A broken wall fixture is rarely just the fixture. Whatever snapped usually did so under load or impact, and the same event often leaves its mark on the wall: a pulled-out fixing, cracked plaster, or a chunk of board gone. Fixing one without the other gets you a working item on a damaged wall, or a repaired wall with nothing secure to hang. We treat the pair as one job.
What breaks, and what can be done
Common casualties include shelving brackets that bent or snapped under weight, mirror plates and fixings that sheared, curtain pole brackets pulled out of the wall, towel rails torn from crumbly plaster, and hooks or cabinet fixings that stripped out. The first question is always repair or replace. Metal brackets often bend rather than break and can be trued up; snapped plastic parts and stripped threads usually mean replacement; items where the manufacturer no longer supplies parts may need a compatible alternative.
Assessment: the fixture and the wall
We examine the fixture itself — what failed, whether it is safely repairable, and whether a replacement part even exists. Then we look at the wall: how big the damage is, what the wall is made of, and whether the failure says anything about the wall's ability to carry the item at all. A shelf that snapped under a normal load on a solid wall is a simple swap; the same failure on a weak plasterboard partition is a conversation about fixings and weight.
If the fixture holds anything valuable or heavy — books, a television, a cabinet — we also check for secondary damage before removing anything, and support the item properly while we work.
The repair process
First the broken fixture comes off carefully, so the wall damage does not get worse. Then the wall is put right: failed fixings removed, crumbled or cracked material cut back to sound edges, holes filled or patched with material suited to the wall, and everything allowed to dry and set properly. Finally the repaired or replacement fixture goes up with fixings chosen for the actual wall — the right plug, the right anchor, the right screw length — and tested under real load, not just a glance.
Parts, supply and honest limits
We do not pretend every broken fixture is mendable. Where a replacement is needed, you can supply the new part or item, or we can identify what is required and quote for it separately — we do not assume materials are included. Matching a discontinued or unusual fitting is not always possible, and where an exact match does not exist we will show you the realistic alternatives. If removing the fixture reveals something we did not expect — suspected asbestos-containing materials in older finishes, ongoing damp, or damage that looks structural — we stop, explain, and refer you to the right specialist rather than ploughing on.
Preparing for the visit
If you already have a replacement, have it to hand with any fixings it came with. Tell us what the fixture held and roughly how heavy it was — that shapes the fixings we bring. Clear the area beneath and around the fixture so there is room to work safely.
Booking
Same-day visits may be available where the repair is straightforward. Book through maintenance-men.com: there is a booking fee to pay when you book, the hourly labour rate depends on how soon you need the visit, and the full cost of the agreed work is quoted and approved before we begin. Parts and materials are identified at assessment and quoted separately.
How the price works
We charge a booking fee to hold your slot, then an hourly rate for the work itself. The fee changes with how soon you need us; the hourly rate changes with the slot you choose. You approve the price before we start, so there is no surprise on the invoice.

We diagnose on site
The engineer confirms the cause and tells you what the job involves and how long it should take.
You approve, we work
Nothing goes ahead until you agree the price. Labour is then charged per hour at your slot rate.
When a wall fixture breaks — a snapped bracket, a cracked shelf support, a mount that sheared off — the wall behind is often damaged too. We sort out both: the fixture itself, and the hole or crumbled plaster it leaves behind, so the end result is something that works and looks right again.

Questions people ask about broken wall fixture repair
Straight answers to the things customers ask most often before booking.
Is a broken bracket something I can fix myself?
A metal bracket that has simply bent can often be straightened and refixed with confidence. Snapped parts, stripped threads or a damaged wall behind are different — the repair needs to address why it broke, not just rehang it. If the item was carrying weight, having the fixings assessed properly is the safer route.
What do you look at before starting the repair?
We check what failed on the fixture and whether it can be safely mended, then inspect the wall behind — the state of the plaster or board, what the wall is made of, and whether the failure hints at a deeper problem. The plan, and any replacement needed, is agreed with you before work begins.
What if the wall is damaged where the fixture was?
That is normal and part of the job — we repair the wall as well as the fixture, filling or patching to a sound, smooth finish. Bear in mind that painting the repaired area is a separate decorating step and is not automatically included in the repair visit.
Can you get parts for any broken fixture?
Not always. Some manufacturers do not sell spare parts, and discontinued fittings can be impossible to match exactly. We will identify what is needed, tell you honestly if an exact match is unavailable, and suggest compatible alternatives — with the part supplied by you or quoted separately.
How is pricing handled?
A booking fee is paid when you make the booking, and the hourly labour rate depends on how soon you need the visit. Before any work starts we quote the full cost of what has been agreed and you approve it. Any replacement parts or repair materials are identified and quoted separately.
