Sofas that arrive in a box
More furniture now arrives as flat pack sofas: click-together corner units, sofabeds, chaise ends and "no assembly needed" models that turn out to need more than unfolding. They are heavy, bulky and mechanically fussier than they look — link mechanisms must be aligned exactly, connectors seated with real force, and covers and foam refitted without wrinkles. Done wrong, the result is a sofa that rocks, gapes at the joints or refuses to fold flat; done right, nobody can tell it arrived in boxes.
The practical realities first
Access decides everything. A sofa in boxes still needs a route through your front door, hall and stairs, and corner units in particular may need building in the room they will live in — measure, or tell us about tight turns when you book. Building space matters too: a two-seat sofa assembled is bigger than you think, so rooms are usually cleared first. Where a sofabed is involved, the mechanism is the heart of the piece, and we build and test it with the patience it deserves.
How we build
We unpack and check every part against the manufacturer's list before starting, because a missing connector arm is much easier to handle at the start than at the end. Frames are joined in the order the instructions specify — the connectors and link hardware are directional and need proper force to seat, which is where our tools earn their keep. Feet and legs are fitted and tightened, the sofa is levelled on your floor, and then we test it the way you will: sit, lean, rock, and for a sofabed, fold it out and back several times until the mechanism runs clean.
Weight, covers and finishing
Flat pack sofas are genuinely heavy, and some stages are a two-person lift; we plan the build so nothing is manhandled at a bad angle. Cushions, covers and foam are refitted as the maker intends, with velcro and zips seated properly, and the whole piece is checked for level and stability — a sofa that rocks on an uneven floor is an adjustable-feet job, not a fact of life. Where a part is missing or damaged on arrival, we assess what can reasonably be done and identify manufacturer replacement parts if needed, which you would order separately.
Choosing the configuration
Many flat pack sofas are configurable — a chaise that fits left or right, corner units that mirror, sofabeds that fold one way rather than the other. Deciding before the frames come together saves a genuine dismantling job, so have a think about the room: which corner the chaise should fill, which way you naturally enter the seating area, and where the sofabed needs to unfold without hitting a coffee table. We will talk through the options on site before anything is joined, and build to the layout you choose rather than the one the diagram happens to show first.

Tell us too if anything else arrived in the delivery — an armchair from the same range, a footstool — because assembling the set together in one visit is usually quicker and cheaper than separate bookings. And if any boxes arrive damaged, photograph them and mention it when you call, so the assessment starts with the facts rather than surprises.
Booking
Tell us the sofa type, the room and your access when you book — a ground-floor lounge and a third-floor flat are different jobs, and tight stairwells sometimes change the plan. Same-day visits may be available. A booking fee is paid when you book, labour is charged hourly with the rate depending on how soon you need us, and the full cost is quoted for your approval before we start. We are fully insured and cover the West Midlands.
How the price works
We charge a booking fee to hold your slot, then an hourly rate for the work itself. The fee changes with how soon you need us; the hourly rate changes with the slot you choose. You approve the price before we start, so there is no surprise on the invoice.

The engineer confirms the cause and tells you what the job involves and how long it should take.
You approve, we work
Nothing goes ahead until you agree the price. Labour is then charged per hour at your slot rate.
Flat pack sofas look simple in the showroom photo and arrive as a puzzle of heavy frames, link mechanisms and foam. We assemble them from the manufacturer's instructions — corners, sofabeds and click-together designs included — testing every mechanism the way you will use it, and leaving you with a sofa that sits level and solid.

Questions people ask about sofa assembly
Straight answers to the things customers ask most often before booking.
Can I assemble a flat pack sofa myself?
Possibly, but be realistic about the lifting — connector arms and corner sections are heavy and need forcing together at awkward angles, which is where backs and panels get damaged. Sober mechanisms add another layer of alignment. If you have a helper and plenty of time, take it carefully; if not, this is one of the assemblies most worth delegating.
What do you inspect before building the sofa?
We check every part against the manufacturer's list first, so a missing connector or damaged panel is known before the frames come together. We look at the access route, the building space and the final position, and for sofabeds we study the mechanism's sequence before joining anything. Heavy stages are planned as two-person lifts rather than improvisation.
Will a flat pack sofa fit through my door once built?
That is exactly the question to settle before booking, not on the day. Measure the tightest turn on the route and tell us the sofa's assembled dimensions from the box — corner units often need building in the room they will live in for this reason. If the numbers look impossible, we will say so honestly and discuss the options rather than discover it with a sofa in the hallway.
If we move house, can the sofa be taken apart again?
With most click-together and flat pack sofa systems, yes — the same connectors come apart as they went together, and we can dismantle and reassemble it at the new address. Sofabed mechanisms are worth particular care when they move. Tell us when booking if a future move is likely, and keep the instructions and any spare hardware.
How much does sofa assembly cost?
A booking fee is paid when you book, labour is charged hourly and the rate depends on how soon you need the visit, and the full cost is quoted for your approval before work starts. Larger or more complex sofas simply take longer, which the quote reflects. If manufacturer replacement parts are needed, they are identified and quoted separately.
