What the job involves
Wall mirrors earn their keep twice over — once as glass, once as light — and they only do both jobs when they are hung properly. A mirror that leans back shows you the ceiling; one hung too low shows you the hallway; one on a single under-rated hook is quietly working itself loose. Wall mirror installation is about three things: fixings matched to the mirror's weight, a height and position that suits the room, and a finish that is dead level.
We hang hallway mirrors, over-mantel mirrors, dressing mirrors and full-length wall-mounted ones across the West Midlands, with the wall type and the mirror's own fittings deciding the method.
How we assess it first
Weight comes first, because everything else follows from it. A mirror's weight sits in the glass and the frame, and the difference between a five-kilogram hallway mirror and a thirty-kilogram over-mantel piece is the difference between a simple hook and a properly engineered fixing. We look at what hanging fittings the mirror has — two D-rings on a wire, fixed D-rings, a French cleat, hanging clips, or nothing yet — and at what the wall behind is made of.
The wall decides the fixing. Solid brick or block takes plugs and screws matched to the load. Plasterboard needs the fixings to land on timber studs or noggin pieces where possible, or quality hollow-wall anchors where not. Older plastered walls are assessed for condition as well as material, because crumbly plaster will not hold even the right fixing for long. We plan drill positions away from the places cables and pipes typically run — nowhere near sockets, switches or obvious service routes — and if a proposed spot cannot take a confident fixing, we discuss moving the mirror rather than forcing it.
Height and position
Most mirrors read best with their centre around eye level, and the practical test is what the mirror is for: a hallway mirror for last checks before leaving wants to be at face height; a mirror above a console or fireplace sits relative to the furniture, usually with its bottom edge within fifteen to twenty centimetres of it. We hold the mirror against the wall at the proposed position so you can see it in place before any hole is made. That minute of standing back has saved more mirrors from misjudged heights than any measuring trick.
The fixing methods we use
Two-point hanging with D-rings is the workhorse: stable, level and easy to adjust. A French cleat — an interlocking pair of battens — spreads the weight across the whole width and is our preference for heavier rectangular mirrors. Purpose-made mirror clips suit certain frames where the maker intended them. Whatever the method, the screws and plugs are chosen for the actual weight, not an average one, and we check that the fixings are seated properly before the mirror goes anywhere near them.
If your mirror has no fittings on the back, tell us when booking; we can agree to fit appropriate hangers to the frame, with any parts quoted separately from the labour.
Limits and what we will not do
We do not hang mirrors on adhesive pads alone where the weight argues otherwise — the failures we are called out to fix are mostly exactly that. Very heavy mirrors are a dedicated job with structural fixings and, where needed, a second pair of hands. We do not carry out electrical or plumbing alterations, which matters for illuminated or demisting mirrors: a hardwired illuminated mirror needs an electrician for the wiring, and we can hang the mirror itself around that work.
Preparing and aftercare
Have the mirror accessible, know roughly what it weighs if you can, and clear the wall and floor beneath it. Afterwards, check the level after a week, clean the glass with a standard glass cleaner applied to the cloth rather than sprayed at the frame, and keep the wall fixings dry — a leaking radiator or steady condensation behind a mirror will eventually find any fixing.
Booking
Tell us the mirror's approximate size and weight, the room, and the wall type if known. You pay a booking fee when you book, the hourly rate depends on how quickly you need us, and the full cost is quoted and approved before we start. Same-day visits may be available across the West Midlands.
How the price works
We charge a booking fee to hold your slot, then an hourly rate for the work itself. The fee changes with how soon you need us; the hourly rate changes with the slot you choose. You approve the price before we start, so there is no surprise on the invoice.

We diagnose on site
The engineer confirms the cause and tells you what the job involves and how long it should take.
You approve, we work
Nothing goes ahead until you agree the price. Labour is then charged per hour at your slot rate.
A mirror shows up every crooked fixing behind it — the tilt you only notice in the reflection, the frame sitting too low, the hook that has started to creep down the plasterboard. Hanging a mirror well means matching the fixing to the mirror's weight and the wall's construction. We do that check every time, then set it at the height that suits the room.

Questions people ask about wall mirror installation
Straight answers to the things customers ask most often before booking.
Is hanging a mirror a DIY job?
A light hallway mirror on a solid wall, yes. It stops being straightforward when the mirror is heavy, the wall is plasterboard or older plaster, or the mirror has no proper fittings on its back — which describes most of the mirrors we are called to. A mirror that creeps down over weeks is usually an under-rated fixing, and it is much cheaper to have it assessed than to replace the glass.
What do you check before hanging a mirror?
We check the mirror's weight and the fittings on its back, the wall construction at the chosen position, and the likely routes of cables and pipes before marking anything. We hold the mirror in position so you can approve the height and see the reflection before drilling. Fixings are then chosen for the actual weight, not an average.
Can you hang a mirror without drilling?
Adhesive hook products have their place for very light pieces on sound, smooth surfaces, but we do not rely on them for mirrors of any real weight — the failures we are asked to fix are mostly adhesive jobs that let go. A mirror is a heavy, valuable object, and a proper fixing into the right material is the honest way to hang one. We will say plainly when a wall cannot provide it.
How high should a mirror hang?
For a mirror you look into — hallways, dressing areas — centre it around eye level, roughly 150 centimetres for most adults. Above furniture such as a console or mantel, the bottom edge usually sits fifteen to twenty centimetres above it. We hold the mirror against the wall so you can check the reflection before we commit.
How does pricing work?
A booking fee is paid when you book, and the hourly labour rate depends on how quickly you need the visit. The full cost is quoted before work starts and approved by you. If the mirror needs new hanging fittings fitted to its back, they are identified and quoted separately as materials.
