First, the immediate safety steps
If a shelf, bracket, mirror or mount is visibly pulling away from the wall — a gap opening, a screw standing proud, the fixture dipping at one end — treat it as live until it has been checked. Keep people and pets clear of the space beneath it. Take the weight off if you can do so without putting your hands under a load that might drop: empty the shelf, unplug and lift off anything resting on a bracket, and do not hang or lean anything new on it. Do not "test" it by pulling — that is how a marginal fixing becomes a fallen one. Do not use the fixture for anything until it has been looked at. If the item is heavy and already moving, it may be safer to keep well clear and let us deal with the removal as well as the refit; we can talk that through on the phone when you book.
Finding out why it failed
A fixture does not come away from a wall for no reason, and repairing the symptom without the cause is how you end up booking us twice. So the first part of the visit is diagnosis. The usual culprits: fixings that were never matched to the wall — light plugs in masonry, nothing solid behind a plasterboard fixing; plaster that has crumbled around the fixing point until the plug has nothing to grip; an anchor that has pulled out of plasterboard taking a chunk of the face with it; or simply a load that grew past what the fixture was fitted to carry. Each failure tells us something different about the repair.
Making it safe and repairing the ground
Once we know the cause, the failed fixing comes out and the wall around it gets assessed. Sound wall with the wrong plugs is the simplest case — new fixings matched to the wall and the real load, and the fixture goes straight back up. Crumbled plaster or a torn plasterboard face needs the damage made good first: local filling and patching, given time to cure before the fixing goes back into solid material. We never refix into fresh filler that has not cured, and we will not paper over damage that is too extensive — if the wall itself needs more than a local repair, we will say so and scope the wall repair properly rather than leave you with a fixture bolted to a facade.
Refitting with the load in mind
The refit is deliberately more conservative than the original installation. Fixings get matched to the actual weight the fixture carries, not an optimistic estimate of it; where a single fixing point has failed, we often add a second or spread the load across the bracket; and we finish by testing the fixture under a realistic load before we leave. You will be told what the refitted fixture can carry — and, just as importantly, what it cannot — so the same failure does not happen again next time the shelf gets restocked.
What happens if the fixture itself is damaged
A fixture that has partially torn free is sometimes bent, cracked or has elongated its own fixing holes, particularly shelves and thin brackets. We will check that during the visit and tell you honestly if the fixture is fit to refit or should be replaced before it goes back up. A replacement can be supplied by you or sourced and quoted separately.
When to call
Call as soon as you notice movement — the difference between an early call and a late one is often the difference between a re-fixing visit and a repair-plus-repair visit. Same-day attention may be available if you get in touch early in the day. Booking is straightforward: you pay a booking fee on booking, the hourly labour rate depends on how urgently you need us, and the full cost is quoted and approved before any work starts.
How the price works
We charge a booking fee to hold your slot, then an hourly rate for the work itself. The fee changes with how soon you need us; the hourly rate changes with the slot you choose. You approve the price before we start, so there is no surprise on the invoice.

We diagnose on site
The engineer confirms the cause and tells you what the job involves and how long it should take.
You approve, we work
Nothing goes ahead until you agree the price. Labour is then charged per hour at your slot rate.
A fixture that is visibly coming away from the wall is not a tomorrow job. Whatever it is carrying is one door slam away from landing on the floor — or on someone. While you wait for us, keep the area clear and take any load off the fixture if you can do so safely. We find the cause of the failure, repair the wall where needed and refit the fixture so it holds again.

Questions people ask about falling wall fixture repair
Straight answers to the things customers ask most often before booking.
Is a pulling-away fixture really urgent?
Yes, treat it that way. A fixture that has started to come away has usually lost most of its grip already, and the rest can go with vibration, a door slam or a bit more weight — dropping whatever it carries onto the floor or someone. Keep the area beneath clear, take the load off if it is safe to do so, and do not use the fixture until it has been checked and refixed.
What will you inspect on the visit?
We examine the fixture, its fixings and the wall around each fixing point to establish why it failed — wrong plugs for the wall, crumbled plaster, a torn plasterboard anchor or an overload. Then we repair the damaged ground as needed, refix with hardware matched to the real load, and test the refitted fixture before we leave.
Can the fixture always be refitted in the same place?
Often yes, but not always. If the original fixing points have crumbled or torn out, we may move the fixings slightly to sound ground and fill the old holes, and if the fixture itself is cracked or bent from the failure we will tell you it should be replaced before it goes back up. We will not refix into a wall that cannot take a safe fixing, wherever that leaves the position.
Should I take things off the shelf myself before you arrive?
Yes, if you can do it safely — unload from the ends towards the middle, keep your body out from under the fixture, and stop if the shelf moves while you are unloading. If the fixture is already moving or the contents are heavy and awkward, leave it alone, keep everyone clear, and tell us when you book so we bring what we need to secure it on arrival.
What does an emergency-style refit cost?
There is a booking fee when you book, and the hourly labour rate depends on how soon you need us — urgent same-day attention costs more per hour than a booked-ahead visit. We quote the full cost of making the fixture safe and refitting it before work starts, and you approve that quote. Any replacement fixings or a replacement fixture are quoted separately.
