Ovens are rugged appliances, but their electrical systems age like anything else, and faults show up as dead displays, ovens that cut out mid-cook, controls that behave erratically or elements that heat only sometimes. Because dozens of components share wiring and control signals, the difference between a cheap switch and a failed control board can look identical from the outside. Careful testing is what separates them.
Confirm the scope before anything else
If your oven is electric, every electrical aspect of it is within our competence to diagnose and, where safe and sensible, repair. If your oven is gas, the ignition, flame sensing, valves and burners are gas-side components that only a Gas Safe registered engineer may touch, and we never carry out gas work; we would assess safely within our electrical limits and refer the gas side to a trusted partner we work closely with. Dual-fuel cookers are both worlds in one box, and we are careful to keep the two clearly separated. Tell us the fuel type, brand and model when you book.
How we trace a fault
The method is systematic: start at the supply and work inwards. With the appliance safely isolated we confirm the circuit, the isolator and the connection point are sound, then test the internal wiring and terminal block for damage or overheating, followed by each switch, sensor and component on the affected circuit. We use proper electrical testing rather than visual inspection alone, because scorched-looking parts can still work and clean-looking parts can still be dead. As we go, we explain what each test is telling us, so you understand the diagnosis instead of receiving it as a verdict.
Faults we commonly find
Burnt or loose connections at the terminal block are a classic in ovens that died suddenly. Failed door switches, worn selector switches and faulty temperature sensors are all frequent and usually replaceable. Control boards and display modules fail too, especially after power surges, and there the question becomes parts availability and value for money. Intermittent faults, where the oven works one day and not the next, often come down to a connection that is on the verge of failing, and finding those takes patience and proper instruments.
What we repair and what we advise on
Where the fault is a replaceable component with parts available, we will quote the full repair cost, including the part, and carry it out once you approve. Where the fault is a costly board on an ageing oven, we will give you an honest comparison between repair and replacement, including the risk that an old appliance develops its next fault soon after. We do not sell repairs that make no sense, and nothing proceeds without your approval of the quoted price.
Safety notes for the meantime
Stop using an oven that trips the electrics repeatedly, smells of burning, buzzes oddly or shows scorch marks, and leave it switched off at the isolator until assessed. Never open an oven's casing or probe components yourself; mains electricity inside these appliances is unforgiving. If the oven is gas and you ever smell gas, follow the emergency steps and call the National Gas Emergency Service on 0800 111 999 from outside the property.
Booking your diagnosis
Send us your postcode, the oven's make, model and fuel type, and a precise description of the fault, including anything that seems to trigger or relieve it. We will arrange a visit, trace the fault properly and give you a clear, approved price before any work begins.
Photographs of any display message or error, taken before the visit, are also useful. Where the fault appears only under specific conditions, reproducing those details in your description helps us plan the testing order before we arrive.
How the price works
We charge a booking fee to hold your slot, then an hourly rate for the work itself. The fee changes with how soon you need us; the hourly rate changes with the slot you choose. You approve the price before we start, so there is no surprise on the invoice.

We diagnose on site
The engineer confirms the cause and tells you what the job involves and how long it should take.
You approve, we work
Nothing goes ahead until you agree the price. Labour is then charged per hour at your slot rate.
Electrical faults inside an oven can look alarming but often come down to a specific, identifiable component. The trick is tracing rather than guessing. Our engineer isolates the appliance, works through the electrical circuits systematically, and reports back with a clear diagnosis and a quoted price, always staying strictly within electrical competence and away from any gas-side work.

Job: Tumble Dryer Not Starting Cycle
Good job, slightly late
Solid work. Hourly rate feels fair for the amount of work involved and everything was tested before they left. Would book again.
Job: Toaster Not Working
No mess left behind
Really straightforward. It had been bothering us for weeks; diagnosed properly, fixed the same visit, and the price was exactly what was explained when booking. Can not fault it.

Questions people ask about oven electrical fault
Straight answers to the things customers ask most often before booking.
Is an oven electrical fault something I can fix myself?
We advise against DIY inside an oven. Mains-voltage components, capacitors that can hold charge and model-specific parts make it a job for a competent engineer. Safe homeowner checks are limited to the isolator, the consumer unit and the settings.
What does the electrical diagnosis involve?
We isolate the appliance and test the supply path, wiring and terminal block, then each switch, sensor and component on the affected circuit using proper instruments. You get an explanation of the fault and a written quote before any repair starts.
My gas oven's electrics seem faulty. Can you help?
We can assess the electrical parts that are safely within our competence, such as the supply and power wiring, but never any gas component. Ignition, valves and flame sensing go to a trusted Gas Safe registered engineer we work closely with, and we will arrange that referral.
The fault is intermittent. Can you still find it?
Often yes, though it can take more testing. Intermittent faults usually trace back to a connection or component on the edge of failure, and instruments plus patience find them. Describe exactly when it works and fails, as that pattern is a valuable clue.
How is the work priced?
You pay a booking fee when you book, and the hourly labour rate depends on how soon you need the visit, as shorter notice costs more. After diagnosis we quote the full cost including any parts, and no work starts until you have approved that quote.
