Why a tap stops delivering water
When one tap delivers nothing, the usual suspects are a seized or stripped spindle that no longer opens the valve, a washer that has come adrift and lodged across the waterway, or a cartridge blocked by debris disturbed from pipework. Sometimes the fault sits behind the tap: an isolating valve under the sink that someone closed and never reopened, a blocked flexi connector, or internal supply work that left sediment in the pipe. If every tap is dry, the stopcock, the cold water storage cistern or the mains supply itself is the place to look.
Why it needs prompt attention
A dry tap is disruptive at the sink and disruptive at the basin, and for a kitchen tap or an en-suite it can leave a home effectively without its main washing facility. Worse, the underlying cause does not stay still: a seized spindle tends to break if forced, a lodged washer can move and block a different passage, and a pipe obstruction may be a symptom of corrosion elsewhere. Because this is treated as a high-priority job, we keep same-day and emergency tap repair slots open for it rather than leaving you waiting days.
How we diagnose no water from tap
We begin by establishing the scope: is it one tap, one room, or the whole property, and is hot, cold or both affected. From there we isolate the supply to the tap, open it up, and check the spindle, washer and cartridge for failure or blockage. Next we test the supply line itself, opening isolators and checking pressure at the connection. Working through the supply in this order avoids wasted effort and tells us exactly which component, if any, is beyond repair.
How we fix it
The fix follows the diagnosis. We free or replace a seized spindle, fit a new washer or cartridge, clear debris from the valve and connector, or reopen and renew a faulty isolating valve. Corroded flexible tails are replaced rather than fought. Most no-water faults are put right in around an hour at our 110.00 fixed rate, and we carry the common valves, cartridges and connectors on the van so the job finishes in one visit. If the fault lies in the mains supply or a shared system rather than your tap, we will tell you plainly and point you to the right next step rather than billing for work that cannot help.
Preventing a repeat
Exercise isolating valves once or twice a year so they do not seize, and never force a stiff tap handle; forcing is how spindles break. If you have had pipework worked on recently and a tap went quiet afterwards, mention it, as a flush at the time removes debris that otherwise finds its way into a valve.
When to call us
Call as soon as a tap runs dry, especially if it is your only usable sink, if the handle spins with no resistance, or if the loss came on suddenly after a change in the plumbing. Those point to a mechanical failure we can usually fix in a single visit.
What the visit involves
We protect the work area, isolate the supply before opening the tap, and lay out the failed parts where you can see them. The repair is made, the supply is restored slowly so air clears rather than sprays, and the tap is run hot and cold until the flow is steady and clear. We tidy up, show you the replaced parts, and only then call the job done.
Book a call-out
Ring us or use the booking form and we will get a plumber to you, with priority for homes left without water. You get a fixed price agreed up front, a clear explanation of the fault, and a properly running tap before we leave.

How the price works
We charge a booking fee to hold your slot, then an hourly rate for the work itself. The fee changes with how soon you need us; the hourly rate changes with the slot you choose. You approve the price before we start, so there is no surprise on the invoice.

We diagnose on site
The engineer confirms the cause and tells you what the job involves and how long it should take.
You approve, we work
Nothing goes ahead until you agree the price. Labour is then charged per hour at your slot rate.
Turning a tap and getting nothing is disconcerting, but the cause is usually traceable and fixable: a blocked valve, a seized spindle, debris in the supply or a closed isolator. We diagnose why no water from tap is reaching the spout, carry out the repair, and confirm steady flow from both supplies before we go.

Questions people ask about no water from tap repair
Straight answers to the things customers ask most often before booking.
My tap has no water at all. Is it an emergency?
If it is your only working sink or water is pouring somewhere else, treat it as urgent and tell us when you call. Otherwise it is disruptive but not dangerous, and we will still prioritise getting you booked in quickly.
Should I check anything before calling?
Confirm whether other taps run normally, and look under the sink for a small slotted isolating valve that may have been turned off. Knowing this speeds up our diagnosis, but do not dismantle the tap.
How much does it cost to fix a tap with no water?
The standard repair takes about an hour and is 110.00 fixed, agreed before we start. If the fault is in the wider supply rather than the tap, we will explain that before doing any chargeable work.
Can the tap be fixed in one visit?
Usually yes. We carry common spindles, cartridges, washers and connectors on the van, so the great majority of no-water faults are repaired on the first appointment.
What if the problem is not the tap itself?
If diagnosis points to the mains supply, a cistern or shared pipework, we will show you the evidence and advise the right route, which may be your water supplier or another contractor. We only charge for the diagnostic visit, not for work we cannot complete.
