Why big screens are a different job
Weight is only half of it. A large screen also has leverage — a big panel on an arm acts like a lever prying at its fixings, so the loads on the wall plate are much higher than the screen's weight alone suggests. Add the difficulty of lifting a wide, awkward panel at arm's length, and it is clear why large-screen mounting deserves more time and more caution than a standard job. We book longer visits for exactly this reason.
Assessing the wall for a heavy load
The heavier the screen, the less a marginal wall can bluff its way through. We identify the substrate before anything is drilled: solid brick and block carry a lot when fixed correctly, plasterboard needs to load onto the timber frame behind it, and anything unusual — a chimney breast with an old flue, a boxed-in duct, a dry-lined wall — gets checked properly. We probe where the fixings will land and look for signs of hidden services such as socket spurs, cable routes and pipework. Detection helps, but no scan guarantees what is behind the plaster, so we verify carefully and never drill blind. If the wall cannot take the load safely at the position you want, we will say so early and talk about reinforcing, repositioning or a different solution rather than press on.
Brackets and fixings for size and weight
Large screens need brackets rated well above the panel's weight, and the hardware matters as much as the bracket: the right plugs or anchors for the substrate, enough of them, and fixings that grip rather than crush. You normally supply the television and bracket unless we have agreed otherwise, and we check the combination before fitting — if the bracket or the fixings in the box are not right for the wall, we will say so and quote suitable replacements separately instead of improvising.
The lift: planned, not improvised
This is the part people underestimate. A large panel is heavy, unwieldy and often lifted above shoulder height to reach the wall plate. We plan the lift in advance — clear floor space, agreed route, a stable surface ready — and for most large screens we ask you to arrange a second pair of hands, which we flag when you book. Rushing a lift is how screens get cracked and walls get kicked; we would rather spend five minutes preparing than explain a broken panel.
Position, tilt and viewing comfort
A big screen dominates a room, so height and tilt matter more, not less. We agree the height with you — for most rooms, seated eye level beats a picture hung high — mark the position with a level, and fit the wall plate so the panel sits square. If the bracket tilts, we set it for your seating position and check the picture geometry once the screen is up.
Limits we work within
We will tell you plainly if a wall, bracket or position is not safe for the screen you have bought, and we will not fit it anyway. Cable concealment inside the wall is only done where access is agreed and it stays non-invasive — we do not alter electrical wiring, so any circuit work is for an electrician. And if structural questions come up, such as cracked masonry around a chimney breast, we will point you to a specialist rather than guess.
Booking and preparation
Same-day slots may be available for urgent jobs, but large screens benefit from a planned visit with time to prepare. Tell us the screen size, the bracket you have and the wall type when you book, so we can flag the second-person question and any hardware needs before we arrive. You pay a booking fee on booking, labour is hourly at a rate that depends on how soon you need the visit, and the full cost is quoted and approved before work starts — with any extra fixings or reinforcement materials identified and quoted separately.
How the price works
We charge a booking fee to hold your slot, then an hourly rate for the work itself. The fee changes with how soon you need us; the hourly rate changes with the slot you choose. You approve the price before we start, so there is no surprise on the invoice.

We diagnose on site
The engineer confirms the cause and tells you what the job involves and how long it should take.
You approve, we work
Nothing goes ahead until you agree the price. Labour is then charged per hour at your slot rate.
A 65-inch screen is a different proposition from a bedroom television: more weight, more leverage, and no forgiveness for a weak fixing. We take large-screen jobs slowly on purpose, assessing the wall and bracket before anything is drilled, and planning the lift before the screen leaves its stand. The result is a big picture hung with the confidence to enjoy it.

Questions people ask about large tv wall mounting
Straight answers to the things customers ask most often before booking.
Can a large TV be mounted on any wall?
No, and we will tell you if yours is not suitable. Solid brick carries a big screen well when fixed correctly, but some plasterboard and dry-lined walls cannot take the load without reinforcement. We assess the wall first and, where a safe fixing is not possible, discuss repositioning or reinforcement rather than fitting it and hoping.
What do you look at before drilling into the wall?
We identify the wall construction, probe where the fixings will land and look for signs of concealed pipes, cables and flues. We also check the bracket's weight rating and the fixings supplied against the screen. Only when we are satisfied the fixing is safe do we drill — and we never drill blind on the strength of a scan alone.
Do I need to help lift the screen?
For most large screens we ask you to arrange a second pair of hands, because the panel is heavy and awkward at height and a rushed lift is how screens get broken. We flag this when you book and plan the lift before the screen leaves its stand, so it is a calm, two-person job on the day.
Can the cables be hidden inside the wall?
Only where access has been agreed in advance and the routing can be done without invasive work. The default is neat surface trunking, which works well and can be removed later. We never alter electrical wiring, so anything that touches the circuits is a job for a qualified electrician rather than this visit.
How does pricing work for a large screen?
You pay a booking fee when you book, and hourly labour at a rate that depends on how soon you need the visit. We quote the full job before starting and you approve it. Larger visits are booked with more time, and any fixings or reinforcement materials needed are identified and quoted separately.
