What a leaking enclosure actually means

A shower enclosure has one job: keeping water inside the cubicle. When it fails, water tracks down the outside of the glass, pools at the base or seeps through the joint between the frame and the tiles. A proper leaking shower enclosure fix starts by identifying which of those escape routes is at fault, because they are repaired in different ways.

The usual causes

The most common is worn or perished door seals — the magnetic or brush strips along the door edges simply wear out. Next comes failed silicone where the frame meets the tiles or tray; once that bead cracks, water follows it straight out. Doors that have dropped on their hinges leave gaps at the bottom or side. Occasionally the problem is a misaligned or wrongly sized enclosure that was never sealed correctly in the first place.

Why you should not ignore it

Water on the bathroom floor is a slip hazard today and a structural problem tomorrow. Every shower pushes water into the frame-to-tile joint, where it sits against plaster and timber. Frames corrode, grout breaks down, and damp spreads into walls. Fixing a leaking shower enclosure early is one of the cheapest bathroom leak repair jobs there is; leaving it is not.

How we diagnose it

We examine each part of the enclosure in turn: door seals, hinges and alignment, the frame-to-wall joints, and the joint between the enclosure base and the tray. Then we test it — running the shower while watching where water escapes, and noting the exact spot the first drip appears. That tells us whether you need a shower sealing repair to the joints, replacement door seals, or adjustment of the doors themselves. It also rules out problems that mimic enclosure leaks, such as a wet room floor gully backing up or a leak above the ceiling, so you are not paying to fix something that was never the fault.

How we fix it

Worn door seals are replaced with the correct profile for your enclosure. Failed silicone is cut out completely — not patched over — and reapplied with a mould-resistant, waterproof sealant. Dropping doors are realigned at the hinges so they close squarely and seal properly. Where a seal profile is no longer manufactured, we will show you the closest matching alternative and explain how it performs before fitting it. We finish by testing the shower with you watching, confirming the water stays where it should.

Prevention tips

Wipe the door glass and seals after showering so water does not sit in the seal channels. Check the silicone lines occasionally; if they discolour, crack or pull away, have them refreshed before water finds the gap. Avoid leaning on the doors or using them as a handhold, which is what slowly pulls enclosures out of alignment. If your bathroom is used by several people each morning, a quick weekly wipe of the seals takes seconds and noticeably extends their life.

When to call a plumber

Call when you first notice water outside the cubicle, a door that no longer closes flush, or sealant pulling away from the tiles.

Questions people ask about leaking shower enclosure repair

Straight answers to the things customers ask most often before booking.

Why does my shower door leak even though it looks closed?

The door can appear closed while leaving hairline gaps because the seals have compressed or the door has dropped on its hinges. Water then follows the gap out of the cubicle. We check alignment and seal condition as the first step of the visit.

Can you replace shower door seals, or do I need a new enclosure?

In most cases seals can be replaced without replacing the enclosure. We match the seal profile to your door type where possible. A full enclosure replacement is only needed if the frame or glass is damaged.

How is the work priced?

You pay a booking fee when you book, and labour is charged hourly at a rate that depends on how quickly you need us. The full cost of the work is quoted before we start, so you approve it before any tools come out.

Is silicone resealing enough to stop the leak?

If the leak is coming through the frame-to-tile or frame-to-tray joint, removing the old silicone and applying a fresh waterproof bead usually resolves it. If water is escaping elsewhere — through door seals or under the tray — resealing alone will not fix it, which is why we test before and after.

Will the resealing look messy?

No. We remove all the old sealant, clean the joint, and apply a neat, even bead of mould-resistant sealant. Done properly, a resealed enclosure looks as good as the day it was installed.
