Reinstalling a washing machine after a move or a kitchen refit is a different job from a first installation, because the machine has a history: hoses that may have been crushed in transit, connections that were disconnected under stress, and a drum that needed its transit bolts back in for the journey. Done carelessly, reinstallation is where leaks, walking machines and tripping electrics begin. Done properly, the machine resumes duty as if it never moved.
What reinstallation involves
We start with an inspection, because movement is hard on machines. Hoses are checked for kinks, crush damage and worn washers; the drain hose for stretching; the back panel for the transit bolts – if the machine travelled without them, the drum suspension has taken the journey's punishment and we check for signs of that. At the new position we confirm the services: cold supply, waste arrangement, floor solidity and access. Then the reconnect: inlet hose with sound washers, drain hose routed to prevent siphoning, machine levelled on its feet and the door checked for full opening. We finish with a full test cycle, checking every connection under real fill, drain and spin conditions – the stage where transit-damaged hoses and loose fittings reveal themselves.
Where reinstallation differs from a new install
An existing machine brings existing wear. Washers and hoses that were fine when installed may have hardened since; a machine moved from a hard-water home may carry scale; and any pre-existing faults – a slow fill, a slight walk on spin – reappear at the new address and get blamed on the move. We will tell you honestly what we find: what is transit damage, what is pre-existing wear, and what simply needs adjusting. If hoses or washers should be replaced before reconnection, we will say so and quote the parts separately rather than reconnect something we would not sign off.
Limits and honest scope
As with first installations, we connect to existing, accessible services only. We do not relocate standpipes, alter household pipework, or install new supply points – if your new position needs plumbing work, we will explain what it involves so you can arrange it, and connect the machine once the services are ready. If the machine was transported lying down or without transit bolts and shows resulting symptoms, we will assess and explain those honestly; some transport damage only shows under test. Extra work found during the visit is quoted and approved before it starts, never simply absorbed into the job.
Aftercare and what to watch for
After the machine settles in, check the connections are staying dry for the first few washes and that the machine remains level and still on spin – new floors behave differently from old ones, especially between a suspended wooden floor and solid ground. Leave breathing room behind the machine so hoses cannot be crushed, keep the tap accessible, and keep the transit bolts for the next move. If anything weeps or the machine walks in the first week, call us promptly rather than waiting – early re-checks are quick.
Booking your reinstallation
Contact Maintenance Men by phone or the website with the machine's make and model, where it is moving from and to, whether it has been transported and with or without transit bolts, and what services exist at the new position. The booking fee is paid when you book, the hourly labour rate depends on how soon you need the visit, and the full cost is quoted and approved before work starts. If the machine has been in storage, mention it, as hoses and seals can suffer in a damp garage.
How the price works
We charge a booking fee to hold your slot, then an hourly rate for the work itself. The fee changes with how soon you need us; the hourly rate changes with the slot you choose. You approve the price before we start, so there is no surprise on the invoice.

We diagnose on site
The engineer confirms the cause and tells you what the job involves and how long it should take.
You approve, we work
Nothing goes ahead until you agree the price. Labour is then charged per hour at your slot rate.
Moving a washing machine without proper care breaks hoses, loses transit-bolt protection and leaves machines unlevel. Reinstallation puts it all back right: connections checked and remade, hoses inspected for transit damage, machine levelled and test-run. Ideal after a house move or kitchen refit.
What our customers say about our home appliances service

Exactly what was quoted
What I appreciated was being told what was actually wrong before anyone started. Sorted in under 27 minutes and the invoice matched the quote to the penny.
Job: Tumble Dryer Not Starting Cycle
Good job, slightly late
Solid work. Hourly rate feels fair for the amount of work involved and everything was tested before they left. Would book again.
Job: Toaster Not Working
No mess left behind
Really straightforward. It had been bothering us for weeks; diagnosed properly, fixed the same visit, and the price was exactly what was explained when booking. Can not fault it.

Questions people ask about washing machine reinstallation
Straight answers to the things customers ask most often before booking.
Should transit bolts go back in for a house move?
Yes, if you have them. They lock the drum so the suspension does not take the journey's shocks, and moving without them risks real damage. If the bolts were discarded, tell us when booking – we will assess the machine with that history in mind and check for symptoms during the test cycle.
Can you reconnect the machine at a position that has never had one?
Only if a cold supply and waste connection already exist there. We connect to existing services but do not create new plumbing or move standpipes. If plumbing work is needed first, we will explain what is involved so you can arrange it, then reconnect and test the machine.
What do you check that a DIY reconnect would miss?
Hose condition after transit, worn inlet washers, correct drain routing to prevent siphoning, solid levelling on the new floor, and a full test cycle under fill, drain and spin conditions. Those checks catch the leaks and walking machines that appear a week after a casual reconnect.
My machine has started leaking since the move – is that connected?
Very possibly. Crushed hoses, loosened connections and dislodged fittings are common consequences of moving a machine. Turn the tap off if it is leaking now, and book a visit; we will trace the leak, remedy what is damaged and quote anything needing replacement.
What does reinstallation cost?
You pay a booking fee when you book, and the hourly labour rate depends on how soon you need the visit, so giving notice helps. The full cost is quoted and approved before work starts. Replacement hoses or washers found necessary are quoted separately, and never fitted without your approval.
