Installation is the part of the furniture's life where the fewest things go wrong and where the most can be prevented. A bed assembled squarely, sitting level on its castors, with cables clipped clear of moving parts, will run quietly for years. The same bed assembled in a hurry, on an uneven floor, with a lead draped across a frame edge, will produce faults within months.

Before We Arrive

A few things make the visit straightforward. Clear the room and the route in, because these are heavy items and a base that has to be squeezed through a doorway risks damage to the furniture and the decoration. Have the packaging accessible for disposal, or tell us you would rather keep it. Confirm the make and model and that all boxes are present — a missing fitting kit stops an install.

Check where the furniture will sit, and whether there is a socket within reach of its lead. A recliner needs clearance behind it to recline, and some models need to stand away from the wall. If the only socket is on the opposite wall, we will not run a lead across a floor or daisy-chain extension leads; a socket in the right place is electrical installation work and belongs to an electrician.

If the person using the furniture has specific requirements, note them now — which side they get in from, whether they need the handset on a particular side. These are easy to accommodate at installation and awkward afterwards.

What the Install Covers

  • Assembly according to the manufacturer's instructions, with every fixing fitted and tightened to the intended points — not "most of them".
  • Positioning and levelling, so the base sits flat, castors or glides bear evenly, and the furniture does not rock.
  • Clearance checks behind and around a recliner, and enough room at the side of a bed for safe transfer.
  • Cable routing — supply lead, low-voltage runs and handset cable clipped and grommeted clear of every moving part, with slack at flex points rather than tension.
  • Handset placement, on the side the user actually needs it, with the cable routed so it does not drape across the floor.
  • Function testing through the full travel of every section, unloaded and then loaded where appropriate, checking that paired actuators track evenly.
  • A demonstration of the controls, the lock function, the battery backup if fitted, and what to do if it stops.
  • Packaging removal if you want it taken away.

Fixings and Floors

Where a bed or chair is to be secured — some rise chairs and bariatric beds are — the fixing is only as good as the floor beneath it. We check the substrate before fixing and will say when a floor cannot take the intended load without additional preparation. We will not fix into a floating floor, a void or a screed of unknown depth and call it secure.

On solid floors, levelling matters more than fixing: a base that rocks will twist over time and start binding. We adjust glides and castors so the load is even.

What Installation Does Not Include

We do not certify the furniture as suitable for a particular person's weight, size, mobility or medical needs. That is a matter for the user, their family and carers, and the manufacturer's stated limits. We install to the manufacturer's instructions and test what we have installed.

We do not carry out electrical installation work: a new socket, a dedicated circuit or a spur is for an electrician, and we will tell you when that is what the room needs.

We do not remove old furniture unless we have agreed that in advance, and we do not take away packaging unless asked.

Safety at Handover

Before we leave we will show you how to stop the furniture quickly, where the plug is, and what to do if a section stops mid-movement — including whether your model has a manual release and how it is used. We will point out the places where cables run so nobody catches one with a vacuum cleaner, and we will ask you to run the controls yourself while we are there, because doing it once with someone watching is worth more than being told.

Booking the Install

Have the make and model, the delivery date and the room measurements to hand, and tell us about stairs, narrow doorways or lifts. The booking fee is paid when you book, labour is hourly at a rate that depends on how soon you need us, and the full cost is quoted and approved before work starts. If additional parts or fixings are needed, they are quoted separately.

How the price works

We charge a booking fee to hold your slot, then an hourly rate for the work itself. The fee changes with how soon you need us; the hourly rate changes with the slot you choose. You approve the price before we start, so there is no surprise on the invoice.

3

You approve, we work

Nothing goes ahead until you agree the price. Labour is then charged per hour at your slot rate.

A new adjustable bed or recliner is a significant purchase, and how it is installed affects how well it works and how safe it is to use. Assembly is only part of it: the furniture needs to sit level, the cables need to be routed where the mechanism cannot reach them, and every function needs testing through its full range before anyone relies on it. That is what the visit covers.

Questions people ask about electric furniture installation

Straight answers to the things customers ask most often before booking.

Can I assemble the bed myself?

Many people can, if they are comfortable with the instructions and have someone to help lift. The parts that are easy to get wrong are levelling, cable routing and testing paired sections for even tracking. If the furniture will carry someone with limited mobility, having it installed and tested properly is worth the cost.

What does the installation include?

Assembly to the manufacturer's instructions, positioning and levelling, clearance checks, and cable routing clear of the mechanism. We also place the handset where it is needed, test every function unloaded and loaded where appropriate, demonstrate the controls, and take the packaging away if you want it gone.

Do you need to fix it to the floor?

Only where the manufacturer requires it, which applies to some rise chairs. Where fixing is needed, the fixing is only as good as the floor beneath, so we check the substrate first and will say if it cannot take the load. On solid floors, levelling correctly matters more than fixing.

There is no socket near where the bed needs to go — can you sort that?

A new socket, spur or dedicated circuit is electrical installation work and needs an electrician, so we will tell you that is what the room needs rather than running a lead across the floor or daisy-chaining extensions. Once the socket is in place we can complete the installation.

How is the installation priced?

You pay a booking fee when you book, and the hourly labour rate depends on how soon you need the visit. We confirm the scope, then quote the full cost and you approve it before work starts. Any extra fixings or parts are quoted separately.
