Investigate Hot Water Problems When Radiators Stay Cold in Knowle
We assess the cylinder controls, hot-water demand and accessible circulation components to distinguish a heating-side fault from a wider system issue.

When hot water works but the heating does not, the system is responding differently to its two jobs. In a system with a cylinder, separate controls and valves can direct heat towards stored water or radiators; a timer, thermostat, pump or circulation problem may affect one path more than the other. Maintenance Men assesses suitable non-gas water-side and electrical components within competence. We do not service, open or repair gas boiler combustion components. If the evidence points to the gas side, we explain the boundary and refer that work to a trusted Gas Safe registered partner.
Clarify which function still responds
Note whether the cylinder gets hot as expected, whether any radiator warms, and whether the problem began after a timer change, power interruption or plumbing work. Check ordinary user controls only: make sure a familiar heating schedule is selected and note any displayed status. Do not remove a boiler cover, adjust a gas component or dismantle a valve. If one room differs from the rest, that may suggest a local radiator or branch issue; if every radiator is cold, the control or circulation path may be more central. A brief observation of whether the pump or valve makes a familiar sound can be useful, but do not touch hot pipes or exposed equipment.
Follow the separate demand paths
We identify the system arrangement and assess accessible heating controls, thermostats, pumps, valves and water-side circulation where suitable. The checks consider whether the heating demand appears to reach the relevant control and whether heat is being directed through the radiator circuit. We can also check for visible leaks or other water-side signs that may affect circulation. A hot-water system working does not mean the boiler’s gas operation is safe or that we should open it. We never inspect gas valves, burners, flues or combustion. If a safe assessment indicates possible gas-side involvement, we stop and arrange a Gas Safe referral.
Repair options depend on the affected circuit
A control schedule, valve actuator, pump, air or circulation restriction can each create cold radiators while hot water continues. We explain which possibilities fit the findings and what remains uncertain. Where a component needs replacement, model and connection compatibility must be confirmed; parts or materials are identified and quoted separately. Some systems need balancing or wider pipework work, which may require additional time and a separate staged quote. We do not promise a complete heating repair based only on the fact that hot water works. Any proposed work is explained and the full cost approved before it begins.
Keep the system safe and avoid guesswork
Do not force a valve, remove a boiler casing or keep resetting a tripping electrical control. If a radiator or pipe is leaking, protect the area if safe and keep water away from electrical equipment. Avoid bleeding radiators unless you know the system procedure and can safely manage pressure and hot water; changing pressure without understanding the arrangement can create another fault. If you smell gas, do not use switches, appliances or flames. Open doors and windows if safe, leave the property, and call 0800 111 999 from outside; this is an emergency, not a normal booking.
Book an assessment of the heating side
Tell us which rooms and radiators are affected, whether hot water is stored in a cylinder, when the heating last worked and any visible control display or recent changes. Book online and do not remove covers to obtain model information. The booking fee is paid when booking. The hourly labour rate depends on how soon you need the visit; we quote the full cost and obtain approval before work starts. Parts and materials may be quoted separately. If gas-side work is required, our trusted Gas Safe partner assesses and quotes that directly.
Book online for a non-gas heating and circulation assessment, and include which radiators remain cold while hot water works.
How the price works
We charge a booking fee to hold your slot, then an hourly rate for the work itself. The fee changes with how soon you need us; the hourly rate changes with the slot you choose. You approve the price before we start, so there is no surprise on the invoice.

We diagnose on site
The engineer confirms the cause and tells you what the job involves and how long it should take.
You approve, we work
Nothing goes ahead until you agree the price. Labour is then charged per hour at your slot rate.
Hot water working while radiators remain cold suggests the two demands may be behaving differently, but it does not identify a failed part. We assess suitable controls, pumps, valves and water-side circulation and explain what the evidence shows. Gas or combustion work is outside our scope and is referred to a trusted Gas Safe partner.
What our customers say about our heating & radiators service
5 out of 5 from 10 reviews
Fast, tidy and friendly
Booked the £220 booking-fee slot on Tuesday and got a message confirming the time the same morning. The cause was explained, the price agreed before any work started, and the job was done in about 46 minutes. Clean and tidy when they left.
Job: No Heating from Boiler
Turned up when they said
What I appreciated was being told what was actually wrong before anyone started. Sorted in under 46 minutes and the invoice matched the quote to the penny.
Job: Expansion Vessel Fault
Exactly what was quoted
I had put off sorting this for months because I expected a runaround. Quoted the booking fee plus hourly rate upfront, stuck to it, and actually found the underlying cause rather than just clearing the symptom. Worked neatly and hoovered up afterwards.
Job: Airlock in Hot Water System

Questions people ask about hot water works but heating doesn’t
Straight answers to the things customers ask most often before booking.
Can I check the heating timer first?
You can check a familiar user-facing schedule and note its display. Do not dismantle a control, force a valve or open the boiler casing.
What is checked when hot water works but radiators do not?
We assess the separate heating demand, accessible controls, valves, pump and water-side circulation as appropriate. We explain whether further work or a referral is needed.
Will you open the gas boiler to check it?
No. We do not inspect gas or combustion components. If the issue appears gas-side, we refer it to a trusted Gas Safe registered partner.
Could one cold radiator mean a different issue from all cold radiators?
Yes. A single room can point to a local radiator or branch issue, while system-wide cold radiators may involve shared controls or circulation. Assessment considers the pattern.
How does pricing work?
The booking fee is paid when booking; the hourly labour rate depends on how soon you need the visit. We quote the full cost for approval before work, and quote parts or materials separately when needed.
