Airflow is the part of a dryer that people notice least and which causes most of its performance problems. The machine needs a steady stream of air across the load, through the heater, and out through the filter and vent, or round the condenser in a condensing model. When that stream is reduced, heat builds up, drying slows and components run hotter than they were designed to.
Why internal restrictions happen
Lint is small enough to pass a worn filter and settle wherever the air slows down: behind the drum, around the fan housing, on the condenser fins and in the duct between the drum and the outlet. Over years this builds into a felt-like layer. A drum seal that has hardened lets fibres escape the drum and bypass the filter. A fan blade that has lost material or come loose moves far less air. On condensing models, scale and lint on the condenser reduce heat exchange as well as airflow.
Symptoms that point inwards
Drying times climbing steadily over months. The cabinet hotter than usual, especially at the back. The load warm but damp. The machine cutting out and restarting once cool. A musty smell from the drum. Water pooling in the base or the condenser housing. None of these is conclusive on its own, which is why measurement matters.
What the visit involves
We start at the filter and housing, then check the drum seal and the air path behind the drum. The fan housing and blades are inspected, the condenser is removed and cleaned on condensing models, and the ductwork between drum and outlet is checked for lint. We measure airflow at the outlet to get a before and after reading, and we test the thermostats and thermal cut-out because restricted airflow often leaves them stressed or tripped.
Clearing it properly
Cleaning the accessible parts is straightforward. Reaching lint packed behind the drum means removing panels and sometimes the drum, which is a bigger job but still routine on most machines. Replacing a worn drum seal is often necessary to stop the problem returning, because a leaking seal will simply re-contaminate the air path. A damaged fan blade is replaced rather than cleaned.
Repair or replace
Cleaning and seal replacement are modest repairs with a good result. A fan motor or a condenser assembly costs more. On an older machine where the airflow problem has been accompanied by overheating, the economics can tip towards replacement, and we will show you the comparison rather than deciding for you.
Safety
Do not remove panels to clean inside the machine yourself. Beyond the electrical risk, the drum and heater are easily damaged, and lint near a heater is exactly the material you do not want to disturb without isolating the appliance. If the dryer has overheated or there has been any burning smell, stop using it and book a visit rather than attempting a clean. Do not run the machine with the door ajar to improve airflow, and do not remove the filter to increase movement; both make overheating more likely.
Preventing a repeat
Clean the filter every cycle, clean the condenser as instructed, and have the vent run cleaned periodically. Avoid overloading, which forces the machine to work harder and pushes more lint past the filter. If you notice the drum seal perishing or black deposits around the door, mention it at the next visit.
Booking
Describe the symptom and what you have already cleaned, and tell us whether the machine has cut out or smelled hot. Give the brand, model and dryer type. If you can, note the cycle time now and what it used to be, as that gives us a baseline to measure against.
How the price works
We charge a booking fee to hold your slot, then an hourly rate for the work itself. The fee changes with how soon you need us; the hourly rate changes with the slot you choose. You approve the price before we start, so there is no surprise on the invoice.

We diagnose on site
The engineer confirms the cause and tells you what the job involves and how long it should take.
You approve, we work
Nothing goes ahead until you agree the price. Labour is then charged per hour at your slot rate.
When the filter is clean and the vent looks fine but the dryer still underperforms, the restriction is often inside the machine itself. Lint packs behind the drum, fan blades lose their edge, seals fail and condensers clog in places you cannot see. The visit measures airflow at each stage to find the actual obstruction.

Questions people ask about airflow restriction issue
Straight answers to the things customers ask most often before booking.
Can I clean inside the dryer myself?
Only the user-accessible parts: the filter, the condenser if the manual says it is removable, and the water container. Do not remove panels or reach behind the drum, because of electrical risk and the chance of damaging the heater or drum.
How do you locate an internal restriction?
We check the filter housing, drum seal, fan housing and blades, condenser and internal ducting, and measure airflow at the outlet. Comparing readings before and after cleaning confirms the restriction has actually been removed.
Is restricted airflow dangerous?
It raises the temperature inside the machine and is a recognised fire risk when lint accumulates near the heater. If the dryer has overheated or smelled of burning, stop using it until it has been checked.
Will cleaning alone fix it?
Usually, if lint is the cause. If a drum seal has failed or a fan blade is damaged, cleaning will only be temporary and the part needs replacing, which we will identify during the visit.
How is the cost worked out?
You pay the booking fee when you book, and the hourly labour rate depends on how soon you need the visit. We quote the full cost and you approve it before work starts. Parts are identified and quoted separately.
