The pieces that need the most care
Decorative wall pieces are often the trickiest things in the house to hang: a metal wall sculpture with no obvious hanging points, a heavy carriage clock, a shadow box, a fragile ceramic piece, a heirloom plate on a wire plate hanger. They are frequently more valuable — financially or sentimentally — than everything else on the wall, and people are rightly nervous about drilling near them. Decorative wall mounting is careful work: planned, measured and finished level, with the piece handled as the valuable thing it is.
Assessing the piece before the wall
Every decorative piece is assessed for two things. First, its own hanging arrangement: many ornamental pieces have poor or no fixings on the back — a flimsy loop, a sawtooth clip barely attached, or nothing at all — and the hanging method is chosen to suit the piece, not just the wall. If the piece needs better fittings fitted to its back, we discuss that at booking; some we can fit, others want a gentler solution, and a very fragile or unusually valuable piece may be one we recommend you have hung by a specialist instead. We would rather say that than improvise near something irreplaceable.
Second, the wall and what is behind it: solid masonry, plasterboard, or older plaster; the weight of the piece; and the usual planning around cables and pipes so no hole is made blindly. Where a piece is heavier than it looks — metal wall art often is — the fixing is chosen for its real weight, not its apparent one.
Position and finish
Decorative pieces usually sit within an arrangement — above a console, flanking a mirror, in a group — so the level and spacing matter as much as the fixing. We mark from a level line, hold the piece in position for you to approve, and only then drill. Anything visible around the fixing — a wire, a chain, a bracket — is arranged to look deliberate. Once up, every piece is checked level and square from where the room will be viewed, not from two feet away.
Working within a group
When several decorative pieces belong together — a pair flanking a mirror, a cluster above a sideboard, a run along a landing — we mark the group from a single level line and keep the spacing even, because a group of one-off pieces only reads well if the gaps are consistent. Where pieces differ in weight, the heavier ones get the stronger fixings rather than the whole group being fitted to the lightest standard. If one piece in a group is too heavy for its spot, we would rather flag it and discuss a swap or a reposition with you than fit it hopefully and let the wall decide later.
Limits, said plainly
Very heavy sculptural pieces are a dedicated heavy-mounting job with structural fixings rather than a quick hang, and we will size that honestly. Fragile ceramics and older pieces are handled carefully, but we do not make promises about delicate items beyond the care we take; if a piece is genuinely irreplaceable, we discuss whether hanging it is sensible at all before starting. We do not alter electrics, so illuminated decorative pieces need an accessible plug socket rather than new wiring.
Preparing and aftercare
Have the pieces out and accessible, and keep the boxes and packaging until you are happy with the result. Tell us what each piece weighs if you know, and whether any has particular sentimental value worth extra care in planning. Afterwards, check pieces occasionally for level — doors slamming and radiator warmth both move things — and keep delicate pieces out of direct sunlight and away from radiators, which age finishes faster than dust ever will.
Booking
Tell us the pieces, their approximate weights, and where they are going. Same-day may be available across the West Midlands. A booking fee is paid when you book, the hourly labour rate depends on how soon you need us, and the full cost is quoted and approved before work starts, with any special fittings identified and quoted separately.
How the price works
We charge a booking fee to hold your slot, then an hourly rate for the work itself. The fee changes with how soon you need us; the hourly rate changes with the slot you choose. You approve the price before we start, so there is no surprise on the invoice.

You approve, we work
Nothing goes ahead until you agree the price. Labour is then charged per hour at your slot rate.
Decorative wall pieces are often the hardest things in the house to hang honestly: a metal wall sculpture with no obvious hanging points, a heavy clock, a fragile ornament that cannot take a knock. They usually matter more than the pictures around them, and they are usually the items people are most nervous about drilling near. We take the time to plan the fixing before making the hole.

Questions people ask about decorative wall mounting
Straight answers to the things customers ask most often before booking.
Can I hang decorative pieces myself?
For a light piece on a solid wall with a decent fixing, yes. The complications are pieces with poor or no hanging fittings on the back, fragile or sentimental items you cannot afford to knock, and metal wall art that weighs far more than it looks. Those are the cases where a planned fixing and a careful pair of hands earn their keep.
What do you inspect before mounting?
We assess each piece's hanging arrangement and weight first, then the wall construction at the position and the likely routes of cables and pipes. We hold the piece in position for your approval before drilling, and arrange any visible wires or chains to look deliberate. Every piece is checked level from where the room is viewed, not from up close.
What if a piece has no hanging fixings on its back?
It happens constantly with decorative items, and the answer depends on the piece: some take standard D-rings or plates fitted to the back, some suit a specific hanger, and a few fragile or unusually valuable pieces are better left to a specialist. We discuss what your piece needs at booking rather than improvising on the day, with any fittings quoted separately.
Can you hang things above a radiator?
We can fix them there, but we will advise against it: rising heat ages frames, finishes and adhesives faster than almost anything else, and radiator walls make the plaster condition harder to predict. If the position matters to the room, we assess the wall carefully, choose fixings accordingly, and let you make the final call with the trade-off explained.
How does pricing work?
There is a booking fee when you book, and the hourly labour rate depends on how soon you need the visit. The full cost is quoted before work starts and approved by you. Any special hangers or fittings the pieces need are identified and quoted separately as materials.
