Installing a washing machine looks simple until it is not: a crimped hose, an unlevel machine, a drain hose that siphons or an old tap that weeps under mains pressure all turn a quick fit into a callback. We install machines on existing services with the checks that prevent those problems, and we test the result properly before leaving – so your first wash is uneventful in the best way.

What a proper installation involves

Before anything is connected, we establish compatibility: does the machine match the existing cold supply, the waste arrangement and the space? We check the tap and hose condition, the standpipe or under-sink spigot, the floor's solidity and the machine's access route – doorways and turns claim more machines than people expect. Positioning matters: enough clearance behind for hoses without kinks, level feet on a solid floor, and the door able to open fully. We connect the inlet hose with a sound washer, route the drain hose correctly to prevent siphoning and self-draining, remove transit bolts if the machine is new, and level the machine so it does not walk. Finally, we run a test cycle and check every connection under real conditions.

What we need from you

The machine must be on site, accessible and unpacked by the time we arrive, with the old machine removed or its removal agreed separately. Existing services must be in reasonable condition – a seized tap, a corroded valve or a blocked standpipe may need attention before connection, and we will explain anything we find rather than connecting to it regardless. Keep the route from door to final position clear. If your machine needs a new circuit, a gas connection (not applicable to washers, but worth stating), or plumbing alterations beyond the existing connection point, that is beyond a standard installation and we will explain the options honestly rather than improvise.

Limits and honest scope

We connect to existing, accessible services only. We do not carry out new plumbing installations, move standpipes, or alter household pipework beyond the machine's own connections – if that is needed, we will tell you what it involves so you can arrange it. If the existing tap or waste is faulty, we will identify the problem and quote separately, or recommend the right trade if it is outside our scope. We do not promise that a single appointment always covers old-machine removal plus installation plus any surprises behind the machine; where extra work emerges, it is quoted and approved before proceeding.

Aftercare for a long-lasting install

Leave a small gap behind the machine rather than pushing it hard against the wall, so hoses are never crushed. Check occasionally that connections stay dry and the machine stays level, especially after the first few weeks. Keep the tap accessible so it can be closed quickly if a hose ever fails – and consider a flood-prevention hose if the machine sits where a leak would be costly. Keep the transit bolts if the machine may ever be moved again; they go back in for transport.

Booking your installation

Contact Maintenance Men by phone or the website with the machine's make and model, whether it is new or being reconnected, whether an old machine needs removing, and what services exist at the position – standpipe or under-sink, and which taps. The booking fee is paid when you book, the hourly labour rate depends on how soon you need the visit, and the full cost is quoted and approved before work starts. If you are unsure whether your position is ready, ask when booking and we will tell you what to check beforehand.

How the price works

We charge a booking fee to hold your slot, then an hourly rate for the work itself. The fee changes with how soon you need us; the hourly rate changes with the slot you choose. You approve the price before we start, so there is no surprise on the invoice.

Booked 14+ days ahead

£25 booking fee

then £85 per hour of labour

Best value. Book the slot now, pay the smallest booking fee.

Booked within 48 hours

£100 booking fee

then £65 per hour of labour

For jobs that can wait a day or two but not a fortnight.

Same-day call-out

£220 booking fee

then £45 per hour of labour

Urgent problems: standing water, no heat, no power, leaks.

1

Book the slot

Choose the window that suits you and pay the booking fee. That holds your place in the diary.

2

We diagnose on site

The engineer confirms the cause and tells you what the job involves and how long it should take.

3

You approve, we work

Nothing goes ahead until you agree the price. Labour is then charged per hour at your slot rate.

A badly installed washing machine leaks, walks and trips its electrics; a well-installed one is barely noticed for years. We install your machine on existing connections with the checks that matter – level feet, hose routing, anti-flood basics and a proper test cycle – so it works from the first wash.

What our customers say about our home appliances service

4.8 out of 5 from 14 reviews

Exactly what was quoted

What I appreciated was being told what was actually wrong before anyone started. Sorted in under 27 minutes and the invoice matched the quote to the penny.

Job: Tumble Dryer Not Starting Cycle

Good job, slightly late

Solid work. Hourly rate feels fair for the amount of work involved and everything was tested before they left. Would book again.

Job: Toaster Not Working

No mess left behind

Really straightforward. It had been bothering us for weeks; diagnosed properly, fixed the same visit, and the price was exactly what was explained when booking. Can not fault it.

Questions people ask about washing machine installation

Straight answers to the things customers ask most often before booking.

Do I need to do anything before the engineer arrives?

Yes, a few things: have the machine on site, unpacked and accessible, clear the route from the door, and remove or arrange removal of the old machine unless agreed otherwise. Also check you know where the machine's water tap is. Good access is the single biggest time-saver.

Will you connect to my existing plumbing?

Yes – we connect machines to existing, accessible cold supply and waste connections, check their condition, and test the result with a full cycle. We do not install new plumbing or alter household pipework; if that is needed we will explain it so you can arrange the right trade.

What if the old tap or standpipe is faulty?

We will identify the problem and explain it before connecting anything. Minor issues like a worn washer can often be quoted and fixed on the visit with your approval; bigger plumbing matters may fall outside a standard installation, and we will say so plainly rather than bodge a connection onto a failing fitting.

Do you remove the transit bolts on a new machine?

Yes – transit bolts must come out before the machine is used, and leaving them in causes violent vibration and damage. We remove them, keep them for you in case the machine is moved again, and level the machine properly so it does not walk during spins.

How much does installation cost?

You pay a booking fee when you book, and the hourly labour rate depends on how soon you need the visit, so more notice means a better rate. The full cost is quoted and approved before work starts. If extra work emerges, such as a faulty tap, it is quoted separately before proceeding.
