After a storm, sheds often show damage that looks worse than it is — and sometimes damage that looks minor but runs deeper than it appears. The right order is: safety first, contents second, structure third, cosmetics last.
What to do before we arrive
Don't go into a shed with a partly collapsed roof, torn-off panels or hanging debris — treat it as unstable. If water is coming in, move anything salvageable from a safe position and don't touch lighting, sockets or electrical items that have got wet; if the shed has its own supply, leave it off at the house. Take photos if you can do so safely, for your own records or for insurance. Keep children and pets clear of the area, and beware of sharp sheet metal and nails left behind by wind damage.
What we assess after the storm
We check the whole structure: whether the roof covering has lifted, torn or lost sections; whether panels have blown out or fixings have failed; whether glazing or roof lights have cracked; whether the frame has been racked or twisted by wind loading; and whether water has got into the floor, base or interior. We look for the underlying causes, too — a roof that fails in every gale usually has a fixing or edge-trim problem worth fixing permanently, and a shed that racks in high wind may have a base or frame weakness. On older sheds we don't disturb any material that could contain asbestos, and recommend testing instead.
Making it weather-tight in the interim
Where conditions allow, temporary cover such as sheeting or battened tarpaulins is an honest interim measure that keeps rain off the contents while the permanent repair is quoted and scheduled — it is a stopgap, not a repair, and we treat it that way. Loose panels and debris are made safe rather than left flapping, and anything at risk of further collapse is secured or taken down carefully. If the forecast is against us, we'll say so and schedule the work when it's safe to do it properly rather than patch in a gale.
Permanent repairs
Once we've diagnosed the damage, options are quoted clearly: re-covering or repairing roof sections, refixing or replacing panels, repairing glazing trims, restoring the frame where it has racked, and drying-out advice for the interior. Where storm damage reveals rot or base movement underneath, we'll include that in the picture rather than quote repairs that sit on top of it. Larger repairs are staged across the days they need, and every stage's cost is approved before work starts. No repair can be guaranteed against the next storm, but fixing the underlying weakness is what stops the same failure repeating.
It also helps to think about what the shed holds before the repair is scheduled. Anything genuinely valuable or vulnerable to damp — power tools, fabric, paperwork, electric bikes — is better moved indoors or into a dry outbuilding for the interim, even if temporary cover keeps most of the rain off. Dehumidifying tubs or good ventilation help too; a shed that stays shut and damp after storm damage develops mould problems faster than the repair can reach it.
Booking after storm damage
Call or book through the website and describe the damage as you see it, the shed's size and age, whether there's water inside and whether anything valuable needs priority protection. If you're claiming on insurance, we can describe the damage and work plainly in writing on request. You'll pay a booking fee when you book, labour is charged hourly at a rate that depends on how soon you need us, and the full cost is quoted and approved before work starts, with any parts quoted separately.
How the price works
We charge a booking fee to hold your slot, then an hourly rate for the work itself. The fee changes with how soon you need us; the hourly rate changes with the slot you choose. You approve the price before we start, so there is no surprise on the invoice.

We diagnose on site
The engineer confirms the cause and tells you what the job involves and how long it should take.
You approve, we work
Nothing goes ahead until you agree the price. Labour is then charged per hour at your slot rate.
A storm can lift felt, tear panels, break glazing and dump water inside a shed in an afternoon. The priority afterwards is making the structure safe and the contents protected — then a proper diagnosis of what failed and why, so the repair you approve actually holds next time. We'll tell you honestly what can be done now and what must wait.
What our customers say about our outdoor & exterior service
4.6 out of 5 from 10 reviews
Sorted the same day
Rang in the morning and they got to us in Wolverhampton by early afternoon. Very clear about what needed doing, what it would cost and what could wait. No pressure to add extras. Exactly the sort of tradesperson you want.
Job: Uneven Shed Base
Turned up when they said
Turned up in the window they promised, walked me through the options (turns out the previous installer had left the pipework awkward to get to), then cracked on. Everything was tested before they left. No mess, no drama, no surprise on the bill.
Job: Water-Damaged Patio
Good work, poor communication
Work itself was fine and tidy. Communication beforehand was patchy — I did not get the confirmation message and had to ring to check the slot. Would still use again.

Questions people ask about storm damaged shed
Straight answers to the things customers ask most often before booking.
Is it safe to open my shed after a storm?
Only if nothing is hanging, leaning or collapsed. Torn roofing, loose panels and racked frames can move without warning, and wet electrics are a real hazard. Keep everyone back, leave the power off if the shed has one, and let us assess the structure first.
What do you do on the first visit after storm damage?
We make loose or dangerous elements safe, assess the roof, panels, glazing, frame and base for damage and underlying weaknesses, and fit temporary cover such as sheeting where it's practical. Then we explain the permanent repair options and quote the full cost for your approval before starting.
Can you stop the rain getting in straight away?
Usually we can fit temporary sheeting or tarpaulin cover as an honest interim measure on the first visit, weather permitting. It's a stopgap to protect contents while the permanent repair is quoted and scheduled — not a fix, and we'll be clear about the difference.
Will insurance cover the repair?
That's between you and your insurer — we don't handle claims. What we can do is assess the damage thoroughly and, on request, describe in writing what we found and what work is proposed, which is often what insurers ask for. Keep your own photos too if you took them safely.
How much will it cost?
You pay a booking fee when you book, and labour is charged hourly at a rate that depends on how soon you need the visit. The full cost of the permanent repair is quoted and approved before work starts, with any parts quoted separately — temporary cover is part of the quoted plan where it's needed.
