What old mounts leave behind

A wall that has carried a television often shows it. There are the obvious things: fixing holes from the bracket, often several sets if the screen has moved over the years, and a mark or shadow where the screen hung. There are the less obvious ones: plaster that crumbled when a fixing pulled out, hairline cracks radiating from over-loaded holes, a paper-face tear on plasterboard where an anchor ripped free, and sometimes a hole the size of a fist where something gave way entirely. Each type needs its own repair, and each matters for a different reason — some for appearance, some because the wall's strength is in question.

Assessing the damage first

We look before we fill, because the visible damage is not always the whole story. A small hole in solid plaster is a straightforward fill; the same-sized hole in plasterboard may mean the board's core is crushed locally and needs proper attention; a crack needs to be understood before it is filled, because a crack that is still moving will reappear through any filler. We also ask what happened: a hole from careful decorating is one thing, and a hole from a pulled-out TV fixing is another — the second raises the question of whether the wall is strong enough for the next fixing, and where that fixing should go.

Repairing the damage

Small holes and scars are the bread and butter of this job: the hole is cleaned out, filled with a suitable filler, allowed to dry per the product's instructions, sanded smooth and left ready for decoration. Larger damage takes more: a plasterboard tear or break may need the damaged section cut back and patched with new board or a filler system designed for the purpose, and crumbled plaster may need building up in layers rather than one pass. What we are clear about from the start is the finish: filling and sanding are included in the work, but paint matching and full decoration are usually a separate matter unless we have agreed them — a filled, sanded patch is ready for paint, not painted invisibly.

What repairs can and cannot fix

An honest repair has limits. Cosmetic filling fixes appearance and, at small scale, restores enough surface for a fixing — but it is not a cure for structural movement, ongoing damp or a wall that is failing for reasons of its own. If a crack is live, if the damage keeps recurring in the same spot, or if there is any sign of damp or a bigger structural story, the right answer is a specialist assessment first, and we will say so plainly rather than fill over the top of a symptom. Similarly, a wall that pulled a TV fixing out may need its fixing strategy rethought — different anchors, a different position, or reinforcement — which is a conversation we are happy to have when the wall is sound again.

Ready for remounting

Most people repairing mount damage want to know one thing: can a TV go back up here? Once the repair has fully dried and cured — and we will tell you how long that realistically takes, because filler over a fresh fixing point is a false economy — the wall can take a mount again, with the position and fixings chosen in light of what happened before. If you want the remount done as part of the same job or a follow-up visit, say so when booking and we will plan for it, including the wall assessment that a previously damaged spot deserves.

Booking

Same-day slots may be available for small repairs, and planned visits suit patching that needs drying time between stages. You pay a booking fee on booking, labour is charged hourly at a rate that depends on how soon you need the visit, and the full cost is quoted and approved before work starts. Filler, patching board and other materials are identified and quoted separately.

How the price works

We charge a booking fee to hold your slot, then an hourly rate for the work itself. The fee changes with how soon you need us; the hourly rate changes with the slot you choose. You approve the price before we start, so there is no surprise on the invoice.

1

Book the slot

Choose the window that suits you and pay the booking fee. That holds your place in the diary.

2

We diagnose on site

The engineer confirms the cause and tells you what the job involves and how long it should take.

3

You approve, we work

Nothing goes ahead until you agree the price. Labour is then charged per hour at your slot rate.

Taking a TV down, or having a fixing fail, leaves evidence: raw holes, crumbled plaster, sometimes a crack where the mount pulled. Repairing that damage properly matters — not just for looks, but because a damaged wall cannot be trusted with the next fixing until it is made sound.

Questions people ask about damaged tv wall repair

Straight answers to the things customers ask most often before booking.

Can I fill TV bracket holes myself?

Small holes are a reasonable DIY job — filler, dry, sand. What people get wrong is the follow-up: filling over a hole that will take a fixing again, filling a crack that is still moving, or sanding and painting without the right preparation. If the damage came from a pulled-out fixing, having the wall assessed matters more than the filling itself.

What does the repair involve?

We assess the damage and the wall around it, clean out and fill the holes with suitable filler, build up larger patches in stages where needed, and sand to a finish ready for decoration. Paint and full decoration are usually separate unless agreed. We also tell you honestly if the damage points at a wall problem that filling will not fix.

Can a TV be remounted on the repaired spot?

Once the repair has fully dried and cured, yes — with the position and fixings chosen in light of what happened before. We would not recommend putting the same fixing back into the same failed hole; the anchor type, position or wall strategy should change. We can assess and quote the remount as its own piece of work.

What if the crack comes back after filling?

Then the crack was telling you something, and filling it again just resets the clock. A recurring crack suggests movement, damp or an underlying fault that needs a specialist look — those are outside what cosmetic filling can address. We would rather refer you to the right trade than bury a symptom.

How much does wall repair cost?

You pay a booking fee on booking, and hourly labour at a rate that depends on how soon you need the visit. The full cost is quoted and approved before work starts, and it depends on how much damage there is and how many stages the repair needs. Filler, board and materials are identified and quoted separately.
