Repair work on adjustable furniture is mostly diagnosis. The parts involved — supply unit, control box, handset, actuators, linkage, frame — are few, and each has characteristic failure patterns. The skill is in testing them in the right order so the answer is certain rather than probable.

What We Cover

  • Electrical faults: dead furniture, tripping circuits, blown fuses, damaged leads, failed transformers and control boxes.
  • Control faults: handsets that will not respond, buttons that have failed, panels showing errors, locks that will not release.
  • Motor and actuator faults: sections that will not move, move slowly, move one way only, or stall under load.
  • Mechanical faults: jams, binding linkage, worn rollers and pivots, distorted frames, seized brakes.
  • Structural faults: loose or failed fixings, cracked rails, bent brackets, sagging bases.
  • Cosmetic and functional restoration: replacing damaged handsets, cables and fittings so the furniture works as intended.

How a Repair Visit Runs

We ask what the furniture does and does not do, and when it started. That conversation usually narrows the field before a tool comes out. Then we work through the system in a fixed order: supply and protection, transformer output under load, handset, control box, each motor, then the mechanism and frame.

Testing under load matters. A supply that reads correctly with nothing connected can collapse the moment a motor starts, and a mechanism that moves freely unloaded can bind the instant weight is applied. Several "intermittent" faults are simply faults that only appear under the conditions the furniture actually works in.

We keep you informed as we go, and we tell you when we have found the cause rather than continuing to test for the sake of it.

Repair, Replace, or Stop

Once the fault is known, there are usually three honest options. Repair where a single component has failed and the rest of the furniture is sound — this is most cases. Replace the component set where several related parts are failing together, such as a control box and handset of a type no longer sold separately. Or acknowledge that the furniture has reached the end of its working life, where the frame has distorted or the mechanism is worn at multiple points.

We will give you our view plainly, including when we think repair is not worth the money. We do not have a financial interest in the third option, and we would rather tell you the truth than take on work that will not last.

Parts

Parts are matched to your manufacturer's specification and quoted separately, so you can see what the component costs before deciding. We do not fit pattern parts of unknown origin to load-bearing or mains components, and we do not modify the furniture to accept a part it was not designed for.

Some parts are discontinued, particularly on older beds. We will tell you as soon as we know, and discuss compatible alternatives rather than ordering something on the hope it fits.

Safety During and After

Do not use furniture that has tripped the electrics, smelt of burning, moved on its own or failed to stop when commanded. Unplug it at the wall and leave it. Never put hands into a moving mechanism, and never reach under a raised section — a section that drops without warning is a serious hazard.

If someone is stuck in an awkward position, help them out safely first. Use a manual release only where the manufacturer provides one and describes its use, and only if you are confident to do it. If they are in pain or distressed, call 999.

We do not certify furniture as suitable for a particular person's needs; that is for the user, their family and carers, and the manufacturer's limits.

After the Repair

We test every function through its full range, check that paired sections track evenly and that the furniture carries load without labouring. We will tell you what to watch for and what routine checks are worth doing, so the next fault is caught while it is still small.

Booking

Give us the make and model, a description of the symptom, and anything you have already tried. The booking fee is paid when you book, labour is charged hourly at a rate that depends on how soon you need us, and the full cost of the work is quoted and approved before we start, with parts quoted separately.

How the price works

We charge a booking fee to hold your slot, then an hourly rate for the work itself. The fee changes with how soon you need us; the hourly rate changes with the slot you choose. You approve the price before we start, so there is no surprise on the invoice.

£25 booking fee

then £85 per hour of labour

3

You approve, we work

Nothing goes ahead until you agree the price. Labour is then charged per hour at your slot rate.

When electric furniture goes wrong, the uncertainty is often worse than the fault: is this a small part, a large one, or the end of the furniture's life? A repair visit is designed to answer that. We test systematically, tell you what we found, and give you a clear cost before anything is touched, so the decision is yours and it is an informed one.

What our customers say about our mobility & accessibility service

4.5 out of 5 from 8 reviews

Proper job, no upselling

Turned up in the window they promised, walked me through the options (turns out the old fitting was seized and needed careful removal), then cracked on. Everything was tested before they left. No mess, no drama, no surprise on the bill.

Job: Loose or Faulty Brakes

Fine in the end

The problem is fixed, which is the main thing, and the engineer clearly knew what they were doing. It took a fair bit longer than the estimate on the phone and I had to ask twice for a breakdown of the hours.

Job: Stair Lift Service

Would use again

What I appreciated was being told what was actually wrong before anyone started. Sorted in under 70 minutes and the invoice matched the quote to the penny.

Questions people ask about repair of electric furniture

Straight answers to the things customers ask most often before booking.

Is it worth repairing an older electric bed?

Often, yes — a transformer, handset or single actuator is a modest repair and the frame may have years left. It stops being worthwhile when the frame has distorted or the mechanism is worn at several points. We will give you a straight view either way rather than taking on work that will not last.

How do you work out what has failed?

In a fixed order: supply and protection, transformer output under load, handset, control box, each motor, then the mechanism and frame. Testing under load matters, because some faults only appear when the furniture is doing real work. That sequence means we identify the cause rather than replacing the most likely part.

Can you repair the control board or motor itself?

No. Sealed motors, actuators and control boards are replaced as complete units, matched to your manufacturer's specification. Board-level repair on mains equipment is not something we would stand behind, and reassembled sealed motors are unreliable. Where a part is discontinued we will tell you and discuss compatible options.

The furniture tripped the electrics — can I still use it?

No. Unplug it at the wall and leave it until it has been checked. The same applies if it has smelt of burning, moved on its own, or failed to stop when you released a button. Those symptoms point to faults that need attention before anyone uses the furniture again.

How will the cost be worked out?

You pay a booking fee when you book, and the hourly labour rate depends on how soon you need the visit. We diagnose first, then quote the full cost of the repair for your approval before starting. Any parts are quoted separately so you can see the component cost before deciding.
