settlement or weathering, and we can't promise the manufacturer's kit is complete or defect-free — we flag anything we find rather than build over it. What we do promise is an honest quote, a build done to specification and a conversation, not a surprise, whenever something changes.

Delivery coordination is part of what we plan at the survey. Large shed kits arrive on pallets and need somewhere dry, flat and accessible to sit between delivery and build — and it's worth confirming with the supplier that the delivery vehicle can reach your property, because a kit dropped at the kerb adds a lot of carrying. We'll talk through the practicalities at the survey so build day runs to plan.

Booking your project

Call or book through the website with the building's size and manufacturer, the base type and condition, your access situation and when the kit is being delivered. We'll arrange a survey, quote the project and agree a start date. You'll pay a booking fee when you book, labour is charged hourly at a rate that depends on how soon you need the visit, and the full project cost is quoted and approved before work starts, with parts quoted separately.

How the price works

We charge a booking fee to hold your slot, then an hourly rate for the work itself. The fee changes with how soon you need us; the hourly rate changes with the slot you choose. You approve the price before we start, so there is no surprise on the invoice.

1

Book the slot

Choose the window that suits you and pay the booking fee. That holds your place in the diary.

2

We diagnose on site

The engineer confirms the cause and tells you what the job involves and how long it should take.

3

You approve, we work

Nothing goes ahead until you agree the price. Labour is then charged per hour at your slot rate.

A large shed — a workshop, a substantial garden building, anything with a serious footprint — is a project, not an afternoon's assembly. Site access, base condition, kit size and weather all shape the job, which is why we survey before quoting. The first working day is planned generously, and every stage of the build is costed and approved before it starts.

What our customers say about our outdoor & exterior service

4.6 out of 5 from 10 reviews

Sorted the same day

Rang in the morning and they got to us in Wolverhampton by early afternoon. Very clear about what needed doing, what it would cost and what could wait. No pressure to add extras. Exactly the sort of tradesperson you want.

Job: Uneven Shed Base

Turned up when they said

Turned up in the window they promised, walked me through the options (turns out the previous installer had left the pipework awkward to get to), then cracked on. Everything was tested before they left. No mess, no drama, no surprise on the bill.

Job: Water-Damaged Patio

Good work, poor communication

Work itself was fine and tidy. Communication beforehand was patchy — I did not get the confirmation message and had to ring to check the slot. Would still use again.

Job: Sinking Driveway

Questions people ask about large shed installation

Straight answers to the things customers ask most often before booking.

Can I build a large shed myself?

Some experienced DIYers do, but workshop-size buildings involve heavy panels, roof work at height and a build sequence where early errors are costly. Lifting large roof sections safely needs the right access and enough people. If you want to do parts yourself and have us handle the structure and roof, that's worth discussing at the survey.

What happens during the survey?

We check access routes, ground conditions and base suitability, look at the kit and delivery arrangements, and work out how the build should be staged. You then get a full project quote — what's included, materials needed and realistic working days — before anything is committed.

How many days will the installation take?

The first working day is planned as a substantial one — around eight hours of build time — but large buildings are rarely finished in a day. After the survey we'll tell you how many days the build realistically needs, and the work is staged with each stage quoted and approved before it proceeds.

Do I need planning permission for a large garden building?

That's a question for your local council, and it's your responsibility as the customer to check — permitted development rules depend on size, height and position in the garden. We don't promise compliance status and would encourage you to confirm before the building is delivered, not after.

How much will the installation cost?

You pay a booking fee when you book, and labour is charged hourly at a rate that depends on how soon you need the visit. The full project cost is quoted and approved after the survey, before work starts, with any parts or materials quoted separately — so you approve the total before we build.
