The small job that is worth doing properly
Hanging a picture is the classic quick job, and it is genuinely quick when it is done right: one sound fixing, one level frame, done. What turns it into a frustrating afternoon is doing it wrong — hooks that do not suit the frame's hangers, fixings that do not suit the wall, and a frame that hangs a degree off true so you spend a week nudging it. We do the small version of this job well, and we are honest that for most single light frames that is all it needs.
Choosing position and height
We start where you want the frame: on the wall, marked, before any drilling. The usual convention is for the centre of the frame to sit around eye level, which most people find lands somewhere in the region of 145 to 150 centimetres from the floor — but conventions bend to rooms: above a sofa or sideboard the frame sits relative to the furniture, and in a hallway with a staircase it follows the sight line. You decide, we confirm it is workable, and we mark it precisely.
Fixings that suit the frame and the wall
The two things that matter are what the frame hangs from and what the wall is made of. Traditional frames with cord or D-rings want a hook or screw left standing slightly proud; frames with sawtooth or keyhole hangers want a matching fixing set correctly; and the wall decides the plug — masonry takes one kind, plasterboard another, and a fixing chosen without checking either is how frames end up on the floor. We assess the wall at the fixing point, avoid likely pipes and cables, and never drill blind. Light frames on sound walls need surprisingly little; the value of the visit is that the little that is needed is done correctly.
Level, checked and finished
The frame goes up, we check it level across the top and square against any neighbours it sits beside, and adjust until it is right — then it stays right, because the fixing beneath it is sound. If the frame has come with its own hanging hardware, we use it; if hardware needs supplying, we will agree and quote that separately from the labour.
Where this job ends and another begins
A quick hanging visit suits light and medium frames. It does not pretend to cover very heavy pieces, oversized canvases or mirrors with real weight — those need fixings matched to the load and sometimes two people to lift, and we would rather quote them properly as a heavy hanging job than treat them as an afterthought. If you have a batch of frames rather than one, that is a multi-picture job where the layout and spacing planning is the difference between a wall that works and one that does not.
What to have ready
Decide roughly where you want the frame before we arrive, or be there to agree it at the wall. Have the frame unwrapped with its hanging hardware attached where it has any. Clear the wall and the floor beneath it, and if the frame is valuable or fragile, say so — the fixing choice can be adjusted accordingly.
Aftercare
A properly hung light frame needs no aftercare beyond the occasional check that it still sits level, particularly on a plasterboard wall or a door that gets slammed. If a frame shifts or the fixing works loose, tell us — an early adjustment beats a frame on the floor.
Booking
A single frame on a sound wall is a very short visit, and two or three light frames often fit the same appointment — it is worth mentioning everything you want hung when you book. Same-day slots may be available if you call early. The booking fee is paid when you book, the hourly labour rate depends on how soon you need the visit, and the full cost is quoted and approved before we start, with any supplied hardware quoted separately.
How the price works
We charge a booking fee to hold your slot, then an hourly rate for the work itself. The fee changes with how soon you need us; the hourly rate changes with the slot you choose. You approve the price before we start, so there is no surprise on the invoice.

We diagnose on site
The engineer confirms the cause and tells you what the job involves and how long it should take.
You approve, we work
Nothing goes ahead until you agree the price. Labour is then charged per hour at your slot rate.
A frame hung properly disappears into the room — level, secure, at the right height — while one hung in a hurry draws the eye every time you pass. We hang your pictures where you want them, with the right fixing for the weight and the wall, and we get the level right the first time so there are no tell-tale clusters of abandoned holes.

Questions people ask about picture frame hanging
Straight answers to the things customers ask most often before booking.
Should I hang a picture myself or call you?
A light frame on a wall you know is a fair DIY job — a hook, a level, done. It is worth a call when you are unsure about the wall, the frame has no hanging hardware or real weight to it, or you have already had one attempt and do not want a second set of holes. We make the small jobs quick and get the level right first time.
What do you check before putting the fixing in?
We confirm the position with you, assess what the wall is made of at that point, pick a fixing suited to the frame's weight and hangers, and avoid drilling where pipes or cables are likely to run. Nothing is drilled blind, and if a position cannot take a safe fixing we will discuss alternatives rather than force it.
How high should a picture be hung?
The common convention is centre of the frame around eye level, roughly in the region of 145 to 150 centimetres from the floor, but context changes it — above a sofa the frame relates to the furniture, and along a staircase it follows the sight line. We will advise if you want guidance, but the position is always your decision, confirmed at the wall before we drill.
Can you hang a heavy mirror or large canvas on this kind of visit?
Not as a quick hanging job. Heavy pieces need fixings matched to their weight and the wall construction, and large items may need two people to lift safely — that is a heavy hanging job, quoted properly with its own assessment. We would rather scope it honestly than treat a substantial piece as a bolt-on to a light-frames visit.
What does it cost to have a frame hung?
There is a booking fee when you book, and the hourly labour rate depends on how soon you need the visit — more notice usually means a lower rate. The full cost is quoted before work starts and you approve it. If hanging hardware needs to be supplied, that is identified and quoted separately from the labour.
