When a shed roof comes down — suddenly under snow, or slowly as rot eats through the timbers — the important thing is not to rush in. A partially collapsed roof can be hanging on unsupported members, with broken timber under tension, and the shed may be unstable enough to shift further. Treat the structure as unsafe until someone competent has assessed it.
First steps before we arrive
Keep people and pets away from the shed, and don't attempt to climb in or pull debris out. If water is coming in, move anything salvageable from a safe distance and don't touch electrical items, lighting or sockets that have got wet — if the shed has an electrical supply, leave it switched off. Take photographs for your own records if you can do so safely. If there is any sign the shed could fall further, stay out entirely and wait for us.
What we assess
We start by establishing why the roof failed, because that shapes everything that follows. Common causes include rotten rafters or wall plates, snow loading on a shallow-pitched roof, water-logged decking, failed wall panels that let the roof spread, and bases that have sunk at one corner and distorted the frame. We check the condition of the timbers, walls, floor and base, and look at whether anything can realistically be salvaged or whether the damage runs through the structure. On older sheds we're also alert to old roofing or panel materials that might contain asbestos — we don't disturb those and recommend testing before any demolition-style work.
Making safe and repair options
The first part of the job is making the area safe: supporting or carefully taking down loose sections, clearing the collapse in a controlled way and protecting the contents. After that the honest options are usually repair or rebuild. If the failure is local — a couple of failed rafters with a sound frame — a quoted repair may be worthwhile. If the rot or distortion is widespread, rebuilding the roof or replacing the shed is often the more economical answer, and we'll say so plainly rather than quote work that won't hold. Where the cause is the base or ground movement, repairs to the roof alone won't last, and fixing the foundation becomes part of the discussion. Larger rebuilds are quoted after the survey and staged across the days they need.
Weather and limits
External work needs suitable weather; if high winds or rain are forecast we'll schedule sensibly and tell you if conditions must delay the job. In the meantime temporary sheeting can give honest interim cover while a permanent repair is quoted, which helps keep stored items dry. We can't promise a repair outcome before we've assessed the shed, and we don't guarantee future performance — but a proper diagnosis first means you're not paying twice.
If the collapsed roof has exposed the interior, keep ventilation sensible and don't start clearing debris yourself — what looks like scrap may be supporting a wall panel, and hidden nails and broken sheet materials make clearing genuinely hazardous. Once we've assessed the structure and quoted the work, clearing and rebuilding proceed in a planned order that protects anything worth salvaging, including sound panels and timber we can reuse in the repair.
Booking and what to tell us
Call or use the website to arrange a visit, and give us the shed's size and age, how the roof failed, whether the shed still has power connected and whether anything fragile or valuable is inside. If you suspect asbestos on an older shed, say so up front. You'll pay a booking fee when you book, labour is charged hourly at a rate that depends on how soon you need us, and the full cost of any work is quoted and approved before we start, with parts quoted separately.
How the price works
We charge a booking fee to hold your slot, then an hourly rate for the work itself. The fee changes with how soon you need us; the hourly rate changes with the slot you choose. You approve the price before we start, so there is no surprise on the invoice.

We diagnose on site
The engineer confirms the cause and tells you what the job involves and how long it should take.
You approve, we work
Nothing goes ahead until you agree the price. Labour is then charged per hour at your slot rate.
A shed roof collapse is disruptive and often alarming, especially if tools and belongings are buried underneath. Our job is to bring the situation under control safely: secure the structure, assess what has failed and why, and give you an honest picture of whether repair or replacement makes sense. Nothing is disturbed until you've approved a quote.
What our customers say about our outdoor & exterior service
4.6 out of 5 from 10 reviews
Sorted the same day
Rang in the morning and they got to us in Wolverhampton by early afternoon. Very clear about what needed doing, what it would cost and what could wait. No pressure to add extras. Exactly the sort of tradesperson you want.
Job: Uneven Shed Base
Turned up when they said
Turned up in the window they promised, walked me through the options (turns out the previous installer had left the pipework awkward to get to), then cracked on. Everything was tested before they left. No mess, no drama, no surprise on the bill.
Job: Water-Damaged Patio
Good work, poor communication
Work itself was fine and tidy. Communication beforehand was patchy — I did not get the confirmation message and had to ring to check the slot. Would still use again.

Questions people ask about collapsed shed roof
Straight answers to the things customers ask most often before booking.
Is it safe to go into my shed after the roof has collapsed?
No — treat it as unstable until it's been assessed. Broken timbers can be under tension, the walls may have lost support, and wet electrics are a hazard. Keep everyone out, switch off the supply if you can do so safely at the house, and let us assess it first.
What do you do on the first visit?
We make the area safe, assess why the roof failed and check the condition of the frame, walls, floor and base. We then explain whether repair or replacement is realistic and quote the full cost for your approval before any building work starts.
Will you take the whole shed down if it's beyond repair?
Dismantling and disposal are quoted as part of the project once we've assessed the shed, and on older buildings we don't disturb materials that could contain asbestos without testing first. If a full replacement is the sensible option, we'll say so honestly rather than quote repairs that won't last.
Can a collapsed shed roof be repaired rather than rebuilt?
Sometimes — if the failure is local and the frame, walls and base are sound, a repair can be worthwhile. If rot or distortion is widespread, rebuilding or replacing the roof is usually more economical. We give you both pictures and let you decide with a clear quote.
How much will it cost to fix?
You pay a booking fee when you book, and labour is charged hourly at a rate that depends on how quickly you need the visit. The full cost is quoted and approved before work starts, with any parts quoted separately, and larger rebuilds are quoted after the survey.
