Locked out happens to careful people
Keys get left on the kitchen counter, locked in the car, or dropped somewhere between the front door and the bus stop. It doesn't mean carelessness, and it's not a situation to be embarrassed about. What matters next is how it's handled — because a locked front door is exactly the situation where you should be choosy about who you let work on it, and about what methods are used.
The first step is establishing who you are and what the door is
Before we discuss methods, we need to confirm that the property is yours and that you're entitled to ask for entry. That normally means proof of residence — things like ID with the address, post addressed to you at the property, or a neighbour or nearby family member who can vouch for you. We know that's the last thing you want to hear while standing on the doorstep, but it protects everyone, including you: it means the person working on your door has checked, and it means you're not standing next to a stranger while someone works on your lock. If authority to enter can't be established, the work may not proceed — that's a firm rule, not a negotiating position.
How we approach the door
Once authority is confirmed, we assess the door and lock and explain the realistic options, along with what each involves and costs, before anything is attempted. Where a lock has simply failed — a mechanism that won't retract from the outside, a cylinder that's come loose — the approach is hardware work: diagnosing the fault and dealing with it, which may mean repair or replacement of the affected part. Where keys have been locked inside a working lock, gaining entry to a secure external door is a specialist task, and we'll be honest about whether it's something we can help with or whether a locksmith is the right call. What we don't do is promise a particular outcome in advance, promise that entry will be achieved without damage, or suggest ways to defeat the lock yourself — no responsible company can or should.
Honest limits — and when we may have to decline
Some situations we'll step back from. If the evidence of occupancy is thin, we may decline. If the door and lock are such that the only plausible approaches would cause significant damage or need skills we don't have, we'll say so and point you to a reputable locksmith rather than have a go and leave you worse off. If a window or back door is already insecurely open, we'll advise on the safest and most sensible course — but we won't climb, break in or bypass security to get you inside. These limits exist so that you know any work we do perform was done properly and legitimately.
Once you're back in
Getting inside is step one; making sure it doesn't happen again is step two. If the lock failed rather than the keys going missing, we can quote for repairing or replacing it properly. If keys were lost outside the home — especially if anything with your address on it went with them — it's worth discussing replacing the lock or cylinder so a found set of keys is an inconvenience rather than a risk. We'll talk through both before we leave, with no obligation either way.
Booking when you're standing outside
Call or book online and say clearly that you're locked out now, which door is involved, and what happened to the keys. Have whatever proof of residence you can find to hand. You pay a booking fee on booking and labour is charged hourly, with the rate depending on how soon you need us — urgent visits cost more, so it's worth deciding how quickly you genuinely need in. The full cost of any approach is agreed with you before it's attempted, and nothing starts until you've approved it.
How the price works
We charge a booking fee to hold your slot, then an hourly rate for the work itself. The fee changes with how soon you need us; the hourly rate changes with the slot you choose. You approve the price before we start, so there is no surprise on the invoice.

£25 booking fee

We diagnose on site
The engineer confirms the cause and tells you what the job involves and how long it should take.
You approve, we work
Nothing goes ahead until you agree the price. Labour is then charged per hour at your slot rate.
Being locked out is stressful, and it's a moment when you're vulnerable to whoever turns up first. We take lockouts seriously and carefully: before anything is attempted, we establish that you live at the property and have the right to ask for entry. Then we agree exactly what will be tried and what it will cost — and if a safe, legal way in can't be established, we'll tell you rather than improvise.
What our customers say about this job
5 out of 5 from 1 reviews
Fixed it properly, not just patched
Turned up in the window they promised, walked me through the options (turns out the blockage was deeper in the pipe than it looked), then cracked on. Everything was tested before they left. No mess, no drama, no surprise on the bill.

Questions people ask about locked out service
Straight answers to the things customers ask most often before booking.
Can you get me back in without damaging the door?
We can't promise that, and you should be wary of anyone who does. The right approach depends entirely on the door, the lock and why you can't get in — sometimes the fault is hardware that can be dealt with cleanly, sometimes entry to a secure lock needs a specialist. We assess first, explain what each option involves, including the risk of damage, and you decide before anything is attempted.
Why do you need proof that I live at the property?
Because working on someone's front door at their request is only legitimate if the request comes from the person entitled to it. Proof of residence — ID with the address, post addressed to you, or someone who can vouch for you — protects you, us and your neighbours. If authority to enter can't be established, we may have to decline the job; that's a policy we don't bend.
What if you can't get me in?
Then we tell you honestly, on the spot, and we don't charge for a method that was agreed but couldn't be safely used. Depending on the door and lock, the realistic answer may be a specialist locksmith, and we'll say so rather than attempt something we're not equipped for. We'd rather lose a job than leave your door damaged or half-defeated.
My keys are locked inside and the lock works fine — what can be done?
That's a different problem from a broken lock: the mechanism is healthy, so the question is how entry is gained without defeating a working lock. We'll assess the door and explain what options realistically exist, including when a locksmith is the appropriate route. What we won't do is suggest ways to bypass the lock yourself or on site.
How much does a lockout visit cost?
There's a booking fee paid on booking, and labour is charged hourly with the rate depending on how soon you need the visit — urgent same-day attention costs more than a scheduled slot. We agree the full cost of whatever approach we recommend before starting, and you approve it first. Any parts, such as a replacement cylinder, are quoted separately from the labour.
