A full garden clearance is different from a tidy-up: the aim is not to make the garden neater but to take it back to ground you can actually work with. That means everything that has no place in the garden's future comes out — overgrown shrubs, self-seeded saplings, bramble, ivy, dead planting, buried debris, the retired trampoline and whatever else decades of postponement have left behind. Done properly it is a reset, and it is the job where experience and the right kit genuinely earn their keep.
Clearances come in many shapes
The commonest reason is a house move — either taking on a garden the previous owner lost interest in, or getting one presentable for sale or at the end of a tenancy. Landlords book clearances between tenancies; families book them after bereavement, when sorting a loved one's garden is the last thing anyone has the heart to do; and some gardens simply cross a line where maintenance is no longer realistic and a reset is cheaper than rescue. What all of these share is that the garden afterwards needs to be a workable blank slate — clear ground, clean edges, visible boundaries and nothing lurking at the bottom of the plot that will undo the work in a season.
The first visit: assessing what you actually have
Clearances are quoted on what we find, so we start by walking the plot with you and building a real picture: the volume of growth and waste, what is growing where, which items — sheds, ponds, old paving — are staying or going, what access is like for barrows and waste runs, and whether there is anything in the jungle that needs care. Dense overgrowth is exactly where hazards hide: trip hazards, broken glass, old metal, wasp nests and, in season, nesting birds. We check thoroughly before cutting into anything — an active nest means that patch is left alone until the birds have fledged, and we work around it. We will also flag honestly if the clearance crosses into specialist territory: very large trees, structures that need dismantling by a professional, or materials we suspect might contain asbestos, which are not garden waste and must be handled by licensed specialists.
The clearance itself
The work goes in a deliberate order: hazardous and obstructive material first, then the big cutting-back — shrubs, bramble and saplings cut to the stump or dug out where regrowth would be a nuisance — then the fine clearing of weeds, leaves and debris, then the sweep-up and final rake. Everything removed is either stacked where you want it or taken away, and green waste disposal is always agreed in advance and included in the quote rather than discovered at the end. Where you want to keep something — a log pile for wildlife, cuttings for compost, a plant worth transplanting — we work around it. By the end of a clearance the ground should be clean enough to mow, measure and plan over.
One-off reset or the start of maintenance
A clearance is a one-off job, and it is worth being clear about what it does not do: it does not keep the garden clear. Growth resumes, and within a season the garden starts slipping back unless something maintains it. Some customers book a clearance, take it from there themselves; others roll straight into a regular maintenance round, which is nearly always easier and cheaper than letting it run wild again. We will give you an honest view of which suits your garden, and it is entirely your call.
How to book
Book by phone or website, giving a rough idea of the garden's size, how overgrown it is, what access is like and whether waste should be taken away. You pay a booking fee when you book, labour is charged hourly at a rate that depends on how soon you need the visit, and the full cost is quoted and approved before we start, with disposal arrangements agreed in advance as part of the plan.
How the price works
We charge a booking fee to hold your slot, then an hourly rate for the work itself. The fee changes with how soon you need us; the hourly rate changes with the slot you choose. You approve the price before we start, so there is no surprise on the invoice.

We diagnose on site
The engineer confirms the cause and tells you what the job involves and how long it should take.
You approve, we work
Nothing goes ahead until you agree the price. Labour is then charged per hour at your slot rate.
Whether you have inherited a jungle with a new house, cleared a tenant's garden, or finally decided a decade of bramble has to go, a full clearance is the heaviest lifting job in gardening — and the most satisfying. One focused, honest clear-out turns an unusable garden into usable ground, and everything removed goes where you have agreed it should.
What our customers say about our outdoor & exterior service
4.6 out of 5 from 10 reviews
Sorted the same day
Rang in the morning and they got to us in Wolverhampton by early afternoon. Very clear about what needed doing, what it would cost and what could wait. No pressure to add extras. Exactly the sort of tradesperson you want.
Job: Uneven Shed Base
Turned up when they said
Turned up in the window they promised, walked me through the options (turns out the previous installer had left the pipework awkward to get to), then cracked on. Everything was tested before they left. No mess, no drama, no surprise on the bill.
Job: Water-Damaged Patio
Good work, poor communication
Work itself was fine and tidy. Communication beforehand was patchy — I did not get the confirmation message and had to ring to check the slot. Would still use again.
Job: Sinking Driveway

Questions people ask about garden clearance
Straight answers to the things customers ask most often before booking.
Could we clear the garden ourselves over a few weekends?
For a moderately overgrown garden, yes — many people do, and it is honest work. A genuinely overgrown plot, though, usually hides months of work inside it: heavy cutting, deep roots, buried junk and a small mountain of waste that still has to go somewhere. Between the tools, the disposal runs and the physical toll, a professional clearance is often quicker and not much dearer than it looks from the patio.
What happens on the first clearance visit?
We walk the garden with you, assess the volume of growth and waste, identify what stays and what goes, check for hazards including nesting birds in the season, and agree the plan and the disposal arrangements. On straightforward jobs the clearance starts the same visit; on larger ones we quote the full job and schedule it properly.
Is there anything you would not clear away?
Yes, a few things. Asbestos-suspect material such as old shed roofs and cement sheets is not garden waste and must be tested and removed by licensed specialists — we stop and flag it rather than break it. Very large tree work, structures needing professional dismantling and any active bird nests have their own boundaries too, and we will explain exactly what we can do around each.
Will you take the waste away, and does it cost extra?
Disposal is agreed with you before we start and built into the quote, so you know exactly what removal costs before committing. If you would rather keep cuttings for compost or burn piles where permitted, we stack them neatly instead. What we will not do is arrive, clear and then negotiate over the waste — it is part of the plan from the start.
How much does a full garden clearance cost?
You pay a booking fee when you book, and labour is charged hourly at a rate that depends on how soon you need the visit. Because every garden differs, the full cost is quoted and approved before we start, reflecting the volume of growth and waste, the access and the disposal arrangements — so there are no surprises when the garden is bare.
