The bracket is the part that decides everything

People spend hours choosing a television and five minutes choosing a bracket, yet the bracket is what keeps the screen on the wall. It has to carry the weight through its fixings into whatever the wall is made of, hold the screen square, and keep doing both for years without creeping loose. A bracket fitted on the wrong anchors, in the wrong position or into the wrong part of the wall will fail quietly — first with a tilt, later with something worse. Fitting it properly is a small job that protects an expensive one.

Matching bracket to screen and wall

Before fixing anything we check the bracket against two things. First, the screen: the bracket's fixing pattern has to line up with the holes on the back of the television, and its weight rating has to comfortably exceed the screen's weight, with margin for the leverage a panel applies. Second, the wall: a bracket for masonry is fixed with plugs and masonry anchors, while plasterboard needs to load onto the timber frame behind it or use fixings that spread the load properly. You normally supply the bracket and television unless we have agreed otherwise, and if the hardware in the box does not suit the wall we will say so and quote suitable fixings separately rather than improvise.

Finding the right spot and checking for hidden services

Position is agreed with you first — screen height, sight lines from your usual seat, and anything the bracket needs to clear such as a socket, a media unit or a fireplace. Then we establish what is behind the chosen spot. We probe the wall, look for signs of concealed pipework, cable routes and socket spurs, and check for anything unexpected such as a boxed-in flue. A detector helps narrow things down, but no scan can promise the absence of hidden services, so we verify carefully and never drill blind. If the spot will not give a safe fixing, we discuss repositioning before drilling rather than after.

Fixing the bracket properly

We mark the fixing points with a level so the bracket sits square, because a tilted wall plate means a tilted screen no matter how careful the hanging. Then we drill only where a safe fixing has been established, use anchors matched to the substrate, and tighten to the point the manufacturer specifies. Before the screen goes anywhere near it, we pull-check the bracket for movement — if it shifts, we resolve that now, not after the television is on it.

What we do not do

We do not alter electrical wiring or sockets — cable routing that touches circuits is electrician territory, and our cable work stays non-invasive, such as surface trunking agreed with you. We do not fit a bracket to a wall we have assessed as unsuitable, and we do not promise that a detector has found every hidden pipe or cable. If the wall needs reinforcement before it can carry the load, we will explain that and quote the work separately rather than fold it silently into the visit.

Preparing for the visit

Have the bracket, the television (or at least its manual or model number) and any fixings supplied with them to hand. Tell us the wall type if you know it — solid, plasterboard, dry-lined — because it shapes what we bring. Clear the work area and think about where the screen will hang, so the bracket position is settled quickly on the day.

Aftercare

A well-fitted bracket should not move. If you notice the plate shifting, the screen drifting out of level or any cracking or dust around the fixings, have it checked early — a small re-fix is far easier than repairing a fallen screen. Keep the bracket's instructions in case you want to adjust tilt or extension later.

Booking

Same-day slots may be available, and planned visits give more choice of time. You pay a booking fee on booking, labour is charged hourly at a rate that depends on how soon you need the visit, and the full cost is quoted and approved by you before work starts. Any fixings or materials the job needs beyond what you have supplied are identified and quoted separately.

How the price works

We charge a booking fee to hold your slot, then an hourly rate for the work itself. The fee changes with how soon you need us; the hourly rate changes with the slot you choose. You approve the price before we start, so there is no surprise on the invoice.

The bracket is the part that decides whether a wall-mounted TV succeeds. It has to match the screen, suit the wall and be fixed with the right anchors in the right places — and none of that is visible once the television is hanging over it. We fit brackets carefully, so that the day you hang the screen is the easy part.

Questions people ask about tv bracket installation

Straight answers to the things customers ask most often before booking.

Can I fit the bracket myself?

Many brackets come with reasonable instructions, but the tricky part is the wall, not the bracket — knowing what it is made of, where its frame or solid material is, and which anchors to use. Getting that wrong is how brackets come loose. If you are comfortable with those judgements, it is doable; otherwise a visit removes the guesswork.

What do you check when fitting a bracket?

We confirm the bracket's fixing pattern and weight rating match your screen, establish what the wall is made of, and probe for concealed pipes and cables before drilling. Then we mark it level, fix it with anchors suited to the substrate, and pull-check it for movement before the screen is hung.

The fixings came with the bracket — are they always right?

Not always. Bracket boxes are supplied for a generic wall, and the plugs inside are often suited to masonry only. On plasterboard or dry-lined walls they may be useless or even dangerous. We check what the fixings suit, and if they do not match your wall we will say so and quote suitable ones separately.

Can the bracket go anywhere on the wall I like?

Within what the wall can safely carry, yes — but some spots are better than others. Fixings need to land in solid material or a properly spread load, and hidden pipes, cables and flues rule out certain areas. We agree the position with you and verify the spot before drilling rather than promising any wall point will work.

How much does bracket fitting cost?

You pay a booking fee on booking and hourly labour, with the rate depending on how soon you need the visit — the full cost is quoted and you approve it before work starts. If suitable fixings or other materials are needed on top of what you supplied, those are identified and quoted separately.
