Induction hobs fail in their own particular ways: error codes nobody can decode, zones that will not detect a pan, controls that ignore every touch, or the whole unit dropping out mid-cook. Because induction works through electromagnetic coils controlled by sensitive electronics, diagnosis needs more than a glance; it needs proper testing of the hob and often of the pans too. That is exactly what this visit provides.
What induction faults usually look like
Common complaints include one or more zones refusing to heat, an E-number error code on the display, the hob switching itself off, buttons that do not respond, persistent beeping, or the hob heating weakly and slowly. Each of these points in a different direction: a dead zone suggests a coil or power stage fault, unresponsive controls suggest the touch panel or board, and pan-detection errors can be either a genuine sensor fault or simply incompatible cookware. Describing the exact behaviour when you book genuinely speeds the diagnosis up.
The pan question comes first
A surprising share of induction call-outs are not faults at all. Induction only works with pans whose base is ferromagnetic; if a magnet does not stick to the pan bottom, the hob will reject it no matter how expensive it was. Warped bases, pans too small for the zone and stacked cookware also cause detection failures. Bring a magnet to your kitchen before you book, test your pans, and tell us the result. If the pans are the problem, we will tell you honestly rather than selling you a repair.
What we test during the visit
With the hob safely isolated we examine the supply and connection, test the affected zones, assess the touch controls and display, check the cooling fan and internal temperature behaviour, and look for evidence of liquid ingress, which damages induction electronics more often than anything else. Boil-overs and cleaning sprays seeping under the glass are a classic cause of erratic behaviour and dead zones. Where the fault involves the hob's electronics we diagnose within our electrical competence, and we will tell you clearly if the finding points to anything beyond that scope.
Repair, part or replacement?
When a coil, control board or touch panel has failed, the decision often comes down to parts availability and price for your specific model. We identify the exact part, check it can be sourced and quote the full repair cost, then give you an honest comparison with the cost of a replacement hob so you can decide with real numbers rather than guesswork. Nothing is ordered or fitted until you have approved the price. If a part has a long lead time, we will say so rather than leaving you waiting on a promise.
Safety around a faulty induction hob
Stop using a hob that trips the electrics, smells of burning, shows cracks in the glass or behaves erratically, and leave it switched off at the isolator until it has been assessed. Never attempt to open the hob casing; the electronics store charge and the internals are not user-serviceable. If your kitchen also has gas appliances and you ever smell gas, call the National Gas Emergency Service on 0800 111 999 from outside the property.
Booking your diagnosis
Contact us with your postcode, the hob's brand and model, the exact symptoms or error code, and whether your pans pass the magnet test. We will arrange a visit, carry out the diagnosis and quote any work for your approval before starting. Same-day attendance may be available, and we will confirm honestly what is possible.
Keep the hob's installation details handy too, including roughly how old it is and whether it has ever been repaired before. Previous repairs and their parts sometimes explain intermittent faults that look mysterious from the outside.
How the price works
We charge a booking fee to hold your slot, then an hourly rate for the work itself. The fee changes with how soon you need us; the hourly rate changes with the slot you choose. You approve the price before we start, so there is no surprise on the invoice.

Induction hobs are brilliant when they work and baffling when they do not, because the fault may sit in the electronics, the sensors or even the cookware. Our visit tests the hob properly rather than guessing, explains the findings in plain English and gives you a costed choice of repair or replacement before anything is done.

Solid work. Hourly rate feels fair for the amount of work involved and everything was tested before they left. Would book again.

Really straightforward. It had been bothering us for weeks; diagnosed properly, fixed the same visit, and the price was exactly what was explained when booking. Can not fault it.

Questions people ask about induction hob fault
Straight answers to the things customers ask most often before booking.
Why does my induction hob keep rejecting my pans?
Induction needs a ferromagnetic pan base in good contact with the zone. If a fridge magnet will not stick to the pan bottom, the hob will never detect it. Warped bases and pans smaller than the zone cause the same behaviour, so test your cookware before assuming a fault.
What does the diagnosis involve?
We isolate the hob and test the supply, the affected zones, the touch controls, the cooling fan and the electronics, checking especially for liquid ingress. You get a clear explanation of the fault and a written price for repair or replacement before we do anything.
My hob shows error code E-something. Can you fix it?
Error codes vary by brand and model, and some mean simple conditions like overheating or a wrong pan, while others indicate component failure. Give us the exact code and model number when booking and we will interpret it, then confirm the cause with testing on site.
Is a cracked induction hob glass repairable?
Usually the glass top is replaced rather than repaired, and it is only worth doing if the rest of the hob is sound and the part is available. Stop using a cracked hob immediately, as spills can reach live electronics through the crack. We will check availability and quote before any work.
How much will this cost?
The booking fee is paid when you book, and the hourly labour rate depends on how soon you need the visit, with shorter notice costing more. After diagnosis we quote the full cost including any parts, and no work goes ahead until you have approved that price.
