What good new pipework has to do

A new run has four jobs: deliver adequate flow to every outlet, stay quiet in use, survive without leaking, and remain serviceable. Those four requirements drive everything else. Under-sized pipe gives weak showers and slow filling baths, and no amount of pump will fully fix it. Poorly clipped pipe transmits pump and valve noise into the structure. Unsupported joints work loose. And a run with no isolation valve means every future repair involves draining more of the house than it should.

Why shortcuts show up later

Most problems with new pipework are installation problems, not material problems. A run squeezed through a notch that is too shallow, or pulled tight around a bend, puts stress on a joint that shows as a weep months later. Pipe laid against a joist without clips will knock when a valve shuts. Hot and cold runs laid too close together let the cold draw warmth, which shows up as lukewarm water at a basin. And a route chosen for speed rather than access means the next plumber cuts a hole in a finished ceiling. None of these are visible on the day the job is signed off.

How we plan and diagnose

Before installing anything we look at the whole picture: what the new outlets are, how far they are from the supply, what the incoming pressure and flow actually are, and what route avoids cold spaces and structural members. We measure pressure and flow at the source rather than assuming, because a run sized for a good mains supply will underperform badly on a weak one. We agree the route with you, mark it, and check for cables, joists and existing services before cutting anything.

How we install it

We isolate the supply, then run the pipe in copper or plastic to suit the specification — correctly sized for the outlets, clipped at proper intervals, and sleeved where it passes through masonry or a cavity. Hot and cold runs are kept apart and, where they must run close, the cold is insulated. We fit isolation valves so each new leg can be isolated without draining the system, and we fit drain points where they will be useful. Joints are made with the correct fittings for the material, and the run is tested under pressure before any boxing, plastering or flooring goes back. Finally we flush the new pipework through before it is connected to taps or appliances, then check flow at every outlet.

Getting it right for the long term

Once installed, keep a simple record: photographs of the route before it was closed up, plus a note of where the isolation valves and any drain points are. That single habit saves hours on any future repair. Lag any run passing through a cold space, keep the system pressure within the manufacturer's range, and if you are renovating again, check the existing pipework's capacity before adding more outlets to it — the original run may already be near its limit. If the system already needs a low water pressure fix, deal with that before adding outlets to it.

When to call us

Talk to us at the planning stage if you are adding a bathroom, moving a kitchen, converting a loft or building an extension — that is when changes are cheap. Call also if a new installation has left you with weak flow, noisy pipes or a joint that weeps, and if you are buying a property where the pipework has been altered repeatedly and you want to know what you are inheriting.

Book a call-out

Send floor plans or a rough sketch with the new outlet positions marked, and we can advise on routing and sizing before the first day on site.

You approve, we work

Nothing goes ahead until you agree the price. Labour is then charged per hour at your slot rate.

New pipework is the part of a renovation that disappears behind plasterboard and flooring, so it pays to get it right first time. We plan the route, size the runs for the outlets they serve, fix and insulate properly, and pressure-test before anything is closed up.

Questions people ask about new pipe installation

Straight answers to the things customers ask most often before booking.

Can you install pipework while other trades are working?

Yes, with a little sequencing. First fix usually happens after the structural work and before plastering, which is why planning the route early matters. We agree access and timings with you or your builder so we are not chasing a finished wall.

What size pipe will my new bathroom need?

It depends on the incoming flow and the distance from the supply, but outlets such as a bath filler or a shower with a large head need more capacity than a basin. We measure pressure and flow at the source and size accordingly rather than copying what was there before.

Will new pipework be noisy?

It should not be. Noise usually comes from poor clipping, pipe pulled tight around bends, or oversized flow through an undersized run. We clip at correct intervals, allow for movement, and keep hot and cold apart so the installation stays quiet in normal use.

Do you test before the walls are closed?

Always. The new run is pressure-tested and flushed before any boxing, plastering or flooring goes back, and we check flow at every outlet it serves. Once it is buried, a fault costs far more to find, so testing at that stage is not optional.

Can you work to a building project's schedule?

Yes, provided we know the dates in advance. We book the first and second fix separately around your programme, and we will tell you honestly if a requested date is not achievable rather than turning up late and holding up other trades.
