Putting a dishwasher back is often treated as the easy part of a kitchen job, and it is where a surprising number of leaks begin. The machine has been disconnected, moved and possibly stored on its side. Hoses have been drained, seals have dried, and the space it is going back into may not be identical to the one it left.

Before it goes back in

  • check the machine for transit damage, especially the door, the plinth and the rear connections
  • inspect the fill and drain hoses for splits, hardening or kinks from storage
  • check the washers at the fill connection, replacing hardened ones
  • confirm the drain hose has not been cut short or lost its spigot end
  • check the aperture and flooring have not changed height
  • confirm the supply valve and waste connection are as they were

A hose stored coiled in a cold garage can harden and crack. A washer left dry for months can weep on first use. Both are cheap to replace before the machine is pushed home and awkward afterwards.

If the machine was stored on its side

Dishwashers can generally be moved on their side, but they should be stood upright for a period before being run, so any water in the sump and the pump settles where it belongs. Running one immediately after it has been on its side can cause the pump to cavitate or the level sensor to misread. We will let it stand before the first cycle.

Reconnection

The fill hose goes to the cold supply with an isolating valve, with a fresh or inspected washer at the union. The drain hose goes to the spigot or standpipe at the correct height with an air break. The plug or spur is connected to the existing point. We check each connection for tightness and alignment before the machine goes back.

Why the space may not match

A new floor changes the height under the worktop. New units change the depth. A new worktop may reduce clearance. A machine that fitted before a refit can fail to go back by a few millimetres, and the answer is usually adjusting the feet rather than forcing it.

If the machine will not go back because the aperture has genuinely changed, that is a separate piece of work, and we will say so rather than leaving it half in.

Testing before it is fully home

Where access allows, we run a short cycle with the machine part-way out so any leak at the connections is visible rather than hidden behind the plinth. Then we push it home, check stability, and confirm the door opens clear.

This staged test is the single most useful habit in a reinstallation, and it is why a reinstall is not simply a five-minute push back.

What is not included

We reconnect to existing services. We do not alter pipework, run new waste routes, cut worktops or modify units. If the refit has moved the services, that work comes first and is a separate trade. We also do not repair faults found during reinstallation as part of the same visit unless they are minor and within the agreed scope; we will quote them.

Aftercare

Check under the sink a day after the machine is back in use. Run a couple of normal cycles and watch the plinth area for damp. Confirm the machine is level and does not rock, since a twisted tub will leak at the door over time.

Booking

Tell us why the machine was removed, how long it has been out, how it was stored, and whether the kitchen layout has changed. Book online, with the booking fee paid at booking; the hourly labour rate depends on how soon you need the visit, and the full cost is quoted and approved by you before work starts.

How the price works

We charge a booking fee to hold your slot, then an hourly rate for the work itself. The fee changes with how soon you need us; the hourly rate changes with the slot you choose. You approve the price before we start, so there is no surprise on the invoice.

£25 booking fee

then £85 per hour of labour

Best value. Book the slot now, pay the smallest booking fee.

Booked within 48 hours

£100 booking fee

then £65 per hour of labour

For jobs that can wait a day or two but not a fortnight.

Urgent problems: standing water, no heat, no power, leaks.

1

Book the slot

Choose the window that suits you and pay the booking fee. That holds your place in the diary.

2

We diagnose on site

The engineer confirms the cause and tells you what the job involves and how long it should take.

3

You approve, we work

Nothing goes ahead until you agree the price. Labour is then charged per hour at your slot rate.

Reinstalling a dishwasher that has been out for flooring, a kitchen refit or a house move is a different job from fitting a new one, because the machine has history. Hoses may have hardened, the old connections may not line up, and something may have been damaged in transit. Checking before it goes back saves pulling it out again.

What our customers say about our home appliances service

4.8 out of 5 from 14 reviews

Exactly what was quoted

What I appreciated was being told what was actually wrong before anyone started. Sorted in under 27 minutes and the invoice matched the quote to the penny.

Job: Tumble Dryer Not Starting Cycle

Good job, slightly late

Solid work. Hourly rate feels fair for the amount of work involved and everything was tested before they left. Would book again.

Job: Toaster Not Working

No mess left behind

Really straightforward. It had been bothering us for weeks; diagnosed properly, fixed the same visit, and the price was exactly what was explained when booking. Can not fault it.

Questions people ask about dishwasher reinstallation

Straight answers to the things customers ask most often before booking.

The machine was stored on its side. Is that a problem?

It can be if it is run immediately. Stand it upright for a period before the first cycle so water in the sump and pump settles. Tell us how it was stored when you book.

Do I need new hoses after a move?

Not always, but they should be inspected. Hoses that have hardened, cracked or lost their washers should be replaced before reconnection rather than after a leak appears.

It won't fit back under the worktop after the new floor. What now?

Often the feet can be adjusted enough to gain the clearance. If the aperture has genuinely changed, that is separate work and we will tell you rather than forcing the machine into a space it does not fit.

Will you test it before pushing it back in?

Where access allows, yes. We run a short cycle with the machine part-way out so leaks at the connections are visible rather than hidden behind the plinth.

What does a reinstallation cost?

The booking fee is paid when you book. The hourly labour rate depends on how soon you need the visit. We quote the full cost and you approve it before work starts, and any replacement hoses or washers are identified and quoted separately.
