Fixing the furniture that could hurt someone
A wardrobe that rocks when a drawer opens. A chest of drawers a toddler treats as a climbing frame. A bookshelf leaning away from a wall it was never fixed to. Unsafe furniture is not a cosmetic problem — furniture tip-overs send people, especially children, to hospital every year — and it is the job we treat with the most urgency. Same-day visits may be available when something in the house is actively dangerous.
What we assess first
We look at the piece and the risk together: how tall and heavy it is, what it is loaded with, how it moves when pulled or leaned on, whether it was ever secured, and who uses the room — children and unsteady feet change the calculation. Then the wall, because restraint is only as good as what it is fixed to. Solid masonry, plasterboard on studs and older constructions each need different anchors and give different confidence, and we assess before drilling rather than assume. If a wall cannot take a safe fixing, we will say so plainly and discuss alternatives rather than fit something that gives false reassurance.
How we make furniture safe
Where the piece itself is the problem — loose joints, a warped base, missing feet, relaxed flat pack fixings — we tighten, repair or re-fix what can reasonably be repaired, using the right fixings rather than whichever screw is nearest. Where restraint is needed, we fit appropriate anti-tip straps or brackets into the wall structure suited to the fixing we find, positioned for the furniture type, and we test the result the way reality will test it: pulled and leaned with real force. Loading is part of the fix too — heavier items down low and lighter ones up high changes how a piece behaves — and we follow the maker's guidance where the furniture has it.
What we will tell you honestly
Some furniture cannot be made safe by fixing: cheap tall units with failed boards, pieces with cracked structural panels, anything where the restraint would be fixed to furniture that is itself failing. In those cases we will say that replacement or proper disposal is the right answer, because making something look safe is worse than useless. We do not overstate, either: wall restraint prevents tip-overs when correctly fitted to a suitable wall and used sensibly — it is not a licence for children to climb, and supervision still matters. You will always know exactly what we fixed and what remains your responsibility.
Habits that keep furniture safe
Fixing solves today's risk; loading habits prevent the next one. Keep the heaviest things on the lowest shelves and drawers, resist the television on top of a chest of drawers, and avoid storing tempting items — toys, sweets, tablets — where a child will climb to reach them. Re-check fixings after any move, because a knock through a doorway relaxes joints months before it shows. If children use the room, review the arrangement as they grow, since what was out of reach last year may be exactly at climbing height now.

Booking urgently
Tell us what is wrong, who uses the room, and how soon. A booking fee is paid when you book, labour is hourly with the rate depending on how soon you need the visit, and the full cost is quoted for your approval before work starts; straps, brackets and any replacement parts are identified and quoted separately. Same-day may be available for genuinely urgent cases, we are fully insured, and we cover the West Midlands.
How the price works
We charge a booking fee to hold your slot, then an hourly rate for the work itself. The fee changes with how soon you need us; the hourly rate changes with the slot you choose. You approve the price before we start, so there is no surprise on the invoice.

Questions people ask about unsafe furniture fixing
Straight answers to the things customers ask most often before booking.
Can I fit anti-tip straps myself?
You can buy strap kits and fit basic ones, and for a light unit on a solid wall that may be reasonable. What DIY fitting gets wrong is the anchor choice for the wall — plasterboard needs very different treatment from masonry — and the position and angle of the fixing, which determines whether the strap actually stops a tip-over. If children use the room or the furniture is heavy, having it assessed and fitted properly is worth it.
What do you inspect when making furniture safe?
We check how the piece behaves under real force — pulled, leaned and loaded — and why: loose joints, relaxed fixings, a warped base or missing feet. Then we assess the wall's construction to see what a restraint fixing can honestly achieve, and check how the furniture is loaded, because heavy items high up make any unit more likely to tip. You get a clear picture of the problem before we start fixing.
Can you fix furniture to any wall?
No, and we will not pretend otherwise. Solid masonry, plasterboard on studs and older wall types each take different anchors, and some walls — and some pieces of furniture — simply cannot be safely restrained together. We assess before drilling, agree the approach with you, and if a safe fixing is not possible we say so plainly and discuss alternatives rather than fit something that gives false reassurance.
Do you provide the straps and brackets?
Materials are handled separately from labour: we identify the right strap or bracket for your wall and furniture, and it is quoted separately so you know exactly what is what. Some makers supply their own restraint kit with the furniture, and where that exists we prefer to use it to the manufacturer's specification. Nothing is fixed until the parts and the approach are agreed with you.
How much does a safety visit cost?
You pay a booking fee when you book, labour is hourly and the rate depends on how soon you need the visit, and the full cost is quoted for your approval before work starts. Straps, brackets and any replacement parts are identified and quoted separately. Same-day visits may be available where something is genuinely dangerous, so say so clearly when you call.
