A careful assessment helps identify a practical rail solution without guessing at the strength of the wall or the needs of the person using it.
Understanding what feels wrong
Tell us when the current position causes difficulty: reaching from a doorway, turning near a WC, getting into a bath, standing from a seat or moving along a passage. We can consider approach direction, hand reach, clearance, door swing and nearby fittings. A rail that is convenient for one movement may interfere with another, so we discuss the route rather than moving it by a guessed measurement. We do not specify a universal height or angle, and do not assess medical needs. If an occupational therapist has recommended a change, share the recommendation and any measurements.
Checking a possible new point
Before relocation, we assess the proposed wall area and the fixings needed for the intended load. Tiles, hollow partitions, damaged plaster, weak masonry and concealed plumbing or wiring can affect where a rail may go. We may identify a sounder position nearby, but only if it remains workable for the user's approach and does not block access. If no safe point is available, suitable backing or other building work may be needed. We will explain the limitation rather than move the rail to an unsafe location simply because it appears closer.
Existing holes and finish
Removing a rail may leave holes, cracked tile or damaged plaster. The condition of the wall can also reveal why the earlier position was chosen or why the fixings failed. We include only the agreed work in the quote; making good, redecorating or replacing tiles may be separate work. Tell us if the rail is loose as well as awkwardly placed, because it should not be used until its fixing has been checked. Photos can help us understand the setting but cannot show hidden wall construction or confirm a new point is suitable.
A practical positioning review
A rail can be soundly fixed yet still be awkward to reach, in the way or poorly matched to the route through a room. We listen to what feels difficult and observe the available space, the direction of approach, likely hand positions, doors, taps, screens, furniture and other fittings. We can discuss practical reach and clearance, but we do not prescribe a height, angle or location as a clinical standard. There is no single position that suits every person, room or transfer. If the user has occupational therapy advice, measurements or a preferred way of moving, share those with us; an occupational therapist's advice is the user's resource.
Wall and service checks
Before any new fixing, we assess the wall behind the proposed point and the fixings needed for the intended load. Plasterboard, hollow walls, weak or cracked masonry, loose tiles and concealed services can rule out an otherwise convenient position. The fixing is only as strong as the wall behind it. We may suggest a nearby position with a more suitable substrate, but only if it remains practical for the user and does not create a new obstruction. We do not claim a clinical or anti-ligature specification, and a visual assessment cannot reveal every hidden defect.
Agreeing the work
We talk through feasible alternatives, the rail type and the work involved. If no safe fixing can be made at the requested spot, we will explain why and will not fit it there merely to match a preferred measurement. Extra backing, tile work or alterations may require separate work and a further quote. The full cost is quoted and approved before work starts, with parts quoted separately. The booking fee is paid when booking; hourly labour varies with how soon the visit is needed. We check the agreed installation and leave the decision about personal or clinical suitability to the user and their advisers.
Before booking and after fitting
Tell us which movement or part of the route is difficult, the room layout, the preferred rail style and any advice or measurements you already have. Photos help us understand the setting but cannot show hidden services or the wall's strength. Clear the work area and point out previous repairs. After fitting, stop using the rail and contact us if it moves, cracks or feels unstable. A repositioning visit is not a substitute for clinical assessment; discuss individual support needs with the occupational therapist or other adviser involved.
How the price works
We charge a booking fee to hold your slot, then an hourly rate for the work itself. The fee changes with how soon you need us; the hourly rate changes with the slot you choose. You approve the price before we start, so there is no surprise on the invoice.

We diagnose on site
The engineer confirms the cause and tells you what the job involves and how long it should take.
You approve, we work
Nothing goes ahead until you agree the price. Labour is then charged per hour at your slot rate.
A rail may be firmly attached yet still feel too far away, obstructive or awkward in use. We review the room and available fixing points, while leaving clinical positioning advice to the occupational therapist involved.
What our customers say about our mobility & accessibility service
4.5 out of 5 from 8 reviews
Proper job, no upselling
Turned up in the window they promised, walked me through the options (turns out the old fitting was seized and needed careful removal), then cracked on. Everything was tested before they left. No mess, no drama, no surprise on the bill.
Job: Loose or Faulty Brakes
Fine in the end
The problem is fixed, which is the main thing, and the engineer clearly knew what they were doing. It took a fair bit longer than the estimate on the phone and I had to ask twice for a breakdown of the hours.
Job: Stair Lift Service
Would use again
What I appreciated was being told what was actually wrong before anyone started. Sorted in under 70 minutes and the invoice matched the quote to the penny.
Job: Control Panel Fault

Questions people ask about incorrect grab rail positioning
Straight answers to the things customers ask most often before booking.
Can you tell me the correct height for a grab rail?
There is no single height we prescribe for everyone. We can assess practical reach and the building, but individual clinical positioning should be discussed with an occupational therapist.
What do you assess before moving a rail?
We review the current issue, room layout, route, clearances, wall substrate and fixing options at a proposed new point. We explain the scope and quote before work.
Will you move it if the new point is weak?
No. The fixing is only as strong as the wall behind it, so we will explain safer alternatives or further work if the requested location cannot take the intended load.
Can the old holes be filled as part of the move?
We can discuss making good, but the condition and finish required affect scope. Tile replacement or extensive decorating may need separate work and a separate quote.
How is the price worked out?
A booking fee is paid when booking. The hourly labour rate depends on how soon you need the visit; the full cost is quoted and approved before work starts, with parts quoted separately.
