Why the bath seal fails first
The joint between a bath and its wall takes more punishment than any other seal in the house. A bath flexes under a person and under the weight of the water itself, so the sealant stretches every time it fills. It sits in warm, humid air, gets splashed with bath oils and shower gels, and is often scrubbed with abrasive cleaners that gradually eat the surface. In time the bead dries out, loses adhesion along the wall or the bath rim, and lifts. Once it lifts, water runs straight down the back of the bath, into the gap, and works its way through grout, plaster and floorboards below.
Looking at the whole edge
We start by running along the full perimeter — back wall, both ends and the floor line if the bath sits on visible feet or a panel. Sealant often fails in the corner you cannot easily see, while the end you noticed is only the worst stretch. We check whether the bath itself is firm: a bath that rocks on its feet or has an unsecured panel will break any new seal, so we confirm what is solid before committing to resealing. We also look at the wall behind — hollow or cracked tiles, blown plaster, staining — because a failed seal that has been neglected a while may have done damage that needs more than a new bead. Where the signs point to a plumbing leak rather than failed sealant, we say so and point the job the right way.
Cutting out the old bead
All of the old silicone comes out. That is not fussiness: fresh silicone will not bond to a cured silicone skin, and a thin remnant left in the joint is enough to make the new bead peel away within weeks. We slice and lift the old material, pick out fragments from the joint, strip residue, and clean the surface. The joint then has to be dry — silicone on a damp joint is a bead that looks fine for a fortnight and then lets go. We keep the bath unused before the visit where we can, and allow drying time on the day.
Laying the new seal
A sanitary-grade, mould-resistant silicone is applied along the full joint, tooled to a smooth finish that hugs both surfaces and sheds water cleanly. Colour — white, clear or something matched to your tiling — is agreed in advance; if you want a specific brand or colour, it can be arranged or you can supply the tube, and materials are quoted separately from labour. The estimate covers a typical bath reseal in a single visit; heavy mould growth, additional joints such as a separate shower or basin, or repairs to damaged wall behind the joint will extend the scope, and the full cost is agreed with you before we start.
Letting it cure
Cure time is set by the product instructions, and it is not optional. Silicone needs hours — often a full day in a cool bathroom — before it should meet standing water. We will tell you exactly when the bath can be filled again, and the honest advice is to give it the full time: a bead spoiled by an impatient first bath is a bead that gets to be replaced again.
What resealing cannot do
A new seal keeps splash water out of a sound joint. It does not stop a leaking pipe, a failed bath waste, structural movement, or water already coming through the wall, and we do not describe it as a watertight guarantee. If the wall behind the seal is damp, swollen or stained, that damage predates the seal and needs its own answer — plastering or specialist repairs are referred where appropriate. Recurring black mould along the joint usually points to a ventilation problem in the room, which resealing will not cure on its own.
Before we arrive
Leave the bath empty from the night before, clear the rim and any caddy, and pull movable storage away from the end of the bath. If the room is small and warm, so much the better — a warm, dry joint takes sealant better. If you know the bath rocks or a panel is loose, say so at booking so refixing can be discussed and costed before we arrive.
Booking your reseal
Book by phone or through the website; a booking fee is paid on booking and the hourly rate depends on how soon you need the visit. We quote the full cost before starting and you approve it. Same-day visits may be available — ask when you call.

We diagnose on site
The engineer confirms the cause and tells you what the job involves and how long it should take.
You approve, we work
Nothing goes ahead until you agree the price. Labour is then charged per hour at your slot rate.
The seal along the edge of a bath flexes every time it is used, and it is one of the first things to fail in any bathroom. Cracked or lifted sealant lets bathwater soak the gap between bath and wall, which you rarely see until plaster or boarding has suffered. We remove the old seal completely, prepare the joint, and lay a fresh bead that is left to cure properly.

Questions people ask about bath resealing service
Straight answers to the things customers ask most often before booking.
Could I reseal the bath myself?
It is a feasible DIY job in principle, but the failure points are preparation and patience: old silicone must come out completely, the joint must be bone dry, and the new bead needs its full cure time. Miss any of those and the bead lifts within weeks. We strip, prepare and seal to the same standard on every run of the joint.
What do you look at before resealing a bath?
We run the whole perimeter, not just the stretch you noticed, checking where the sealant has failed and whether water has got behind it. We confirm the bath is firm and the wall behind is sound and dry. If anything suggests a plumbing leak or damaged plaster, we raise it before sealing rather than covering it up.
My bath rocks a little — will a new seal hold?
Not reliably: a moving bath will crack any bead applied over it. We would discuss stabilising or refixing the bath first, agree the extra scope and cost with you, and only then seal the joint. If the movement points to a problem beyond a handyman fix, we will say so honestly rather than seal something that will fail.
Do you seal the bath to the floor or panel too?
Where the bath has a visible floor line or a panel that needs sealing, that can be included — it is simply part of agreeing the scope before we start. Tell us at booking which joints you want covered and we will confirm what is in the visit. The estimate covers a typical bath reseal, not an unlimited run of extra joints.
How is bath resealing priced?
You pay a booking fee when you book, and the hourly labour rate depends on how soon you need the visit — a planned date differs from a same-day request. The full cost is quoted and approved before work starts. Sealant and any other materials are identified and quoted separately.
