Why soundbars get installed badly
Soundbars are sold as plug-and-play, and electrically they nearly are — but placement and cabling decide whether they sound their best and look their best. A bar wedged in front of the screen's bottom edge blocks the picture; one on a shelf inside a cabinet chokes the sound; one mounted high and tilted badly throws the audio off. Meanwhile the leads — power, HDMI, optical — hang below the TV and undo the tidy wall-mounting job you just paid for. Doing the job properly is not complicated, but it involves a few decisions worth making once, correctly.
Placement and brackets
Where the bar goes depends on the room and the bar. Below a wall-mounted TV is the classic spot: it keeps the sound anchored to the picture and the cables short. Many soundbars have dedicated mounting brackets that fix to the wall — or to the TV's own bracket in some designs — and you normally supply the bar and its bracket unless we have agreed otherwise. We check the bar's weight and fixings against the wall, the same assessment any wall job needs: what the substrate is, what lies behind the fixing points, and whether hidden pipes or cables are in the way. A detector helps narrow things down, but no scan guarantees what is concealed, so we verify before drilling and never drill blind. If the bar sits on furniture instead, we place it clear of the screen's bottom edge, with breathing room and no rattling contact with the cabinet.
Connections: keep it simple where possible
Most soundbars connect to the TV with a single cable — HDMI ARC or eARC where both devices support it, otherwise an optical lead. We use the simplest connection the equipment supports, make it secure, and set the TV's audio output to match, so volume, mute and standby behave sensibly across both devices. If you have a separate subwoofer or rear speakers, we position and pair those per the manufacturer's instructions, being realistic about where a sub can go — it needs power, and its sound is best when it is not shut in a cupboard.
Cable routes
A soundbar usually adds one or two leads to the TV wall, which is where cable management earns its place. We route the leads with the same approach as the TV cables: slim surface trunking or clips on the surface, or routing behind or through surfaces where access has been agreed beforehand and the work stays non-invasive. We do not alter electrical wiring — the bar's power lead is routed to your existing socket on the surface, and if you want a socket moved or added behind the TV, that is a qualified electrician's job that we will flag plainly.
When the setup needs more than the bar
Soundbars expose things people did not expect. Some TVs route audio oddly through certain inputs; some apps ignore the ARC connection until settings are changed; a few older televisions need an optical workaround. We work through the manufacturer's instructions for both devices and test with the sources you actually use — live TV, a streaming app, a console if you have one — rather than declaring victory on a test tone. If something in your setup genuinely cannot work together, we will tell you what the limitation is rather than leave you guessing.
Aftercare
Once fitted, a soundbar needs little: keep its vents clear, update its firmware when the app asks, and re-check the connections if you ever pull the cabinet forward. If the bar is wall-mounted, treat it like any other fixing — movement or cracks around its fixings are worth an early look. And if you later wall-mount the TV itself, the bar's bracket position is worth revisiting at the same time, since the two are designed to sit in relationship.
Booking
Same-day slots may be available for a straightforward fit, and planned visits suit bars that need wall brackets or extra routing. You pay a booking fee on booking, labour is charged hourly at a rate that depends on how soon you need the visit, and the full cost is quoted and approved before work starts. Brackets, trunking and fixings are materials, identified and quoted separately — tell us the bar model when you book and we will know what to expect.
How the price works
We charge a booking fee to hold your slot, then an hourly rate for the work itself. The fee changes with how soon you need us; the hourly rate changes with the slot you choose. You approve the price before we start, so there is no surprise on the invoice.

You approve, we work
Nothing goes ahead until you agree the price. Labour is then charged per hour at your slot rate.
A soundbar transforms flat TV audio, but only if it is placed, connected and configured sensibly. We mount it or position it, route the cables neatly, and make the TV and soundbar work together — so the upgrade you bought actually arrives.

Questions people ask about soundbar installation
Straight answers to the things customers ask most often before booking.
Can I install a soundbar myself?
If it sits on the furniture and connects with one cable, very possibly — most bars are designed for it. It becomes worth getting help when the bar is being wall-mounted, when cables need hiding, or when the TV's audio settings fight back. Wall fixings into an unknown wall are the part where guesswork costs most.
What do you do when fitting a soundbar?
We agree the position, assess the wall if the bar is being mounted, check the fixings and bracket suit the bar's weight, and fit it level. Then we connect it by the simplest route the equipment supports — usually HDMI ARC or optical — set the TV's audio output, and test with the sources you actually watch.
Do you drill the wall for the soundbar bracket?
Only where a safe fixing has been established. We check the wall construction and look for concealed pipes and cables before any drilling — a detector helps narrow it down but cannot guarantee what is hidden, so we verify first. If the spot will not give a safe fixing, we will suggest an alternative position.
Can the soundbar cables be hidden too?
Yes — the same non-invasive options as TV cables: slim surface trunking, clips, or routing behind surfaces where access is agreed in advance. The bar's power lead is routed to your socket on the surface, because altering or burying mains wiring is electrician territory, not this visit.
What does soundbar installation cost?
You pay a booking fee on booking, and hourly labour with a rate that depends on how soon you need the visit. The full cost is quoted and you approve it before work starts, and it depends on whether the bar is placed or wall-mounted. Brackets, trunking and fixings are identified and quoted separately as materials.
