The Repairs a Normal Visit Covers
Day to day, wiring repair means a short list of familiar problems: sockets and switches that have stopped working through failed connections; light fittings that flicker, buzz or have given up; joints in lofts and under floors that have loosened or overheated; cables damaged by screws, nails or furniture; fittings wired badly by earlier work that need correcting; and the scorched or cooked terminations that come from years of heat at a single point. None of these is exotic. All of them respond well to a visit that diagnoses before it repairs.
Why Testing Comes Before Toolboxes
The most common wiring-repair mistake is assuming the visible symptom is the fault. A dead socket can be a failed joint metres away upstream; a flickering light can be a connection at the switch, the ceiling rose or somewhere in between; a tripped breaker can be protecting you from a problem in a room nobody has checked. Our engineers isolate and test first — proving what is healthy and what is not — so the repair goes where the fault actually is. It is the difference between one visit and three.
How a Repair Visit Runs
You book, describing what you have noticed as fully as you can — when it happens, what it affects, anything that changed recently. The engineer arrives within the slot you chose, listens first, then isolates the circuit and tests it: continuity, insulation, the connections at the fittings involved. Once the fault is found, you get a clear explanation and a firm price for the repair. Approve it and the work happens there and then in most cases: connections remade back to sound copper, damaged cable replaced, fittings corrected or renewed, the circuit retested under load before power is restored.
Repairs Done to Last
A quick fix that fails in six months is the most expensive repair there is, because you pay for the call-out twice. A repair is only worth paying for if it outlasts the visit. We remake joints properly rather than rescuing them with tape, replace conductors that have been heated or nicked rather than reusing them, and check the neighbouring connections on the same circuit — because a joint that failed from age rarely fails alone. Where the fault points to something bigger, such as a circuit whose cable is perishing along its length, we say so plainly and give you the options rather than selling a repair that will not hold.
What It Costs and What You Get
You pay a booking fee to secure the slot and hourly labour for the engineer's time; the rate depends on how soon you need us. The repair itself is quoted before it starts, so the price you approve is the price you pay. Afterwards you get a circuit that has been proven working, an explanation of what failed and why, and an honest note on anything else worth watching.
What We Leave Behind
Tidy work is part of the job. Faceplates sit square, floorboards go back in place, the loft is left as we found it apart from sound new connections, and any packing or offcuts leave with us. If a small piece of making-good is needed — a patch of filler, a decorator's finish — you will be told exactly what and where, not left to find out yourself.
When to Call Us
Book a repair visit for any socket, switch or light that has failed, connections that buzz or run warm, circuits that trip repeatedly, or damage you can see to any cable or fitting. If anything smells hot, looks scorched or feels warm, switch the circuit off at the consumer unit and book as urgent.
Book Your Wiring Repair Today
Wiring faults do not fix themselves, and they rarely stay as small as they start. Call or book online and we will send a qualified electrician to find the fault, quote the repair fairly, and leave your electrics tested, tidy and working.
How the price works
We charge a booking fee to hold your slot, then an hourly rate for the work itself. The fee changes with how soon you need us; the hourly rate changes with the slot you choose. You approve the price before we start, so there is no surprise on the invoice.

We diagnose on site
The engineer confirms the cause and tells you what the job involves and how long it should take.
You approve, we work
Nothing goes ahead until you agree the price. Labour is then charged per hour at your slot rate.
Most wiring faults are less dramatic than they feel in the moment: a socket that has stopped, a light that flickers, a connection that has worked loose after years of faithful service. Our wiring repair visits exist for exactly this — one booking, an engineer who tests before touching, and a proper repair rather than a bodge. You approve the price before we start, and the circuit is proven working before we leave.
What our customers say about our electrical service
4.6 out of 5 from 11 reviews
Does what it says on the tin
No complaints about the work itself — clear explanation, sensible advice, fair price. Booking online was easy enough once I found the right job page.
Job: Smoke Alarm Replacement
Fixed it, but took longer than expected
Work itself was fine and tidy. Communication beforehand was patchy — I did not get the confirmation message and had to ring to check the slot. Would still use again.
Job: Flickering Outdoor Lights
Turned up when they said
Third time we have used Maintenance Men, and the same experience each time: agreed price, proper explanation, job done in one visit. The hourly rate is fair for the standard of work.
Job: Appliance Causing Power Trip

Questions people ask about wiring repair service
Straight answers to the things customers ask most often before booking.
What does a wiring repair visit cost?
You pay a booking fee when you book and the labour is charged hourly at a rate that depends on how quickly you need us. The engineer quotes the repair in full before starting it, so you approve the complete cost before any work is done.
Can I fix a faulty socket myself?
Changing a socket faceplate is within many people's reach, but diagnosing why it failed is different — the fault often sits upstream of the fitting you can see, and working on conductors requires the circuit proven dead. If a new socket does not solve it, the original problem is still there waiting, now with new parts in the way.
What will the engineer do during the visit?
Listen to your description, isolate the circuit, and test rather than guess — checking connections at the fittings involved and measuring along the circuit where needed. Once the fault is located you get the explanation and a fixed quote, and the repair usually happens in the same visit.
Is a small wiring fault worth a call-out?
Usually yes, because small faults are cheap today and expensive later. A loose connection that drops a socket occasionally is heating up every time it loads; a breaker that trips monthly is hinting at something that trips permanently eventually. The hourly rate makes early repairs the economical choice, not the indulgent one.
Do you carry parts, or will I need a second visit?
Engineers carry the common repair stock — connectors, sockets, switches, standard cable and fittings — so most repairs complete in the first visit. If something unusual is needed, we tell you before ordering, quote the return visit the same way, and make the fault safe in the meantime.
