What the service covers

Roller, Venetian, Roman, vertical, day-night and pleated blinds all fit the same way at heart: brackets, level, and a careful check of every measurement before drilling. What differs is the detail — roller blinds need the bracket spacing and roll direction right, Venetians need the headrail seated square so the slats tilt evenly, and Romans need the rail fixed true so the folds stack neatly. We fit the blind you have bought, to the window recess or the wall or ceiling above it, and we make sure it works smoothly before we leave.

Measurements and the check that saves the day

Blinds are made to measurements, and the most valuable thing we do is often confirming those measurements against the window before fitting. A blind made for a recess will not fit inside a recess with tiles or a handle in the way; a blind made for exact fitting needs clearance either side. We check the blind against the window, agree recess or exact fit, and agree the position — inside the recess, on the frame surround, or above the opening — before any fixing is made.

Then the material behind: plasterboard, masonry, the uPVC of a modern window surround, or tiles in a kitchen or bathroom. Each takes a different approach, and some take no approach at all — we generally avoid drilling into the window frame itself, where a slip can damage the sealed unit, preferring the recess face or the wall above. We plan around the usual routes of cables and pipes, and we do not make a hole we are not satisfied about.

Fitting and the safety details

Brackets are fixed level and square, the blind is seated, and we test the full action — lowering, raising, tilting where applicable — several times. Cord and chain safety matters in homes with children, and blinds supplied in the UK come with safety devices; we fit those devices as the maker specifies and set cords so they do not hang as a loop within a child's reach. That is part of the job, not an optional extra.

Motorised blinds raise one boundary: battery-powered ones we fit like any other, but anything needing mains wiring is electrical work we do not carry out — an electrician handles that, and we fit the blind around it.

Different rooms, different care

Kitchens and bathrooms need an extra pass of thought: steam and grease shorten the life of some fabrics, tiles and splashbacks change how and where brackets can be fixed, and there are more cables and pipes packed around sinks and hobs than anywhere else in the house. Bedrooms usually want blackout alignment — a blind that misses the frame edges by a centimetre each side leaks morning light down both sides. We take the room into account when agreeing the position, rather than fitting every blind the same way out of habit.

What to have ready

Have the blind and its box of fixings ready, with the maker's instructions to hand if they are available. Tell us the room, the blind type, and whether it is recess or exact fit when booking, and mention tiled or awkward walls. Clear the sill and the working area.

Aftercare

Operate the blind with its control, not the fabric — pulling a roller blind down by its bottom bar distorts the roll over time. Dust Venetian slats closed with a dry cloth or a blind duster, spot-clean fabric blinds rather than washing them, and check the cord or chain safety device is still secured after any cleaning spree. If a blind ever rolls unevenly, it is usually a bracket question, and small adjustments early stop it becoming permanent.

Booking

Tell us the blind type, the room, whether it is recess or exact fit, and your timescale; same-day may be available. You pay a booking fee when booking, the hourly labour rate depends on how soon you need the visit, and the full cost is quoted and approved before work starts. Any fixings needed beyond the blind's own hardware are identified and quoted separately.

How the price works

We charge a booking fee to hold your slot, then an hourly rate for the work itself. The fee changes with how soon you need us; the hourly rate changes with the slot you choose. You approve the price before we start, so there is no surprise on the invoice.

1

Book the slot

Choose the window that suits you and pay the booking fee. That holds your place in the diary.

2

We diagnose on site

The engineer confirms the cause and tells you what the job involves and how long it should take.

3

You approve, we work

Nothing goes ahead until you agree the price. Labour is then charged per hour at your slot rate.

A blind is unforgiving of carelessness: a bracket set a millimetre out shows as a gap down one side, and a roller blind fitted off square rolls unevenly from the first pull. Fitting is quick when the measurements and the brackets agree — and the checking beforehand is what makes it quick.

Questions people ask about blind installation service

Straight answers to the things customers ask most often before booking.

Can I fit blinds myself?

A straightforward blind on a sound recess is a reasonable DIY job, and many people do. Where it goes wrong is measurements checked after purchase rather than before, brackets set off square showing as gaps and uneven rolling, and drilling into the wrong part of a window surround. If the blind is made to measure and you want it right first time, an hour of professional fitting is cheap insurance.

What do you do on the visit?

We check the blind against the window and the measurements it was made to, agree recess or exact fit and the fixing position, then fit the brackets level and square and seat the blind. We test the full action — raising, lowering, tilting — several times, and fit the cord or chain safety devices exactly as the maker specifies. Nothing is drilled until the position is agreed with you.

Can you fit blinds to a uPVC window frame?

We generally avoid drilling into the window frame itself: a slip there can damage the sealed unit, and the frame is not the right material for load-bearing fixings. The usual answers are fixing to the recess face above the glass, to the wall or architrave, or choosing a blind style that suits a no-drill position. We look at your window and say which applies.

Can you help with measurements before I order?

Yes — a checking visit before you order is often the cheapest part of the whole job, and far cheaper than a blind made ten millimetres wrong. Tell us at booking that the blind is not yet purchased and we will agree the measuring, or send us the sizes you have and we will confirm they make sense for the window and the style you want.

How does pricing work?

You pay a booking fee when booking, and the hourly labour rate depends on how soon you need the visit. The full cost is quoted before work starts and approved by you. Any fixings beyond the blind's own hardware are identified and quoted separately as materials.
