A careful assessment helps identify a practical rail solution without guessing at the strength of the wall or the needs of the person using it.
Choosing a useful position
Tell us where support is needed: beside a doorway, along a short passage, near a step or at another point in the home. We consider the approach, hand reach, available space and whether the rail might catch clothing or obstruct a door. The best position is not necessarily the one that looks neatest or matches a standard measurement. We do not prescribe clinical heights or claim that a particular rail suits an individual's health needs. If an occupational therapist has recommended a location or supplied measurements, share that advice so we can check whether the building can accommodate it safely.
Selecting the fitting approach
Rail length, shape, grip and finish affect how it fits the wall and the space. We look at how brackets can be placed without relying on weak plaster, damaged tile or a hollow area with no suitable support. Where possible, we discuss more than one location. If the requested position has no sound fixing points, a different rail or a nearby position may be more realistic than forcing an installation. Any backing, tile alteration or wall repair that changes the job is discussed as a separate item before proceeding.
What to prepare
Before we arrive, identify the part of the route you want to improve, note any previous repairs and tell us if the wall is tiled, damp, cracked or hollow-sounding. Clear enough space to inspect and work. If a family member or carer will use the rail differently from the main user, let us know so we can understand the intended loading and approach. Photos are useful for planning, but they cannot confirm wall construction, hidden services or the strength of concealed backing.
How we assess and plan
The visit starts with a conversation about how the rail will be used, the route a person takes and the point where support is needed. We look at the wall, its condition and construction, available fixing positions, nearby fittings and any likely obstructions. A solid-looking surface is not proof of a suitable fixing point: plasterboard, hollow partitions, loose plaster, weak masonry and hidden services each change what is safe to attach. We discuss what the wall can support and whether a different position or method is needed.
Fixing, approval and aftercare
We explain the proposed rail, fixings, position and limits before work begins. The fixing is only as strong as the wall behind it; if the substrate and fixing arrangement cannot safely take the intended load, we will not simply fit the rail there. We may discuss another location or suitable backing, or explain that a different trade or more substantial project is needed. Any additional work is quoted separately. Once you approve the full cost, we install to the agreed scope, then check attachment and finish. We explain how to look for movement and ask you not to use the rail if it loosens, cracks or shifts. The booking fee is paid when booking; hourly labour depends on how soon you need the visit. Parts are quoted separately, and no work starts until the full cost is approved.
Booking and practical limits
When arranging the visit, tell us the property type, where the rail is wanted, what the wall is made of if known, and whether it is a new fitting or part of another project. Photos can help us understand access and visible damage, but they cannot confirm what is inside a wall. Keep the area clear and point out pipes, cables, concealed services or previous repairs you know about. We do not make medical or clinical judgements about the right equipment or position; an occupational therapist's advice is the user's resource. We can assess building conditions and explain practical options, but a larger backing or building alteration may need a separate survey and quote.
How the price works
We charge a booking fee to hold your slot, then an hourly rate for the work itself. The fee changes with how soon you need us; the hourly rate changes with the slot you choose. You approve the price before we start, so there is no surprise on the invoice.

We diagnose on site
The engineer confirms the cause and tells you what the job involves and how long it should take.
You approve, we work
Nothing goes ahead until you agree the price. Labour is then charged per hour at your slot rate.
A new rail can make a familiar route easier to manage, but it needs a dependable fixing rather than just a convenient place on the wall. We check the surface and layout before discussing practical options, so you know what the installation involves before approving work.
What our customers say about our mobility & accessibility service
4.5 out of 5 from 8 reviews
Proper job, no upselling
Turned up in the window they promised, walked me through the options (turns out the old fitting was seized and needed careful removal), then cracked on. Everything was tested before they left. No mess, no drama, no surprise on the bill.
Job: Loose or Faulty Brakes
Fine in the end
The problem is fixed, which is the main thing, and the engineer clearly knew what they were doing. It took a fair bit longer than the estimate on the phone and I had to ask twice for a breakdown of the hours.
Job: Stair Lift Service
Would use again
What I appreciated was being told what was actually wrong before anyone started. Sorted in under 70 minutes and the invoice matched the quote to the penny.
Job: Control Panel Fault

Questions people ask about grab rail installation
Straight answers to the things customers ask most often before booking.
Can I choose the height myself?
You can tell us your preferred height and any measurements you have, and we will consider whether the wall and layout allow it. For clinical positioning or individual support needs, an occupational therapist's advice is the user's resource.
What do you check before fitting?
We inspect the wall, proposed fixing points, rail layout and nearby obstructions, then discuss the appropriate fixing approach for the intended load. We do not start until you have approved the full cost.
Is every wall suitable?
No. Weak, hollow, cracked or damaged surfaces may not safely take a rail at the requested point. We will explain if a different position, backing or further building work is needed.
Can you fit rails in more than one room?
Yes, we can discuss several locations, but each wall and intended position needs its own assessment. Tell us the rooms and approximate number of rails when booking so we can scope the visit.
How is the price worked out?
A booking fee is paid when booking. The hourly labour rate depends on how soon you need the visit; the full cost is quoted and approved before work starts, with parts quoted separately.
