What This Job Covers
This is installation of heating pipework to an agreed plan. Typical examples include running flow and return to a new radiator position, replacing a corroded or leaking section with new pipe, altering a run that has been built over, or re-routing pipework to remove an awkward boxed section. The scope is defined before work starts, because pipework installation can expand indefinitely if the route and the connections are not settled first.
It does not cover gas pipework. Maintenance Men is not Gas Safe registered and never carries out gas work, so any gas pipe run, alteration or connection is Gas Safe territory and will be referred to a registered engineer. If your project involves moving a gas appliance or a gas supply, that part is handled separately by them.
Why Pipework Gets Replaced
Copper thins from the inside where inhibitor has been absent, and pinholes appear at bends and joints. Steel pipe rusts and can block solid. Microbore runs become brittle and are easily damaged by flooring work. Sometimes the pipe is sound but the layout is wrong: a dead leg that never heats, a run that crosses a doorway, or a radiator fed from the wrong side of the circuit. Replacement is also common when a room is refurbished and the old pipework is buried where it cannot stay.
The Survey Comes First
Before quoting, we look at the boiler connections, the existing circuit, the proposed route and the construction of the floors and walls. That survey establishes whether the route is feasible, what access is needed, whether the new run can be balanced into the existing system, and whether the boiler has capacity for an additional radiator. We also check the system's water quality, because installing new pipe into a sludged circuit is a false economy.
The output is a defined scope: pipe sizes and material, the route, the number of connections, the radiators or valves involved, and what making good is included. You see it before work is booked.
What the Work Involves
Installation usually means draining the affected part of the system, removing or isolating the old run, fitting new pipe with the appropriate joints, connecting to the existing circuit, then refilling, adding inhibitor, bleeding and balancing. Where a new radiator is being added, we fit the valves and brackets and commission it as part of the agreed scope. Floors may need lifting, ceilings may need small openings, and walls may need chasing if a concealed route is chosen. We agree which of those applies before starting.
We test the new pipework under pressure before refilling and running the system, then check every joint we have made and confirm the radiator heats correctly.
Time, Staging and Disruption
Four hours is a realistic estimate for a defined installation, but larger projects will take longer and may need to be staged across more than one visit. We will say so at quotation stage rather than discovering it mid-job. Heating will be off while the system is drained, so if the weather is cold we plan the work to minimise that period. A major installation is not completed in a single appointment, and we will not pretend otherwise.
What Is Not Included Unless Agreed
Making good decoration, plastering, tiling and flooring reinstatement are not automatic. We will tell you what we will refit and what you should arrange separately. New radiators, valves, filters and controls are quoted as parts, separately from labour. If the boiler needs upgrading to serve the new circuit, that is a separate conversation, and where gas work is involved it belongs with a Gas Safe registered engineer.
Limits and Honest Notes
Existing pipework can surprise everyone once a floor is open: unexpected routes, historic repairs, or corrosion beyond the visible section. If we find that, we stop and explain the options and cost before continuing. We cannot guarantee that new pipe will not reveal a weakness elsewhere in an old system, and we will say so if the circuit looks fragile.
Safety
We isolate and drain safely, keep water away from electrics, and test before restoring supply. We do not work on gas pipework or gas appliance components. If you smell gas at any point, avoid switches and flames, ventilate if safe, leave the property and call 0800 111 999.
Booking a Pipework Installation
Send photos of the area, the proposed route and your boiler make and model, and tell us what the new pipework is for. We cover the West Midlands and will survey before quoting. The booking fee is taken when booking, the hourly labour rate depends on how soon you need the visit, and we quote the full total for your approval before we begin.
How the price works
We charge a booking fee to hold your slot, then an hourly rate for the work itself. The fee changes with how soon you need us; the hourly rate changes with the slot you choose. You approve the price before we start, so there is no surprise on the invoice.

We diagnose on site
The engineer confirms the cause and tells you what the job involves and how long it should take.
You approve, we work
Nothing goes ahead until you agree the price. Labour is then charged per hour at your slot rate.
New pipework is sometimes the only sensible answer: a radiator in a room that never had one, a run that has corroded beyond repair, or a layout that no longer suits the house. This is planned work rather than a diagnostic visit, so it begins with a survey and a written scope. We will agree exactly what is being installed, where it runs and what making good is included before anyone lifts a floorboard.
What our customers say about our heating & radiators service
5 out of 5 from 10 reviews
Fast, tidy and friendly
Booked the £220 booking-fee slot on Tuesday and got a message confirming the time the same morning. The cause was explained, the price agreed before any work started, and the job was done in about 46 minutes. Clean and tidy when they left.
Job: No Heating from Boiler
Turned up when they said
What I appreciated was being told what was actually wrong before anyone started. Sorted in under 46 minutes and the invoice matched the quote to the penny.
Job: Expansion Vessel Fault
Exactly what was quoted
I had put off sorting this for months because I expected a runaround. Quoted the booking fee plus hourly rate upfront, stuck to it, and actually found the underlying cause rather than just clearing the symptom. Worked neatly and hoovered up afterwards.
Job: Airlock in Hot Water System

Questions people ask about heating pipework installation
Straight answers to the things customers ask most often before booking.
Can I install heating pipework myself?
It is technically possible for a competent DIYer, but it involves draining the system, correct pipe sizing, jointing that holds under pressure, and balancing afterwards. Mistakes tend to be expensive, and a poorly made joint can leak under a floor.
What is agreed before work starts?
The pipe sizes and material, the route, the connections, the radiators or valves involved, the access needed and what making good is included. You see the scope and the full cost before booking, so there are no surprises.
Do you install gas pipework?
No. Gas pipework is Gas Safe territory, and Maintenance Men is not Gas Safe registered. If your project needs a gas run altered or a gas appliance moved, that is handled by a registered engineer, separately from our water-side work.
Will my floors and walls be made good?
Only what is agreed in the scope. We will tell you what we will refit and what you should arrange, such as plastering, tiling or flooring. That is settled before work begins rather than afterwards.
How much will the installation cost?
The booking fee is paid when you book, and the hourly labour rate depends on how soon you need the visit. Larger installations may take more than one visit and are quoted in stages. You approve the full cost before work starts, and parts are quoted separately.
