What a worn seal costs you
The seal is the only thing standing between your cold cabinet and a warm kitchen. When it hardens, tears, warps or packs flat, the fridge continuously loses cold air, so it cools longer and more often, wears its compressor faster, builds frost at the leak line and pushes your electricity bill up. The symptoms are easy to spot once you know them: condensation or ice around the door edge, a cabinet that never quite holds temperature, and a fridge that seems to run all the time.
Seals also fail invisibly — a slight twist, or a section that has quietly unseated from its channel, leaks just as surely as a tear.
How we test the seal
The engineer checks the seal visually and physically: torn or flattened sections, mould in the folds, and grip around the full perimeter using the paper-pull test. We check the door closes under its own weight and holds shut, because a sagging hinge can masquerade as a bad seal — and if the door geometry is wrong, a new seal alone will not fix it. We also confirm the cabinet is level, since tilt affects how the door meets the gasket.
Where the seal itself has failed, we fit the model-correct replacement. Seals are specific to make and model, so we identify the right part and quote it separately, with availability depending on the manufacturer. Fitting involves removing the old gasket, seating the new one evenly around the door and checking the closure all round — a badly fitted seal leaks as badly as a worn one.
What you can check yourself
Run your hand slowly around the closed door edge feeling for escaping cold air. Close the door on a sheet of paper: it should pull out with noticeable resistance at every point — any spot where it slides freely is leaking. Look for tears, flattened patches or mould, and clean the seal with warm soapy water; grime alone can stiffen a healthy seal. If the door swings open on its own, the underlying cause is likely the level or hinges rather than the seal, and we would want to check those too.
Not just seals
While we are there, we check the doors close and hold correctly, the cabinet stands level, and the hinges are sound. Replacing a seal on a sagging door wastes the part, so we make sure the whole closing mechanism is right, not just the rubber. If a hinge also needs replacing, we identify the correct part and quote it separately.
Aftercare
Once the new seal is fitted, keep it clean with warm soapy water and avoid slamming the door, which works the gasket loose over time. Do not lean on an open door or overfill the door bins — both pull the seal out of shape. A quick paper test every few months catches a failing seal early, while it is still a cheap fix. Keep door bins from overloading, because heavy bottles pulling on a closed door stretch a new gasket out of shape over months.
Booking your visit
Call or use our contact form with the brand and model number — the model plate is usually inside the cabinet at the side or rear — and where you have noticed leaks, frost or condensation. If you have already tried a paper test, tell us where it failed. A booking fee is paid when you book, the hourly labour rate depends on how soon you need the visit, and the full cost is quoted and approved before any work begins.
How the price works
We charge a booking fee to hold your slot, then an hourly rate for the work itself. The fee changes with how soon you need us; the hourly rate changes with the slot you choose. You approve the price before we start, so there is no surprise on the invoice.

We diagnose on site
The engineer confirms the cause and tells you what the job involves and how long it should take.
You approve, we work
Nothing goes ahead until you agree the price. Labour is then charged per hour at your slot rate.
A worn door seal is invisible from across the kitchen but expensive to ignore: warm air leaks in around the clock, the compressor runs overtime and frost builds at the door line. Our visit confirms whether the seal is the fault, fits the correct replacement for your model, and makes sure the door closes and grips properly before we leave.

Solid work. Hourly rate feels fair for the amount of work involved and everything was tested before they left. Would book again.
Job: Toaster Not Working

Really straightforward. It had been bothering us for weeks; diagnosed properly, fixed the same visit, and the price was exactly what was explained when booking. Can not fault it.

Questions people ask about worn door seal
Straight answers to the things customers ask most often before booking.
How do I know my door seal needs replacing?
Look for tears, flattened or hardened sections and mould, and do the paper test — a sheet closed in the door should pull out with resistance all the way round. Ice or condensation on the door edge is another strong sign.
Can I just clean the seal instead of replacing it?
Cleaning with warm soapy water is always worth trying first — grime stiffens seals and weakens grip. If the paper test still fails after cleaning, the seal or the door alignment needs attention.
Are fridge door seals a standard size?
No — seals are specific to the make and model. That is why we identify the correct part for your appliance and quote it separately, with availability depending on the manufacturer.
Why does frost form around my door seal?
Warm humid air leaking through a gap condenses and freezes at the cold door line. Fixing the seal or the door alignment stops the leak and the frost together.
How much does seal replacement cost?
A booking fee is paid when you book to secure the appointment. Labour is at an hourly rate that depends on how soon you need the visit, and the full cost is quoted and approved before work starts. The seal itself is identified for your model and quoted separately.
