CCTV systems fail in pieces, not wholes: one camera drops, the recorder slows, footage gaps appear, remote viewing sulks. Because the parts interact, the fault you notice is often one step removed from the cause — a camera that misbehaves because of its power supply, a recorder that beeps because of its drive, footage that vanishes because of a setting. A repair visit is worth doing properly for exactly that reason: find the cause, not the symptom.
What a repair visit covers
Our engineer assesses the whole system, not just the part you noticed. We check power at each point of the chain, test cables and connections, review what the recorder reports about its drives and errors, examine each camera's picture and settings, and verify that recordings are being written, retained and played back. We look for the interacting faults that single-component checks miss — a marginal supply that only fails at night, a drive that only errors under load, a network setting that only bites when the internet drops. Where the fault is genuinely in your fixed wiring or electrics rather than the CCTV installation, we will say so plainly and explain what needs a qualified electrician rather than improvising.
Diagnosis first, repair with approval
We do not fit parts speculatively or sell repairs to equipment that does not need them. The diagnosis tells us what has actually failed, and we quote the fix before starting — replacement parts are quoted separately so you can see exactly what you are approving. Some faults are fixed in the visit: a reseated connection, a corrected setting, a replaced adapter or a cleaned and refocused camera. Others need parts we will quote honestly, including the honest advice that a component has reached the end of its life and replacement is more sensible than repair. What we never do is promise an outcome before diagnosis or leave you with a system that "probably will be fine".
Repairs and their honest limits
Repair restores the system you have; it does not upgrade it or make it future-proof, and we will not claim otherwise. Some failures — a recorder board past saving, a camera that has died after a surge — lead to replacement recommendations rather than repairs, and we will explain the options and quote clearly rather than steering you either way for our own convenience. Where a repair depends on things outside our control — your broadband for remote features, third-party apps, the continuing health of ageing equipment elsewhere in the system — we will say so. And no repair guarantees against future faults; it fixes what is broken today.
Your recordings, your responsibility
Whatever we repair, what the system records remains personal data, and the owner is responsible for handling it lawfully and considerately. Cameras should cover your own property and avoid unnecessarily filming neighbours' homes, gardens or public space; footage should be kept for a sensible period rather than hoarded; and clips should be shared only appropriately — for example with the police if they request them in connection with an incident. During repairs we sometimes see what your cameras cover, and we will mention anything that reaches beyond your boundary. We fit and configure equipment; we do not provide legal advice.
Aftercare
After the repair we confirm the fault is gone and show you what healthy looks like on your system, so you can spot trouble early. Keep noting anything odd — times, cameras, weather — because patterns speed up any future diagnosis enormously. And do not ignore the small warnings: beeps, icons and sluggish menus are usually the cheapest problems to fix.
When to call us
Book when the fault appears, and tell us what is misbehaving, since when it started, and whether anything preceded it — storms, power cuts, network changes and building work are all relevant. You pay a booking fee when you book, labour is charged hourly at a rate that depends on how soon you need the visit, and the full cost is quoted and approved before work starts, with parts quoted separately.
How the price works
We charge a booking fee to hold your slot, then an hourly rate for the work itself. The fee changes with how soon you need us; the hourly rate changes with the slot you choose. You approve the price before we start, so there is no surprise on the invoice.

We diagnose on site
The engineer confirms the cause and tells you what the job involves and how long it should take.
You approve, we work
Nothing goes ahead until you agree the price. Labour is then charged per hour at your slot rate.
When part of your CCTV system misbehaves, you want an engineer who diagnoses before replacing and explains before charging. Our repair visit covers the whole chain — cameras, cabling, power, recorder, storage and settings — finds the actual fault, and fixes it with your approval. No guesswork, no parts fitted on spec, no surprises on the bill.
What our customers say about our Security & CCTV service
5 out of 5 from 7 reviews
Would use again
Third time we have used Maintenance Men, and the same experience each time: agreed price, proper explanation, job done in one visit. The hourly rate is fair for the standard of work.
Job: CCTV Installation
Second time we have used them
I had put off sorting this for months because I expected a runaround. Quoted the booking fee plus hourly rate upfront, stuck to it, and actually found the underlying cause rather than just clearing the symptom. Worked neatly and hoovered up afterwards.
Job: Backup Battery Fault
Exactly what was quoted
What I appreciated was being told what was actually wrong before anyone started. Sorted in under 56 minutes and the invoice matched the quote to the penny.

Questions people ask about cctv repair service
Straight answers to the things customers ask most often before booking.
Is there anything I should try myself before a repair visit?
The safe basics: confirm power is connected, note any error messages or beeping, and try a single careful reboot of the recorder. Beyond that, most CCTV repair work involves wiring, height access and configuration that DIY attempts tend to complicate — and please avoid factory resets, which can destroy settings and footage.
What does a repair visit actually involve?
We assess the whole chain — power, cabling, recorder, drives, cameras and settings — to find the real cause rather than the obvious symptom, then quote the fix for your approval before starting. Simple faults are fixed in the visit; anything needing parts is quoted separately so you can decide.
Do you replace parts just to make money on the repair?
No — diagnosis comes first and we only recommend replacement when a component has genuinely failed or is beyond economic repair, and we say which it is. Parts are quoted separately and you approve the cost before anything is fitted. If repair is the sensible option, that is what we will recommend.
My camera points over the road — can you help with that while you're here?
We can reposition or re-angle it onto your own property, which is generally the right direction: cameras should cover your own land and avoid unnecessarily filming neighbours' homes or public space, because recordings are personal data and the owner is responsible for using them lawfully. Specific legal questions, though, are not something we advise on.
How will the cost be worked out?
You pay a booking fee when you book. Labour is charged hourly at a rate that depends on how soon you need the visit. The full cost is quoted and approved before work starts; parts are quoted separately.
