When a wall mount lets go, the instinct is to screw it straight back in. Resist that instinct. A mount fails for a reason — the wrong plug for the wall, a fixing in hollow board with nothing behind it, a load heavier than the fixing was chosen for, or wall material that has simply crumbled — and until that reason is understood, the same failure is waiting to happen again, possibly with something heavy attached to it.

A mount that has pulled away from the wall is easy to underestimate. The item — a television, a shelf, a cabinet — may look undamaged, but the bracket can be subtly bent, and the wall behind is usually worse than it appears from the front. Both get checked before anything is refixed, because a sound bracket on a ruined wall, or a straight wall with a bent bracket, is half a repair.

The usual suspects. A standard plastic plug in plasterboard or dot-and-dab board, where there is a void behind the skim and nothing to grip. Fixings placed between the studs or noggins of a frame, so the screws hold in nothing but board. A load that grew over time — the shelf that holds books today held candles when it was fixed. Vibration from a nearby door or appliance gradually working fixings loose. Or simply age: plaster around a decades-old fixing loses its grip. Each cause points to a different repair, which is why the diagnosis comes first.

The assessment

We examine the mount itself — bent, cracked, or still sound — and the wall: solid masonry, stud partition, or board bonded to brick. We look at the failed holes and the condition of the material around them, and we think about the load: what was mounted, how much it weighed, and where the forces go. We also check the likely routes of hidden pipes and cables before any drilling, using known safe zones and careful checks — though no check can guarantee that nothing hidden is there, so we drill with care and stop at anything unexpected.

Refixing, done properly

The failed holes are not simply reused. Damaged wall material is repaired first — filler or patching that sets hard, given real drying time where the repair needs it. Then the mount goes back with fixings matched to the wall construction: correct-diameter plugs in masonry, cavity anchors or toggles where there is a void, screws that reach the frame where there is one. If the original position was simply wrong for the wall — dead centre between studs, for example — we will discuss moving the mount slightly rather than repeating the mistake.

For heavy items, especially televisions, lifting and positioning can need a second pair of hands; we will tell you if that applies to your setup. The customer normally supplies the item and its compatible bracket — we confirm both at booking so nothing is assumed.

Limits and honesty

If the wall cannot carry the load safely at any sensible position, we will say so and discuss alternatives — a different fixing approach, reinforcement, or repositioning — rather than fit something that will fail. Cable management, where wanted, is limited to non-invasive options such as surface trunking; we do not chase walls or rewire. And if the failure revealed damage, damp or materials we suspect could contain asbestos, we stop and refer before continuing.

Booking

Same-day visits may be available for straightforward refixes. You pay a booking fee when booking, the hourly labour rate depends on how soon you need us, and the full cost is quoted and approved before work starts. Any wall repair materials or fixings beyond our standard kit are identified and quoted separately.

How the price works

We charge a booking fee to hold your slot, then an hourly rate for the work itself. The fee changes with how soon you need us; the hourly rate changes with the slot you choose. You approve the price before we start, so there is no surprise on the invoice.

Book the slot

Choose the window that suits you and pay the booking fee. That holds your place in the diary.

2

We diagnose on site

The engineer confirms the cause and tells you what the job involves and how long it should take.

3

You approve, we work

Nothing goes ahead until you agree the price. Labour is then charged per hour at your slot rate.

A mount that has failed — a television bracket, a shelf, a wall cabinet — needs more than screws driven back into the same holes. Something made it fail, and refixing without understanding why is how it happens again. We diagnose the cause first, then refix with the right hardware for your wall.

Questions people ask about wall mount refixing service

Straight answers to the things customers ask most often before booking.

Could I refix the mount myself?

If the original fixing pulled out, doing exactly the same thing again usually produces exactly the same result. The skills in a proper refix are diagnosing why it failed and matching fixings to the wall construction. If a heavy item was involved, or the wall is plasterboard, a professional refix is the safer call.

What do you check before refixing a mount?

We examine the mount for damage, identify the wall construction, assess the condition around the failed holes, and consider the weight the fixing must carry. We also check for likely hidden pipes and cables before drilling — carefully, though no check can promise nothing is concealed.

Is there a limit on the weight a refixed mount can hold?

Yes — the wall and the fixings set the limit, not preference. Solid masonry carries more than a plasterboard partition, and some loads need fixings into the frame or additional support. If the wall cannot carry the item safely where you want it, we will explain the options rather than fit something that will fail again.

Who supplies the item and bracket?

Normally you supply the item being mounted and its compatible bracket, and we confirm this when you book so nothing is assumed on the day. If you need help sourcing a replacement bracket, tell us and we can identify what is required and quote for it separately.

What does a refix visit cost?

There is a booking fee paid when you book, and the hourly labour rate depends on how soon you need the visit — same-day work is typically at a different rate to a planned visit. The full cost of the agreed refix is quoted before work starts and you approve it. Extra fixings or repair materials, if needed, are quoted separately.
