The holes your old fittings left behind

Take down a shelf, move a TV bracket or rehang a room, and the wall rarely comes away clean. There are the obvious holes where plugs were driven, the ragged patches where anchors tore out of plasterboard, hairline cracks radiating from a fixing that failed under load, and the old paint ghost that shows exactly where the bookcase used to stand. All of it is fixable, and all of it is worth fixing before you redecorate or hang anything new in the same area — a new fixing driven into old damage is a new failure waiting to happen.

What we assess before filling anything

Not every hole is the same, so we start by classifying what we are looking at. A clean drilled hole in sound plaster needs a simple fill. A torn-out anchor in plasterboard needs the damaged area cut back and patched so the paper face is restored. Cracked plaster around an old fixing point needs the loose material removed back to solid wall before filling, or the patch will fall out with the next gust of the vacuum. And we check the cause: if the wall is damp, moving, or damaged over a wide area, this becomes specialist territory — structural movement, damp and suspected asbestos need proper diagnosis, and we will tell you plainly when a job is beyond a filling-and-patching visit.

How we repair the wall

For each point, the method is the same in principle: cut back to sound material, fill or patch with a suitable product, let it cure, then sand back flush so the repair disappears under paint. Small holes are filled in a single pass; larger patches may need more than one application with drying time between them. In plasterboard, a torn fixing hole often needs the cavity opened slightly and properly filled rather than smeared over, otherwise the surface flexes and the patch cracks again. We leave the work clean, sanded and ready for decoration.

Where our part of the job ends

Be clear about the boundaries, because they matter to your plans. Making good the wall — filling, patching, sanding — is our work. Full-scale replastering is a plasterer's job, and we will say when damage is too large for a patch. Paint matching is its own honest limitation: a fresh fill may blend well into existing paint, or it may show as a slightly different sheen, and a full repaint of the wall is a decorating decision we agree separately. If you want us to refit the shelf or picture that came down, we will fix into sound material, never straight back into a fresh fill before it has cured.

What to prepare

Clear the wall and the area beneath it — furniture shifted back, pictures off, curtains unhooked where they hang in the way. If you know what was fixed where, and especially if anything fell, that history helps us judge the repair. If you plan to redecorate afterwards, tell us, because it can change the finish we leave.

Aftercare

Fills and patches need their drying time before sanding and painting, and we will tell you how long to leave it for the products used. Keep heavy fixings out of brand-new fills until the material has fully cured; when you do refit, use the right plugs for the wall and the load, or book us to do the refitting as a separate short visit.

Booking

Most wall making-good visits are straightforward and take an hour or two depending on how many points there are. Same-day availability may exist if you call early. Book through us and you pay the booking fee on booking, hourly labour depends on how soon you need us, and the full cost is agreed with you before any work starts — materials, if any are needed, are quoted separately.

How the price works

We charge a booking fee to hold your slot, then an hourly rate for the work itself. The fee changes with how soon you need us; the hourly rate changes with the slot you choose. You approve the price before we start, so there is no surprise on the invoice.

1

Book the slot

Choose the window that suits you and pay the booking fee. That holds your place in the diary.

2

We diagnose on site

The engineer confirms the cause and tells you what the job involves and how long it should take.

3

You approve, we work

Nothing goes ahead until you agree the price. Labour is then charged per hour at your slot rate.

Every wall that has ever held a shelf, a TV bracket or a row of pictures carries the evidence: rawlplug holes, patched anchors, cracks where something tore away. Left alone they show through paint and catch the eye; refix into them carelessly and the new fitting fails too. We repair failed fixing points properly, so the wall is sound before the next thing goes up.

Questions people ask about wall fixing repair service

Straight answers to the things customers ask most often before booking.

Is this a job I could do myself?

A small drilled hole in sound plaster is a genuine DIY fill with a tube of filler and a scraper. What catches people out is torn plasterboard, cracked plaster around fixings and larger patches — those need the right materials and a bit of technique to survive. If you would rather not risk a patch that cracks again in a month, that is what we are for.

What do you actually do on a repair visit?

We inspect each damaged fixing point, remove loose or failed material, fill or patch with products suited to the wall type, and sand the repairs flush once cured. We also tell you honestly if any damage is beyond patching — wide areas of failed plaster, damp or structural issues need a specialist rather than a filler.

Will the repair be visible after painting?

Once filled, sanded and painted, a sound repair should disappear into the wall. The honest caveat is paint matching: new filler can take paint slightly differently from the surrounding wall, so on some walls a fresh coat over the whole area gives the cleanest result. We will flag it before we start if we think that applies.

Can you repair the wall and rehang the picture in the same visit?

Often yes, but not into a fresh fill. Filler needs time to cure before it can hold a fixing, so for the same visit we would fix into sound material — for example, slightly away from the filled holes — or schedule the refit for a later short visit once the repair has cured. We will suggest whichever suits your job.

How does pricing work for this service?

A booking fee is paid when you book. The hourly labour rate depends on how quickly you need the visit, with more notice usually costing less per hour. We quote the full cost of the work before starting and you approve it, and any materials such as filler or patch plaster are identified and quoted separately.
