Same-day CCTV System Setup

Urgent jobs can often be booked for today. Ask when you book and we will confirm the slot before you pay anything.

Out of the box, CCTV equipment does almost nothing useful. Default settings record too little or too much, motion detection triggers on every bird and shadow or on nothing, remote viewing is unconfigured, and the retention settings may mean footage vanishes after a day or fills the drive in a week. A proper setup is the difference between owning equipment and owning a system, and it is the visit that pays for itself in avoided frustration.

What a setup visit actually involves

We start by understanding how you want the system to behave: which areas matter most, whether you want continuous or motion-based recording, how much history you need, and who will check it and how. Then we configure the recorder and each camera to match — recording modes and schedules, motion detection zones and sensitivity tuned to your property rather than left at factory defaults, image quality balanced against storage, retention and overwrite behaviour set sensibly, and notifications adjusted so they are useful rather than relentless. Night settings are checked against your actual conditions. If remote viewing is wanted, we connect the system to your network and set up the app on your own phones and tablets, tested from inside and outside your WiFi. Finally we test recordings end to end: trigger motion, watch it record, play it back.

Getting the settings matched to your life

Settings are personal, and factory defaults fit nobody. A system that pings your phone forty times a day gets ignored, which is worse than no notifications at all; a system that records nothing unless motion triggers it can leave gaps if detection is tuned badly. We will talk through these trade-offs and set things up around how you actually live — pets, passing traffic, trees, delivery frequency — and explain what each setting does so you can adjust them later with confidence. Where your equipment has capabilities you are not using, such as better night modes or smarter detection, we will tell you about them rather than leaving features switched off out of the box.

Remote access done safely

Remote viewing is genuinely useful, and it deserves a word about handling. We configure access on your own devices with you present, and we will flag anything insecure we notice — default passwords above all — because a system that is remotely accessible should not be remotely guessable. Bear in mind that remote features depend on your broadband, your router and third-party apps or services we do not control, so we configure and test everything we can and tell you honestly what sits outside our control. And once footage is easy to view on a phone, the usual responsibilities apply: recordings are personal data, the owner handles them lawfully and considerately, cameras cover your own property rather than neighbours' homes or public space, and clips are shared only appropriately — for example with the police if they request them. We configure equipment; we do not provide legal advice.

Aftercare

We will show you the everyday skills: playing back a clip, saving footage worth keeping, checking the timeline, and recognising the warnings — beeps, drive icons, offline cameras — that mean something needs attention. Keep the box, the manuals and our details together; a system set up properly still benefits from a check-in if your household, network or property changes.

Booking a setup visit

Tell us what equipment you have — makes and models of cameras and recorder — whether it is already mounted or still in boxes, and what you want the system to do for you. You pay a booking fee when you book, labour is charged hourly at a rate that depends on how soon you need the visit, and the full cost is quoted and approved before we start, with any additional parts quoted separately.

How the price works

We charge a booking fee to hold your slot, then an hourly rate for the work itself. The fee changes with how soon you need us; the hourly rate changes with the slot you choose. You approve the price before we start, so there is no surprise on the invoice.

Booked 14+ days ahead

£25 booking fee

then £85 per hour of labour

Best value. Book the slot now, pay the smallest booking fee.

Booked within 48 hours

£100 booking fee

then £65 per hour of labour

For jobs that can wait a day or two but not a fortnight.

Same-day call-out

£220 booking fee

then £45 per hour of labour

Urgent problems: standing water, no heat, no power, leaks.

1

Book the slot

Choose the window that suits you and pay the booking fee. That holds your place in the diary.

2

We diagnose on site

The engineer confirms the cause and tells you what the job involves and how long it should take.

3

You approve, we work

Nothing goes ahead until you agree the price. Labour is then charged per hour at your slot rate.

Buying CCTV equipment is the easy part; getting it configured so it records reliably, alerts usefully and views remotely is where systems quietly fail. A setup visit turns boxes of equipment into a working system matched to your property and habits. We configure, test and then teach, so you are not left with a manual and a shrug.

What our customers say about our Security & CCTV service

5 out of 5 from 7 reviews

Would use again

Third time we have used Maintenance Men, and the same experience each time: agreed price, proper explanation, job done in one visit. The hourly rate is fair for the standard of work.

Job: CCTV Installation

Second time we have used them

I had put off sorting this for months because I expected a runaround. Quoted the booking fee plus hourly rate upfront, stuck to it, and actually found the underlying cause rather than just clearing the symptom. Worked neatly and hoovered up afterwards.

Job: Backup Battery Fault

Exactly what was quoted

What I appreciated was being told what was actually wrong before anyone started. Sorted in under 56 minutes and the invoice matched the quote to the penny.

Job: Alarm Repair Service

Questions people ask about cctv system setup

Straight answers to the things customers ask most often before booking.

Is setting up a CCTV system a DIY job?

Basic app-guided setup of a consumer camera is realistic DIY. A full system — recorder configuration, motion tuning, retention settings, network and remote access — is where DIY setups usually go wrong, and misconfigured settings often mean the system records less than you think. We do it properly and teach you what each setting does.

What do you configure during a setup visit?

Recording modes and schedules, motion detection zones and sensitivity, image quality and storage balance, retention and overwrite behaviour, night settings and notifications — then network connection and the app on your own devices, all tested end to end from recording to playback to remote viewing.

Can you make the app stop sending so many alerts?

Yes — relentless notifications are the commonest setup complaint, and the fix is tuning motion zones and sensitivity to your property rather than app settings alone. We will configure alerts so they mean something, and show you how to adjust them later as seasons and habits change.

Will you need my WiFi password and phone during the visit?

Yes, for remote viewing setup — we will need the network details and your device with you present, entering anything sensitive yourself. We will explain exactly what we need access to and why, and you stay in control of your own accounts and passwords throughout.

How much does a setup visit cost?

You pay a booking fee when you book. Labour is charged hourly at a rate that depends on how soon you need the visit. The full cost is quoted and approved before work starts; parts are quoted separately.
