Lukewarm is the most frustrating version of a dryer fault, because the machine appears to be working. You press start, the drum turns, warm air comes out, and yet a normal load is still faintly damp at the end. Weak heat usually means the heater is producing less than it should, or that heat is being lost before it reaches the clothes, and both possibilities need measuring rather than assuming.
What "weak heat" usually means in practice
An electric element can fail in stages, with part of its coil open while the rest still glows, so you get perhaps half the rated output. A cycling thermostat that has drifted will cut the heater early and let the drum cool too far before switching back. Restricted airflow from a clogged filter, a blocked condenser or a crushed vent hose removes heat faster than the element can add it. A heat-pump dryer with a dirty evaporator or a tired compressor behaves in a similar way without any element involved.
Simple things to check first
Clean the lint filter and, on a condensing model, the condenser and its housing. Straighten any kink in the vent hose and check the outside flap opens when the machine runs. Confirm the programme is not on a low-temperature or delicates setting, and try a smaller load, since an overfilled drum cannot circulate air. None of this requires tools, and it resolves a fair number of weak-heat complaints without a visit.
How we diagnose it
We run the machine and measure the current drawn by the heater, which shows whether every element in the assembly is working or only some. We test the thermostats at their switching points rather than just for continuity, because a thermostat that conducts when cold can still open far too early. Airflow is checked at the filter, the condenser and the vent outlet, and the heater relay and board output are confirmed. Where a heat pump is fitted, we check the evaporator, condenser coils and fan.
Repair options and honest economics
On a vented or condenser dryer, a partial element failure means a new heater assembly, and thermostats are inexpensive. Those repairs usually make sense on a machine that is otherwise sound. On a heat-pump dryer, weak heat can point to a sealed refrigeration circuit, which we do not open or recharge; that work belongs with a specialist and may cost more than the appliance is worth. We will tell you plainly when replacement is the better decision.
Safety and limits
Never remove a thermal cut-out or uprate a fuse to get more heat. Weak heat is often the first sign that airflow has been restricted for a while, and the same conditions that reduce performance can scorch lint and wiring. If the cabinet feels unusually hot, the machine smells acrid, or the plug is warm, stop using it and isolate it only if that is safe. Do not open the casing to inspect the heater yourself.
Getting the most from the repair
After the work, run a full load rather than a token one, because weak heat often only shows up under real conditions. Clean the filter every cycle, empty the water container on condensing models, and have the vent run cleaned periodically if it is long or has several bends. Keep the room ventilated, since a cold, damp space makes any dryer work harder.
Booking and what to tell us
Let us know the dryer type, the brand and model, and roughly how long a cycle now takes compared with how it used to perform. Mention whether the drum still gets warm at all and whether the machine has ever cut out mid-cycle. That detail helps us decide whether to allow extra time on the first visit.
How the price works
We charge a booking fee to hold your slot, then an hourly rate for the work itself. The fee changes with how soon you need us; the hourly rate changes with the slot you choose. You approve the price before we start, so there is no surprise on the invoice.

You approve, we work
Nothing goes ahead until you agree the price. Labour is then charged per hour at your slot rate.
When the dryer produces some warmth but never enough, clothes come out slightly damp and cycles stretch on for hours. Partial heat is a different problem from no heat at all, and it often has more than one contributor: a failing element, a thermostat opening early, or airflow that carries heat away before it can do its job. The visit measures rather than guesses.

Good job, slightly late
Solid work. Hourly rate feels fair for the amount of work involved and everything was tested before they left. Would book again.
Job: Toaster Not Working
No mess left behind
Really straightforward. It had been bothering us for weeks; diagnosed properly, fixed the same visit, and the price was exactly what was explained when booking. Can not fault it.

Questions people ask about weak heat in tumble dryer
Straight answers to the things customers ask most often before booking.
Can weak heat be fixed by cleaning alone?
Sometimes. A blocked filter, a clogged condenser or a crushed vent hose can cut performance significantly, and cleaning those is safe to do yourself. If performance stays poor afterwards, the heater or a thermostat is the likely cause.
How do you tell a failing element from a thermostat problem?
We measure the current the heater draws while running and test the thermostats at their switching temperatures. A partially failed element draws less than it should, while a drifting thermostat switches off too early even though the element is sound.
Is it dangerous to keep using a dryer with weak heat?
It is not usually immediately dangerous, but reduced airflow and overheating often go together. If the cabinet is very hot, the plug is warm or you notice an acrid smell, stop using the machine and have it checked.
My heat-pump dryer has weak heat. Is that repairable?
It depends where the fault lies. Fan, sensor and airflow problems can be repaired, but a fault in the sealed refrigerant circuit is not something we open or recharge, and it is referred to a specialist.
What will the visit cost?
A booking fee is paid when you book, and the hourly labour rate depends on how soon you need the visit. The full cost is quoted and approved by you before work starts, with any parts identified and priced separately.
