An intercom repair visit is really a diagnosis visit that ends in a repair, and the order matters. Replacing components until the symptom stops is how systems end up with new faults layered on old ones. We test, identify, quote and then repair — in that order.

The faults we handle

We repair the full range of door entry problems: handsets with no sound, distorted audio or one-way speech; monitors and screens that are dark, frozen or unresponsive; cameras producing blurry or degraded images; doors that will not release or release intermittently; keypads and access codes that have stopped working; power failures and tripping supplies; and wiring faults with symptoms that mimic everything else. We work on wired and wireless systems, audio and video, in houses and flats.

How the visit works

We start by reproducing the fault and mapping its shape: does it affect one handset or the whole system, one flat or many, all the time or intermittently, worse in wet weather or after frost? The pattern points to where the cause sits — your equipment, shared equipment, the cabling or the power. We then test along the relevant path with proper instruments: handsets and hookswitches, monitors and cameras, release circuits and locks, keypads and controllers, connections and cable runs. Once the cause is identified we explain it plainly, quote the repair with parts itemised separately, and carry out the work only once you have approved the full cost.

How we charge for repairs

The visit's structure keeps pricing honest: diagnosis first, then a written quote, then repair with your approval. You are never paying for parts swapped in the dark. If the fault is found quickly, the visit costs less; if it is a wiring fault that needs tracing, the quote reflects the realistic work involved and you see it before committing. Equipment and parts are always itemised separately from labour, so you can see exactly what each element costs and make informed choices about repair versus replacement.

Shared systems and permissions

In flats and shared buildings, the entrance panel, riser wiring and communal supply belong to the building, not to your flat — work on them normally needs your landlord's, agent's or housing association's permission, and we will help you establish what is needed before attending. We never force communal doors or bypass security to access equipment, and we never bypass locks to solve access problems. If the fault is communal, the diagnosis visit still tells you exactly what is wrong, which is valuable information whatever the management route.

What you can do before we arrive

Reseat a plug-in handset, check obvious volume and brightness settings, replace user-serviceable batteries, and note when the fault occurs — the pattern is genuinely useful. Beyond that, leave the system alone: opening handsets, remaking connections or adjusting strike plates tends to complicate diagnosis and can create additional faults.

Honest limits

We diagnose before quoting, so no repair cost or duration can be promised in advance. Intermittent faults can be the hardest to catch, and we will tell you honestly if a fault needs a second visit to reproduce. Where a system is old and parts are unavailable, we will say so and set out the repair-versus-replace options rather than take on work that cannot succeed. Repairs carry no guarantee against future faults or new failures elsewhere in an ageing system.

When to book and what to tell us

Book whenever the door entry system is not doing its job — and tell us the system's make if you know it, whether it is audio or video, how many properties share it, what exactly happens and when, and what has already been tried. That information speeds diagnosis and helps us arrive with likely parts.

Get in touch and we will find the real cause, quote it clearly, and repair it with your approval at every step.

How the price works

We charge a booking fee to hold your slot, then an hourly rate for the work itself. The fee changes with how soon you need us; the hourly rate changes with the slot you choose. You approve the price before we start, so there is no surprise on the invoice.

Booked 14+ days ahead

£25 booking fee

then £85 per hour of labour

Best value. Book the slot now, pay the smallest booking fee.

Booked within 48 hours

£100 booking fee

then £65 per hour of labour

For jobs that can wait a day or two but not a fortnight.

Same-day call-out

£220 booking fee

then £45 per hour of labour

Urgent problems: standing water, no heat, no power, leaks.

1

Book the slot

Choose the window that suits you and pay the booking fee. That holds your place in the diary.

2

We diagnose on site

The engineer confirms the cause and tells you what the job involves and how long it should take.

3

You approve, we work

Nothing goes ahead until you agree the price. Labour is then charged per hour at your slot rate.

Intercom faults arrive in many disguises: no sound, no picture, a door that will not release, a keypad that ignores you. Whatever the presentation, our repair visit starts the same way — systematic diagnosis to find the actual cause — and ends with a quote you approve before any repair is carried out. No guesswork, no parts-swapping at your expense.

What our customers say about our Security & CCTV service

5 out of 5 from 7 reviews

Would use again

Third time we have used Maintenance Men, and the same experience each time: agreed price, proper explanation, job done in one visit. The hourly rate is fair for the standard of work.

Job: CCTV Installation

Second time we have used them

I had put off sorting this for months because I expected a runaround. Quoted the booking fee plus hourly rate upfront, stuck to it, and actually found the underlying cause rather than just clearing the symptom. Worked neatly and hoovered up afterwards.

Job: Backup Battery Fault

Exactly what was quoted

What I appreciated was being told what was actually wrong before anyone started. Sorted in under 56 minutes and the invoice matched the quote to the penny.

Job: Alarm Repair Service

Questions people ask about intercom repair service

Straight answers to the things customers ask most often before booking.

Is there anything DIY I should try before booking a repair?

Reseat a plug-in handset, check volume and brightness settings, replace user-serviceable batteries, and note when the fault happens. Do not open handsets or panels or remake wiring — that usually adds faults and makes proper diagnosis harder.

What happens during an intercom repair visit?

We reproduce and map the fault, test the relevant path — handset, panel, wiring, power, lock — with proper instruments, identify the specific cause, and quote the repair with parts itemised separately. Work only starts once you have approved the full cost.

Will you repair faults in our block's shared system?

We can, but communal equipment normally needs your landlord's, agent's or housing association's permission first, and we will help establish what approvals are needed. We never force doors or bypass security to access shared equipment.

What if my intercom is too old to repair?

We will say so honestly if parts are unavailable or faults are system-wide, and set out the repair-versus-replacement options with costs. An upgrade is quoted as a separate project after a survey — we never talk you into one before the diagnosis justifies it.

How much does an intercom repair cost?

You pay a booking fee when you book, and labour is charged hourly at a rate that depends on how soon you need the visit. After diagnosis the full cost of the repair is quoted and approved before work starts, with parts quoted separately.
