An integration is a promise made between products: the alarm says 'I have triggered' and the hub, platform or device is supposed to act on it. When that promise fails, the cause can live in any of the parties — the alarm's settings, the hub or platform, the account links between them, the firmware on either side, or simply an incompatibility that was always there. Because several products are involved, the diagnosis has to be systematic, not a matter of re-running the setup wizard and hoping.

Where integrations break

The most common breaking points are unglamorous. Account links expire: platforms de-authorise connections after password changes, or services update their sign-in flow and quietly disconnect older links. Firmware updates on either side can change how an integration behaves, sometimes requiring a re-authorisation nobody announced. Routines and automations can be configured for devices that have since been renamed or replaced, leaving an automation that points at nothing. And some combinations of alarm and platform were never fully compatible in the first place — the features listed in a brochure do not always survive contact with real setups.

How we diagnose the failure

We test the chain step by step: does the alarm report its own events correctly, does the hub or platform receive them, and does the target device act when told directly? Splitting the chain like that shows exactly where the message dies — alarm to hub, hub to platform, platform to device. We then look at account links, authorisations, firmware versions and routine configuration. Where the diagnosis points at a manufacturer's cloud service or a third-party platform, we will say so plainly, because those are outside anyone's on-site control.

What we can and cannot deliver

We can repair the local, practical side: re-authorising account links, re-building routines, updating firmware, reconfiguring hubs, and setting up integrations that genuinely work between your existing products. We cannot guarantee the continued availability of cloud services or third-party platforms, and we will not pretend an integration is more robust than it is — some depend on services that can change without notice, and you deserve to know that before relying on it. Where two products simply will not integrate properly, we will say so and describe realistic alternatives rather than billing for an impossible fix.

Security and scope

Integrations sometimes tempt people to lower security — shared accounts, weakened authentication, disabled confirmations — to make automation flow more freely. We will not recommend that; an integration that only works when protections are loosened is a bad trade on a security system. We also work within your system's scope: we do not modify monitoring arrangements or anything involving a separate provider's contract, and if an integration depends on such a service, that is a conversation for you and that provider.

Aftercare

Once an integration works, test it deliberately every couple of months: trigger the alarm in test mode and confirm the automation follows. Integrations rot quietly when passwords change or platforms update, and a two-minute test catches that before you need it in earnest.

Booking

Book through the website or by phone, and tell us the alarm make, the platform or hub it should integrate with, and exactly which automation fails — alarm to lights, alarm to notifications, or whatever it may be. If any error message appears during setup, write it down; integration errors are unusually informative.

Why integrations deserve careful documentation

Because an integration spans several products and accounts, it is the part of a smart security setup most likely to confuse everyone six months later — including whoever attends next. When we finish an integration repair, we write down plainly what links what: which accounts are connected, which routines exist and what each one triggers, and which settings were changed. Keep that note with your system's manual. If a platform update breaks the integration next year, that single page of notes can halve the diagnostic time, because the starting point is known rather than rediscovered.

How the price works

We charge a booking fee to hold your slot, then an hourly rate for the work itself. The fee changes with how soon you need us; the hourly rate changes with the slot you choose. You approve the price before we start, so there is no surprise on the invoice.

Booked 14+ days ahead

£25 booking fee

then £85 per hour of labour

Best value. Book the slot now, pay the smallest booking fee.

Booked within 48 hours

£100 booking fee

then £65 per hour of labour

For jobs that can wait a day or two but not a fortnight.

Same-day call-out

£220 booking fee

then £45 per hour of labour

Urgent problems: standing water, no heat, no power, leaks.

We diagnose on site

The engineer confirms the cause and tells you what the job involves and how long it should take.

3

You approve, we work

Nothing goes ahead until you agree the price. Labour is then charged per hour at your slot rate.

When your smart alarm is supposed to trigger lights, notify your phone, or talk to the rest of your smart home, and it simply does not, the whole point of the system starts to unravel. Integration failures are among the trickiest smart security faults because they involve at least two products, often two manufacturers, and a glue layer of accounts, routines and platforms between them. We diagnose that glue patiently and honestly.

Questions people ask about smart alarm integration failure

Straight answers to the things customers ask most often before booking.

Is fixing an alarm integration a DIY job?

Re-linking accounts and re-running a setup wizard are reasonable DIY steps if the manuals cover them. But integration faults often sit in firmware versions, compatibility limits or configuration conflicts that are not obvious from the app, and repeated setup attempts can make matters worse.

What do you actually check?

We test each link in the chain separately — alarm events, hub reception, platform delivery and device response — then review account authorisations, firmware versions and routine configuration. That pinpoints where the integration fails rather than leaving it as a vague 'sometimes it works'.

Could the fault be with the manufacturer's cloud service?

Yes, and integrations depend on cloud services more than most features. If the diagnosis points that way, we will tell you directly. We cannot guarantee third-party or cloud service availability, so we will always be clear about which parts of your setup depend on services outside our control.

My alarm and hub are different brands — does that matter?

It can. Cross-brand integrations depend on both manufacturers supporting a common platform or protocol, and support can be partial. We will assess whether your combination genuinely supports the automation you want, and give you an honest answer rather than an experimental bill.

How much does an integration diagnosis cost?

You pay a booking fee when you book, and labour is charged hourly at a rate that depends on how soon you need the visit. The full cost of the work is quoted and approved by you before we start, with any parts quoted separately.
