Why fixtures end up in the wrong place
It happens to everyone. A mirror went up in a hurry and turned out to sit badly against the light. A shelf was fitted before the furniture arrived and now clashes with a wardrobe. A towel rail, a hook rail or a TV bracket was positioned for someone else's idea of the room. Whatever the reason, the answer is rarely to leave it — most fixtures move cleanly, provided the move is done with the same care as the original fitting.
Assessing the new position before we drill
Moving a fixture is not just relocating the holes; it is fitting it for the first time in a place that may behave differently. So we assess the new wall properly: what it is made of, whether there is sound ground where the fixing points fall, and where pipes and cables are likely to run — a position that looks fine on the surface can sit square over a soil pipe or a cable run, and we never drill blindly. If the new position cannot take a safe fixing, we will say so and talk through alternatives rather than force the job.
Taking it down and making good
Removal comes first. The fixture comes off carefully, with anything heavy — a large mirror, a loaded shelf — supported properly so it does not drop. The old fixing points are then made good: filled, and sanded flush once cured, so the wall is ready for paint. We are honest about decoration: filling is our work, but a perfect colour match to existing paint is not something we can promise, and a full repaint is a separate decorating decision.
Refitting in the new position
Then the fixture goes back up where you want it. New fixings are chosen for the new wall and the load — a move of a metre can cross from masonry to plasterboard, which changes the plugs entirely. We check level, test the fixing under load, and hand it back to you confirmed sound. One boundary worth stating: if the fixture is connected to anything — a heated towel rail with plumbing connections, for example — we handle the mounting and making good, but connected services are a matter for the appropriate trade, and we will say so rather than improvise.
What to have ready
Decide the new position before we arrive, or be there to agree it with us on the day — a tape-measure conversation at the wall beats a guess. Have the fixture's own fixings and hardware available, since some items are refixed with their original bolts. Clear access to both the old and the new position, because the job happens in two places at once.
Aftercare
Let any filler cure before painting or hanging anything heavy in the old position. Give the fixture a gentle check after its first week in the new spot — it should be as sound as the day we fitted it, and if it is not, call us. If you are moving a fixture because you are redecorating, sequence the work: repair, decorate, then refit into cured surfaces.
When to call
If the fixture is small and the move is short, it is a quick visit; heavier items or trickier walls take longer, and we will scope it before we start. Same-day slots may be available if you call early in the day. To book, get in touch: the booking fee is paid on booking, the hourly labour rate depends on how soon you need us, and we agree the full cost with you before any work begins — any replacement fixings or hardware are quoted separately.
How the price works
We charge a booking fee to hold your slot, then an hourly rate for the work itself. The fee changes with how soon you need us; the hourly rate changes with the slot you choose. You approve the price before we start, so there is no surprise on the invoice.

We diagnose on site
The engineer confirms the cause and tells you what the job involves and how long it should take.
You approve, we work
Nothing goes ahead until you agree the price. Labour is then charged per hour at your slot rate.
Living with a fixture in the wrong place is a quiet daily irritation: the towel rail you reach past, the mirror that catches the wrong light, the shelf that blocks a cupboard door. Moving it is not just drilling new holes — it means assessing the new position and making the old one good. We handle the whole move, from first mark on the wall to the last filled hole.

Questions people ask about reposition wall fixtures
Straight answers to the things customers ask most often before booking.
Should I attempt to move a wall fixture myself?
Light items with simple hooks are a reasonable DIY move. Fixtures with real weight, or moves that cross from one wall type to another, are where DIY goes wrong — new holes drilled over hidden pipes, or fixings chosen for the wrong wall. If the item is heavy, valuable or the wall is unknown, having it assessed first is the safer route.
What do you check before moving the fixture?
We inspect the new position for wall construction, sound fixing ground and likely hidden pipes and cables before any drilling. We also check the fixture and its hardware are fit to be refitted, and that the old position can be made good cleanly. Nothing is drilled until the plan is agreed with you.
Can every fixture be moved anywhere I like?
No, and we will not pretend otherwise. Some positions offer no safe fixing — hollow plasterboard with nothing behind, or a spot square over hidden services. In those cases we explain the problem and suggest a workable alternative position or approach, rather than fitting something we would not trust.
What happens to the holes where the fixture used to be?
We fill the old fixing points and sand them flush so the wall is ready for decoration. The fill needs curing time before painting, and while we make good the surface we cannot guarantee a perfect match to existing paint — a fresh coat over the area is the usual way to make it invisible.
What will the visit cost me?
You pay a booking fee when you book, and the hourly labour rate depends on how soon you need the visit — booking further ahead generally costs less. The full cost of the move, including making good, is quoted before work starts and you approve it. Any new fixings or hardware needed are identified and quoted separately.
