Why TVs come off the wall

Decorating is the classic reason: a screen in the way of a wall being papered or painted. House moves are another — screens travel in their boxes, walls change. Sometimes the reason is the room: the sofa moved, the old position stopped working, or a bigger screen arrived that wants a different spot. And sometimes the screen came down because of a problem — a loose fixing, a damaged wall — and the remount is the last step after that is sorted. Each of these changes what the remount needs, which is why we treat it as its own job rather than half a mounting visit.

Assessing before re-fixing

A remount starts with the same questions as a first mount, plus a few unique ones. Where is it going — back to the same spot, or somewhere new? If it is the same spot, what state are the old holes in? A fixing hole that has been used once, chewed or filled with filler is not automatically reusable, and old plugs are not new plugs. If it is a new wall or a new position, the standard assessment applies: what the wall is made of, where the structure or solid material is, and what might be hidden behind the surface — pipes, cable routes, socket spurs. A detector helps narrow that down, but no scan guarantees what is hidden, so we verify before drilling and never drill blind.

The remount process

We check the bracket and screen as carefully as the wall, because a screen that has travelled may have worked something loose, and a bracket that has been off and on a few times deserves a once-over. Then the sequence is familiar: agree the position and height with you, mark it level, fix the wall plate with anchors matched to the substrate and in good condition, pull-check for movement, and hang the screen with its safety locks engaged. Where the old position is being abandoned, we can deal with the evidence — filling old holes and small repairs — which we scope and quote separately rather than assume into the visit. For larger screens, the lift is planned as usual, and we may ask you to arrange a second pair of hands, which we flag when booking.

Old holes and making good

Remounts often leave two kinds of damage behind: the old fixing holes from the previous position, and any patch where the wall was touched up. Filling and sanding small holes is usually straightforward, but making good properly — texture, paint matching, a wall that was already imperfect — is a separate matter with separate limits, and we will be clear about what is included. If the old holes tell a story, such as signs the previous fixing pulled out, we will look at why before reusing that wall area rather than repeating history.

When the wall has changed

Walls are rarely the same after months away. New paint and plaster behave differently, new radiators or sockets have added buried services, and a room that was stripped back may have new cable routes. This is why we re-assess even a familiar wall instead of drilling where the old holes were — the wall's memory is not your memory, and the safest approach is to verify what is there now.

Aftercare

A remounted screen should behave like a first-time mount: solid, level, silent. Check it in the first weeks — a plate that shifts or a joint that loosens early is worth an urgent look, because it usually points at a fixing that needs resolving now rather than later. Keep the bracket's instructions, and if you plan to move the screen again in future, note the position and fixings — it makes the next remount cheaper and quicker.

Booking

Same-day slots may be available, and planned visits suit remounts that include filling and repairs. You pay a booking fee on booking, labour is charged hourly at a rate that depends on how soon you need the visit, and the full cost is quoted and approved before work starts. Filler, fixings and any making-good materials are identified and quoted separately.

How the price works

We charge a booking fee to hold your slot, then an hourly rate for the work itself. The fee changes with how soon you need us; the hourly rate changes with the slot you choose. You approve the price before we start, so there is no surprise on the invoice.

TVs come off the wall for good reasons: decorating, moving house, new furniture, a change of wall. Putting one back is not just re-drilling the same holes — the wall may have changed, the old fixings may be spent, and the new position may need fresh thinking. We handle the whole remount.

Questions people ask about tv remount service

Straight answers to the things customers ask most often before booking.

Can I remount the TV myself?

If it is going back on the same wall in the same holes with everything sound, possibly — but old holes and old plugs are the weak point, and a wall that has been decorated or altered may hide new services. If the position is changing or the screen is large, a proper assessment is the safer route.

What do you check during a remount?

We assess the wall at the new or old position, check the condition of any existing fixing holes, look for concealed pipes and cables, and inspect the bracket and screen for anything loosened in transit. Then we fix the plate with sound anchors, check it for movement and hang the screen with its locks engaged.

Can old TV bracket holes be reused?

Sometimes, but not by default. A hole that is intact and the right size can take a fresh plug; a chewed, oversized or filler-filled hole needs making good or relocating the fixing. We check each old hole on its merits and will not simply screw into whatever is there and hope it holds.

Do you fill the old holes as part of the remount?

Small hole filling can be included in the quote if you ask for it — it is quick work. Larger making-good, such as a patch that needs sanding, texture or paint matching, is scoped and quoted separately, because a proper finish is its own job. We agree which applies before the visit rather than assuming.

How is a remount priced?

You pay a booking fee when you book, and hourly labour at a rate that depends on how soon you need the visit. The full cost is quoted and approved before work starts, and it depends on whether the screen is returning to a ready wall or moving to a new one. Filler, fixings and materials are quoted separately where needed.
