After a storm, the fence is often the most visible casualty — and the one that matters most quickly, because an open boundary affects pets, children, security and privacy all at once. The order of work matters: make it safe first, assess honestly second, rebuild third.
Straight After the Storm
Before anyone starts clearing up, look before you touch. Fallen panels are heavy, spiked with nails, and sometimes resting under tension against posts or structures. Keep children and pets away from the gap and the debris. If any fencing or fallen timber is near electrical equipment — a cable drooping, a lighting post damaged — keep clear of it and mention it when you call. Do not climb on the fallen section or test its strength; a panel under tension can move suddenly. If interior rooms are exposed through a breached wall or roof as well as the fence, contain water, move valuables clear, and do not touch wet electrics — that is first-aid advice that applies before we arrive.
How We Assess Storm Damage
The storm tells you the wind was strong; it does not tell you which parts of your fence were weak. We assess the fallen section and the posts either side of it — because posts that survived visibly may still have been stressed or cracked, and posts are where failures hide. We check panels, gravel boards and fixings separately, since storm damage is rarely uniform: often a run of sound panels has been brought down by two failed posts, which is a very different job from a dozen shattered panels. You get a plain explanation of what is reusable, what is not, and why. The full cost is quoted and approved before permanent work starts, with parts quoted separately from labour.
Rebuilding After Storm Damage
Failed posts get replaced or braced; sound panels get re-hung; shattered panels get replaced, matched to the run where the style is still available. Rebuilding means digging for any new posts, and boundary lines often carry buried pipes, cables and drains. We locate carefully and use detectors where appropriate, but no scan guarantees what is below, so we ask that your utilities' plans are available — providing them is part of a safe dig approach and is the customer's responsibility. Where a long run needs rebuilding, the work becomes a quoted project after the survey.
Weather and Timing
There is an awkward truth about storm repair: the conditions that broke the fence are the conditions that make repairing it unsafe or pointless. Setting posts and hanging panels needs calm, reasonably dry weather, and we will say plainly when work must wait a day or two rather than risk a repair that fails in the next blow. In the meantime we can often arrange temporary boarding or sheeting to close the gap.
Insurance and Documentation
If you are claiming on insurance, photograph the damage before anything is moved, and keep the damaged parts until your insurer says otherwise. We are happy to work around that, and the honest assessment we provide is the sort of clear description claims processes ask for — though what your policy covers is a matter between you and your insurer.
When to Call Us
Call as soon as it is safe to do so, and tell us roughly how many metres are affected, whether posts are timber or concrete, and whether anything is resting on the fence or trapped under it.
You pay a booking fee when you book, and labour is charged hourly at a rate that depends on how soon you need the visit. The full cost of the work is quoted and approved before we start, and materials are quoted separately.
How the price works
We charge a booking fee to hold your slot, then an hourly rate for the work itself. The fee changes with how soon you need us; the hourly rate changes with the slot you choose. You approve the price before we start, so there is no surprise on the invoice.

Storm damage to a fence is disruptive and often looks worse than it is — or sometimes worse than it looks, if posts have failed below ground. Our visit covers making the boundary safe, an honest assessment of what can be saved, and a clear plan and price for the permanent repair.
What our customers say about our outdoor & exterior service
4.6 out of 5 from 10 reviews
Sorted the same day
Rang in the morning and they got to us in Wolverhampton by early afternoon. Very clear about what needed doing, what it would cost and what could wait. No pressure to add extras. Exactly the sort of tradesperson you want.
Job: Uneven Shed Base
Turned up when they said
Turned up in the window they promised, walked me through the options (turns out the previous installer had left the pipework awkward to get to), then cracked on. Everything was tested before they left. No mess, no drama, no surprise on the bill.
Job: Water-Damaged Patio
Good work, poor communication
Work itself was fine and tidy. Communication beforehand was patchy — I did not get the confirmation message and had to ring to check the slot. Would still use again.

Questions people ask about storm damage to fence
Straight answers to the things customers ask most often before booking.
Should I clear up storm-damaged fencing myself?
Clearing loose debris is reasonable once you have looked carefully, but fallen panels are heavy, spiked with nails and sometimes under tension against posts or structures. Do not climb on fallen sections or test their stability, and keep children and pets away from the gap. If anything electrical is involved, leave it alone and tell us when you book.
What do you check after storm damage?
The fallen section, the posts either side — including ones that are still standing but may have been stressed — plus panels, gravel boards and fixings, all assessed separately. Storm damage is rarely uniform, and posts that look fine can be cracked. You get a plain account of what is reusable and what needs replacing before anything is quoted.
Can you secure the gap the same day if the weather is still bad?
Often, yes — temporary boarding or sheeting can usually be arranged even when the permanent rebuild must wait for calm weather, and that is an honest interim while the proper repair is quoted. What is possible on the day depends on conditions and what we find, but closing the gap quickly is the priority we work to.
Will the repaired section match the rest of my fence?
We match sizes and, where the style is still stocked, the appearance — though storm seasons sometimes claim a style the suppliers no longer make, and then the honest answer is a close match rather than an identical one. We will tell you what is available before you commit to anything.
How is storm damage repair priced?
You pay a booking fee when you book, and labour is charged hourly at a rate that depends on how soon you need the visit. The full cost of the permanent repair is quoted and approved before we start, with materials quoted separately from labour. A larger rebuild would be surveyed and quoted as a project first.
